it's hard to hear a lot of the rattle and noises because of the case on my cellphone. the noises are much louder then it shows in the clips.
this is the latest update on the bike.
BASICALLY, I took it in to have it looked at. the service department did NOTHING.
so, here I am,, nothing has changed, still don't know what's wrong with the bike( if anything).

I always worried about any "abnormal" engine noise on everyone of my bikes. After checking every possible motorcycle forum there is, I've found one invaluable piece of advice. "Buy earplugs and don't worry too much" Worked wonders for me! Several bikes later, still happy I listened. Good luck!

My 2018 GSXS-750 has that noise when warm/hot. It started shortly after the break in miles were done. The guys at the local engine build shop used an electronic stethoscope and pinpointed the noise within a few mm’s of the area where the cam chain tensioner meets the block. They checked the oil filter for abnormal amounts of metal and found nothing - clean as a whistle. It still makes the noise and the bike still runs perfect…but I know how you feel, I was pretty worried too when it first started. I was afraid to take it over 4K RPM before it got all checked out. I’m sure yours will be fine too- you’re a good rider- you know your bike and you pay attention to it…. and that’s awesome

I have to say, I couldn’t really hear anything that sounded out of the ordinary. I know iPhone mics don’t pick up everything well, but from this audio it sounded like a normal idle Japanese engine. You would hate my 2023 triumph tiger 1200. Tippity Tappety valve train you can’t ignore. Good luck and enjoy your awesome motorcycle!

Hi there, my dad and I both have 2022 GSXS 1000's and both make the same noise on hot starts. When I first heard I thought "what the hell". It's just the cam chain tensioner, don't worry about it. My dad has about 7,500 klm on his and mine has 6,500, including 3 track days on mine, with no problems, and the noise doesn't get worse. I once had a Yamaha FJ1200 which used to make the same noise, I used to go and red line it which then seated the automatic chain tensioner, then the noise would disappear for a while. As @Eddie78957 said, go listen to a BMW, my mate had a S1000R then a 1000XR, if our Suzuki's sounded as bad as those I would be worried. Happy and safe riding mate.

listening to this sounds exactly like mine - nothing to worry about just enjoy it - winter riding the little gem will make many more noises ear plugs and get the music going. louder exhaust will cover over the noise. it's a K5 derived engine nearly 20 year old design its good gsx- r1000 k5 was much noisier rattles and ticks and knocks but was fine.

This motor sounds like a sewing machine to me. I work with a lot of bikes. If you think this is a problem you should have a listen at Yamaha Motors especially the Mt09. Most of the time it's the clutch components loosening up or some valve tick in the head. Some even noisy injectors. You have absolutely nothing to worry about. You have to understand that in a car you have noise insulation. On a bike the motor is exposed and thus all the normal noise and vibrations will be audible. Worry not brother. This motor sounds perfectly healthy.

Its the hydraulic cam chain tensioner. It is simply not getting enough oil pressure to keep proper tension on the cam chain guide. That or its simply wearing out very prematurely. Im a japanese motorcycle mechanic for 38 years and have seen it all with cam chain tensioners. My 2002 ZRX 1200 kawasaki started the cam chain rattle at about every 10,000 miles and after the second cam chain tensioner, I converted to a manually adjustable tensioner. Hopefully someone will come out with a manual tensioner for the GSX-S 1000 GT. I really want to buy a GSX-S 1000 GT but until someone comes up with a solution, im holding off on that purchase. Im sure some savvy owner of one is already working on a solution as we speak. Sorry to write a novel on this but motorcycle engines quickly create very dirty oil by virtue of sharing the engine oil with a transmission and clutch. Hydraulic tensioners can very quickly have their oil passages blocked or compromised by contaminates. Suzuki needs to issue a recall on this engine and resolve the issue. Hope this helps.

I'm an experienced Suzuki tech. Firstly, getting in MANY dealership service departments has become very tough, EVERYWHERE, (my local Suzuki shop up in NY currently has a 90-day back-log.. and they're good). Secondly, it is true that some dealership techs are better than others, can't vouch form yours. I would ask to contact the regional Suzuki Service manager. 3) Can't really hear your issue in this video, but I've been servicing GSXR motors since 1987 when they first came out, and GSXR motors have ALWAYS been a bit rattly, especially the clutch baskets. The earlier ones were really noisy. Buy a cheap mechanic's stethoscope and try to pinpoint the noise on the engine.

