Thank you a video without me having to skip through 15 minutes of shit I already knew about the helmet and then 5 more minutes of product and brand plugs that have nothing to do with helmet set up lol Your video was short and right to the point for exactly what I needed to know and again I thank you for that sir!
I really do wish a company just had the ARC rail mounts with wire extensions to bend around the MICH cut. I feel like just doing some DIY wire bends to mount around the lower sides would be fairly easy to do too.
Was thinking the same thing. I had to get the team wendy straps and pads to make it work. Still requires a little adjustment but the team wendy pads and straps totally changed the way the ach sits and feels for the better, highly recommended. I got the sordins with just the thin head strap that have the tension band around the back of the neck, those feel the best with my ach.
I've run Walkers Razor electronic ear pro through mine for a while now as a budget option, and they work fine. I ended up going up a helmet size from LG to XL to be able to accommodate the headband and some thicker padding. I'm running a PVS14 bridged with a 3d printed articulating bridge mount I made for a handheld thermal monocular. I have a counterweight in the back, which is basically just an external battery pack for my 4-8x ATN thermal rifle scope, and a couple of extra CR123s for my PVS14 in a pouch.

It would probably take a little work, but I'd imagine it would work. Honestly, I'd upgrade to the pads and 4 point chin strap as it's pretty cheap to do so now. Also, this was done with the older sordins, but they do make the Behind the Neck style that have a fabric strap going over the head that makes them work very well with older style helmets.
I'm saving up for my first FAST helmet, but i have a separate headset at hand, would it fit if I don it this way as well? Or should I go get a rail adapter instead?
I've grown to only really use the rail adapter. You can generally get headsets to fit under with some effort; but it's a lot more comfortable on the rails and can even help stabilize the helmet so it doesn't move around as much.
I've been using Impact Sports under my ACH without a center pad or side pads. Just configure it right and you're gtg, only issue I have is that it squishes my head a bit. Maybe see if you can size up the helmet or get some behind the neck earpro. Im looking to get some MSA Sordins that are behind the neck for that reason but my buddy has a helmet that fits him a bit large, so hes happy when he uses my earpro.
I wired and paracorded my sordins to the inside of my ACH. I have an opscore occdial suspension system so I can just crank and tighten it down. The headband kept giving me headaches even though I removed padding.
Pretty much most of them will with enough work. I still think the rails are the way to go. I'd go Howard Leight for a budget and Comtacs for higher end (III or V)
The arc rails came with the helmet when I bought it from one of my buddies. It's ballistic, but it's the older kevlar designs. The weight always caught up with my neck and it's quite the headache machine.
@TheGoodSirKnight I got one off of ebay but they weren't sure of it would fit a lg to xl helmet but it was cheap enough for me to not care if it doesn't work out.
my helmet has fast rails, im thinking of custom bending some wire so i can direct mount my headset and still have full ear coverage, either that or im gonna 3d print an internal mount that uses the strap mounting bolts. still not sure which headset i should start with
I believe you need to loose the straps of the helmet to the max, isnt it? because my headband doesn´t allow the helmet to sit on my head properly. Thanks in advance!
Loosening the straps would certainly help; although more and more people are starting to use the behind the neck straps or simply mounting comms direct into the helmet rails. I've been running AMP headsets on my Maritime and that has been a significant improvement over the older way I used to do it.
The overhead I was using would have the weight of the helmet press down and would get a little uncomfortable after a while. They also make a behind the head version that's designed to be work under a helmet that I've heard is far more comfortable with this set up.
I have and will always go with full cut. the weight savings on high cuts are meaningless. want to be 100% CONFY? stay home. I find the headset tl give me extra cushion too. I can take my helmet off and leave the comms on wearing a hat or a shemag which has been my best friend for years. I will never trade safety for confort neverrrr
The Good Sir Knight lol I'm a fan of few to the chest, face gets the rest. Even have a couple of dakis. Btw, what kind of cover is that? I've got a bare bones mich 2000 that I'm bringing up to par. Came with absolutely nothing, not even screws or pads, but i got it on the cheap.
TheMikemg2 yep, I've got that patch as well. Haha. And that's awesome. It's a good helmet all around, although I'm looking at slowly but surely making my way up to the ops core Maritime once my wallet had a pulse again. The helmet cover is a tru-spec I was fortunate enough to find out the 2 days it was in stock on Amazon. It was great for OD before I moved over to my ranger green set. Also, ops core padding can fit really well in a Mich, and I've seen people out in the whole occ dial system. Makes it a lot more comfortable to run comms under. Best of luck finding all those parts you'll need. Happy hunting. Man, I wanna get a daki but I'm pretty sure the wife would leave me. Lol
