GT Gohan Deserves Respect ! 

I think the reason why Gohan doesn't seem to use his Ultimate form is because GT is right after Z. Originally in Z the Ultimate form, wasn't treated like a form in the first place. It was just Gohan's potential brought to the surface without the need for transforming. It isn't until the newer stuff when the Ultimate form was treated like a transformation for Gohan.

When GT Gohan saw Vegeta and Goku reach SSJ4, GT Gohan expressed a desire to transform like they did.

Gohan being a nerd and a fighter is really is all people really wanted. For him to learn great power comes with great responsibility, especially having a child himself you'd think he'd understand why his dad was willing to die for him in the Cell games. The theme here is responsibility, because Gohan failed to kill Cell and he also gained great power but failed to beat Buu because he was cocky. GT Gohan feels like him after realizing his mistakes. Personality wise. Sure he doesnt like to fight the way Goku does, but he will step up because he has to. This video convinced me.

I actually liked GT Gohan, he found his balance, and made the best out of his life, I’m just a little disappointed he was not used that much. It would have helped if GT gave us more on him as a parent, maybe even training with Pan, and Videl. That, and making it so Goten didn’t look just like Gohan in a different outfit, with a slightly different hairstyle.

I didnt even notice that. Gohan in GT actually did develop off Z Gohan because he doesnt hesitate to want to actually take responsibility to protect the Earth and volunteers a lot to go with them in confidence. Super Gohan just gets wear than he was even before the Buu Saga, like in ROF he just loses his Gi, to Superhero he just gets so weak he cant even lift the weighted clothing anymore. GT Gohan just has glasses.

What we need is for the writers to put this much effort into Goten

One thing about GT Gohan that you gotta respect is that fact that when shit needs to be handled, he was still to help handle things. He didn't wait for someone to tell him to step up, he willingly stepped up ready to go at it.

GT Gohan is the Gohan that Gohan wanted to be.

Gt actually did right by most of the characters. It was the stories themselves that were lackluster since everyone was basically sidelined with nothing to do.

People need to understand that DBGT was a send off for DB series. There was no intention on going further. So therefore, they’re not going to give everyone and their momma much screen time. They brought it back whom it was originally all about and that’s Goku. GT continued from how things were when Z ended. The Goku and Vegeta rivalry was over. Vegeta became more human-like or down to earth, wearing human clothes etc. Gohan goes back into his books but instead, keeping up with training this time. There was 15 years of peace after Buu till the beginning of GT. That’s more double the amount of peace they had between cell and Buu. GT made sense with the atmosphere after the ending of Z. It was to conclude the series by making Dragon balls more of a focus, the consequences of Dragon balls. Giving piccolo a notable and noble sacrifice. Bringing tails back and Oozaru. Taking us into the ultimate saiyan transformation, SS4 and the legendary Golden Oozaru. The tuffles seen in DBZ in the old days killed by Saiyans (Bebi). Ending off with Evil shadows Shenron dragons being killed and Goku becoming a real angelic god and one with the Original Shenron. And send us off with descendants of Goku and Vegeta. What more could you ask for in only 64 episodes? GT did it GREAT. Super is moreso about continuing for money. This is why they gave everyone their own transformations which makes no sense. It’s all about selling toys and merchandise. If it was not for DB evolution, Toriyama would not have considered continuing DB.

GT Gohan was amazing, but it's such a shame he doesn't have as much screen time as he used to in Z.

Gohan in GT is a better representation of his character that his Super version wasn't able to be until the "Super Hero Movie." He was able to achieve his dream of being a scholar but still kept up his training in case a threat arrives. It's just a shame that they never gave him much focus throughout that show.

I saw your video on GT Vegeta yesterday and even though lots of people hate on GT I got it years ago and watched it and didnt think it was so bad. The character progressions do feel more natural in GT and nothing feels off.