First let me say Thanks. second i live in Tenn. the dealer is in Atlanta(Roswell), there are NO Suzuki service/dealers around this area. third the noise is a lot quieter now that I have 20w-50 oil in it. before I was using the 10w-40 mineral oil Suzuki recommends. the bike/engine rattle was extra loud.( might be normal engine noise). I took the bike in to the service department in Nov. the head tech told me that if possible do NOT ride the bike until it could be looked at. even he said the noise needed to be checked out. but that was when i had the 10w-40 oil in it. I told him I was concerned because i rode it to the tail of the dragon( in Oct), about 3 and a half hours away. and when i got there the bike started making a grinding noise when decelerating. the more I rode it the worse it got. when i got to the store at the top of the dragon I stopped and rested for about 15 to 20 minutes. it did not make that noise again. I haven't taken a long trip like that since. I changed the oil to 20w-50 in Dec. the rattling noise got quieter. it's still there just not as loud.( plus the muffled sound from the cell phone recording) my microphone cord for my camera broke. this time i took the bike back to the service department and all they did was start it and let it run until the fan kicked on. they rode it around the parking lot a few times. they NEVER checked why the bike was rattling and knocking.

@@redhytechDoes Suzuki recommend 20w50 for this bike? From what I’ve heard on videos it sure sounds like a cam chain tensioner issue. The old engines did rattle a bit , like all Japanese bikes, but this was in the primary drive. The old GSXR engines used a simple mechanical cam chain tensioner, they worked well. The new engines are using a hydraulic cam chain tensioner, maybe Suzuki need to go back to a mechanical tensioner, something they perfected many years ago!

Hi. I have the same bike and mine developed the same knocking / rattle after 1500 miles. I noticed it after a 200 mile run. Left it and on cold start up it was fine. There's quite a bit of discussion about it recently. Some folk done well over 20000 miles and living with the noise and with no other issues. I'm not overly worried and think it's typical Suzuki engine noise that you have to get used to. It's a gsx1000r engine from 2005 so pretty established. Let me know how you get on further down the line

My rattle is a little louder than yours. Mostly hear it when its cold. Otherwise it doesn’t bother me at all. I have heard other rattles much worse than mine on the same bike. Mine is a 22’. Good luck with your issue.

Personally I can’t hear anything wrong. $100 charge is standard. You’re paying for their time. When did you change the oil? First change should have been at 600 miles or 1000km. Warranty likely void if missed. I would just ride the thing. Flush the oil sooner rather than later. Check for metal etc then enjoy it. Chasing problems just brings more problems. Once they open the engine anything is possible. If they say it’s fine and it’s not then hold them to their word. Technically it’s still under warranty, now is the time to find out if it’ll blow up!
@redhytech

the bike has 4400 miles and in December was the 4th oil change. I changed it just before the 600 miles and several times after. the oil change in december I had about 2 or 3 hundred miles on a fresh oil change, i wanted to try the 20w-50 oil to see if it helped... it did quiet the rattling and knocking down a lot.

Have you never heard a BMW GS LC? As if a handful of marbles had been thrown in the engine. Terrible 😒 . Your GT is completely silent in comparison.
@-robster-robster-
@-robster-robster- 2 месяца назад
Thats normal to this engine . Could probably do with an after run in valve shim adjustment and an after market mechanical tensioner to quiet it for 15k periods. But its too much hassle and they want you to live with the noise. A decat and map will drown out the mechanical noises with a lovely burble

1-16-24... I got a call from the dealer today. after a lengthy conversation, he said he would see about getting me back in to have the bike checked out properly. he is trying to find out about the warranty. I took the bike in back in Nov( still under warranty) and they could not look at it. I took it back in last week end and they didn't look at it(still under warranty). in 2 weeks the warranty runs out. I think they were trying to let the warranty expire so that if there was anything wrong I would have to PAY for repairs.
@aluisious
@aluisious 5 месяцев назад
Nah, you brought the bike to them with the same issue and they didn't do shit, you have that in writing. If the engine blows up for the same reason later pay a lawyer a couple hundred bucks to write a threatening letter. And honestly...doesn't sound that bad. I had my Multi engine chew the con rod bearing into confetti. That sounded bad, clack clack clack.