GT is so weird to me cause it has a lot of problems, some really bad but I just can't hate it. the Good is so good it makes up for the bad most of the time. The characters in GT were always the best part to me

The thing is Gohan always volunteered for action back in Z, he wanted to go to Namek and save everybody, he wanted to train for the Androids even though he wasn't even needed, he wanted to go with Goku to the Time Chamber, he wanted to save Piccolo from First Form Cell, ever since the fight against Vegeta he was willing to fight and desired the adventure as much as he desired to become a scholar, this notion that people have that Gohan hated fighting and just wanted to study and be left alone is completely false and based around the bad writing of the Cell games, when Gohan is turned into a pacifist for no reason (when he previously had no problem murdering Frieza goons just for the possibility of them being dangerous, not the green bug man who nearly killed Piccolo), it was all just to create artificial drama for his SSJ2 transformation and the fandom took that and assumed Gohan was ALWAYS like that, which is not the case at all, GT Gohan is more true to the real Gohan than what he was in the Cell Games.

Up until super came out, I always looked at his Ultimate form as his new base form and just didn't feel the need to transform, and that ssj would just amplify it.

If I remember correctly, an interview with one of the heads or writers of GT revealed that Gohan was meant to have a character arc I think during the Super 17 Arc in which he goes to retrieve his dôgi and, over the course of the battle with Super 17, his Ultimate form, which the interview also confirmed did not appear in GT. This story was sadly scrapped on the grounds that the series' focus was more on Goku and, by extension, Vegeta, rather than Gohan and, by extension, Piccolo. Later in the series, during the Evil Dragons Arc, Oob suggests someone undergo fusion with him. In the English dub, Gohan tells Oob it's not that simple. In the original Japanese, however, he tells Oob he needs his arm healed first, suggesting he may have intended to try fusion with Oob, who had already fused with Boo, rivaling Baby's strongest form (until Golden Ôzaru). Perhaps there's some chance this was left over from the scrapped plot that gave Gohan back his Ultimate form, as SS and SS2 certainly wouldn't put him on Oob's level.

I'm half way through the vid and I have to say GT Gohan could have pleased so many fans moving forward. After all GT was made BY A FAN of the franchise and this love for the characters shows. They feel overall less stupid or more grounded and lacked only the graphical beauty of the Buu arc designs. I could come with a fan fiction where we see him achieve the balance between the study and training to reach that goal.. taking study vacation time by going in the hyperbolic time chamber, this allowing to at least stay in current form but also to perfect some fighting techniques or strats. He's at least know to be a dedicated worker when his mindset is on something important or cherished.

completely agree gt gohan is the perfect evolution of the character. a perfect ballence between warrior and scholar, I love gt gohan. Also the reason why he doesn't use ultimate in gt is because the gt writers possibly saw his ultimate form is likely apart of his base form as ultimate wasn't explained to be a transformation until dragon ball super im pretty sure. Or you can go off daizenshuu 2 which states he can stack super saiyan on top of it. so he could of been using it and we just didn't know. either way ultimate exists within gt to some extent.

The thing about Gohan keeping up with his training bugs me a bit because if that's true you'd think he'd just be beating everyone with ease in GT. But I liked GT Gohan regardless.

Yeah, Gohan isn't the type of person to hold back in the deadliest of battles; he would've used his Ultimate form if he still had it, but he was using Super Saiyan. It's not like the databooks/guidebooks should be taken as gospel, since they are just supplementary sources (and especially when there's info that contradicts the actual series), so it's possible Gohan actually did neglect his training somewhat, but not as much as Trunks and Goten. But that probably wouldn't be enough negligence of his training to lose access to his Ultimate form. It's weird how Gohan's Ultimate form was a permanent change in the original manga and the _Dragon Ball Z_ TV series, but it's a temporary change (a switch-on-and-off state) like Super Saiyan in _Dragon Ball Z_ movie 13 and the _Dragon Ball Super_ series, and it's outright non-existent in _GT_ (possibly to make Goku look the best). Ultimately, Gohan turning Super Saiyan in _GT_ was probably a careless oversight by the _GT_ staff.

A common misconception is that ultimate Gohan is a transformation when I’m reality it’s not

GT Gohan may be a better character but the series is no less poorly written. You mentioned it yourself, he never stopped training yet he never transforms. He's practically completely useless in the Super 17 and Shadow Dragons arcs even though he could body most of them by himself. They deliberately nerfed him so that Goku can keep being Superman. Super at least kept him more involved, though yes, it came at the cost of a good character.

Since Super should be before GT chronologically, even if they re different continuities, I'm hoping the character awkwardness compared to their GT counterparts are simply a sign of a transitional phase before showing what they'd become in a hypothetical GT future year.

Gt Gohan was more reliable

Man imagine GT having this father son adventure. Picture this, Beast Gohan and Super Saiyn 4 Goku taking Omega Shenron! Or better imagine if Goku, Gohan, and Goten team up with Trunks and Vegeta and then as an added boost, Pan and Bulla join to help Omega Shenron getting a family beat down.

The GT writers just abandoned the Ultimate Gohan thing so Goku could be the hero. And don't put much thought into whether Gohan was in base or SSJ during his fights. You say Gohan didn't need SSJ against Rildo, but Goku eventually did. And base Goku slapped SSJ Gohan-Baby around.

And deserves mor in general.

"Kept up with his training" I mean... Tell that to anyone who think Gohan should be the god of the Z fighters and him getting his ass kicked by Omega Shenron and General Rildo. I hardly think he really "kept up" with his training. At most, he just stopped himself from getting weaker. But he still doesn't do what later DBS Gohan does, bar the Super Hero movie. Gohan is just cursed to forever never find that balance between his life and fighting.

I resent the hate GT gets. At the very least they were more consistent with the characters than super. Or at the very least, they tried to make the best possible versions of the characters while super tended to exaggerate some of their personality traits to make them more “human.” For example, Gohan not keeping up with his training in super, or making goku so stupid that at times in super he could be mistaken for a literal child in a man’s body in super, despite goku never actually having been a truly stupid person before. It’s like super tried to deconstruct the characters but failed while GT made them actually progress in a realistic but satisfying way. For once, I loved seeing gohan feel like a leader, confident but not over-cocky, wise beyond his years, and not having to rely on his anger in order to be strong. It felt like the way gohan should be and the scene where piccolo dies only builds on piccolo’s original sacrifice for gohan, instead of how in super piccolo’s sacrifice for gohan feels like cheap pandering. I feel like it makes sense that gohan wouldn’t slack off with his training but this time, it’s goten who slacks off with his training. I’m not saying GT is great and super isn’t, I’m just saying that GT handled the characters themselves in a way that super could only dream of. Besides that, GT is a train wreck. The baby saga was one of the best sagas in all of dragon ball but the entire black star dragon ball saga that built up to the baby saga, was THE worst saga in all of dragon ball. It makes the buu saga look like Shakespeare. Super 17 saga would literally ruin an entire series of it wasn’t a dragon ball series, that’s how bad it is. Shadow dragon saga has some incredible moments but the first half of the arc is garbage. Just as bad as the first GT saga. Super knocked GT out of the park in some ways but ultimately I think it’s undeniable that both are heavily flawed.

I think we can recognize that Gohan fighting someone stronger than Majin Buu in base form doesn’t make sense.

This is just my opinion but from my point of view gohan being a scholar is something that was forced on him at such a young age through chi-chi. She wantes him to be a scholar. We never really see what gohan humself wanted to do outside of that. We know he needs to train because he has too. He needs to be strong because goku and vegeta wont always be there. I never got the sence that he himself wanted to be a scholar. I could be wrong though..mabey i missed a few episodes were he expesses that

I like to think GT Gohan’s base is his ultimate form. I know they said they had no idea of the form when making the show, but if he “kept up with his training” and “never used his ultimate form” then him just going Super Saiyan 2 in any scenario is immediately stupid. I also like to think the Super Saiyan transformations stack on top of Ultimate in GT instead of how Super handled it. Hell up till Beast Gohan, GT Gohan was technically canonically stronger.

TW OPINION: Super Gohan (manga) is finally getting the front seat that Gohan deserves finally rivaling his father's powers and Broly for that matter in fact Super Broly is inspired by Gohan to train his savage mentality that's why you cant just be an anime watcher because you will miss out what franchise has to offer, you get to see a new origin of the sayians which honestly i like super's origin better in my opinion also i've been keeping it mind that super takes place before GT so it does makes since that Gohan will have a rough time keeping up with his training for 5 years then for the rest found a way to do it and this is the Gohan that gohan will become in GT found a balance with brain and bran, but I have a feeling if there will something after super I think this is why GT is not canon the canon events gives major plotholes in GT transformation like Ultra instinct and vegeta's awakened destroyers abilities (ultra Ego) and so much more but I feel like if who is ever charge now that wants GT to be canon a gain they could revamp GT keep the same plotline but also keep the events from super giving Gihan an even stronger story and making vegeta's understanding his rivalry more meaningful
