Hi, excellent video. I have an old 72sv with CV52HW-TM , do you think it’s worth upgrading to the new echomap uhd with the GT56UHD-TM ?
@MGMarineTech
@MGMarineTech 3 года назад
Absolutely!! You will be getting two huge upgrades. A MUCH better transducer that has a dedicated down image element (the cv 52 uses the side imaging elements to make the down image) And a much bigger screen which really helps with the detail in the side imaging. If you want a step up from that look into the echomap ultra units, they have 3x the pixels for a amazing side image picture.

Hi thanks for the video. I am new to fishing and have a 4 inch lowrance without gps or sideview or anything. I have seen the Garmin UHD 93sv for $650 with GT54 transducer. I fish in the lakes around Raleigh NC, mostly fishing shallow at the moment. You mentioned that the great thing about the GT56 is its flexibility with all the different frequencies (KHZ). Can you please explain what that means? Does a newbie need that? Thanks!
@MGMarineTech
@MGMarineTech 3 года назад
Absolutely!! So I think the easiest way to describe it would be that each kHz setting has its pros and cons. The higher the kHz the more detail you will get in the image on the screen. But that comes at a cost. Higher kHz frequencies can’t travel as far in the water so the range (out to the sides of the boat and underneath) is limited. The gt54 only had two options for side imaging. 455 and 1120. 455 you can scan 200+ feet off to the side or in deeper water (45’+) but the image wouldn’t have much detail. Now if it was ran in. 1120 kHz it would have great detail but a very limited range (I typically saw that the range was limited to about 50-60’ off to the side after that the image would get dark quickly. and water that was 35-45’ deep depending on bottom structure) So as a rule of thumb you would use lower frequencies to scan wide areas to find structure you are looking for and then get closer to them and switch to higher frequencies to get detail and see if that structure you found Is holding fish etc. Now the gt56 has a couple of benefits. 1 it’s 500watt compared to 350w which helps the range, And 2 it has 3 different down and side imaging frequencies. All these choices of frequencies allow you to pick one that is best suited for what you are trying to do and the water you are in. For example (and this is going to be hypocritical) say you have a gt56 transducer and you are in say 60’ of water and are trying to scan in 1000khz because you want good detail.. but it’s just not providing good returns because the water is too deep for that specific frequency. You could then switch to 800khz that would penetrate the deeper water and still provide decent detail. I hope that helps and I will be making a video in the future that will better describe when and where to use all the frequencies etc Thank you for watching !

Your videos are great. I am getting ready to order a boat. They will put a GPSMAP 943xsv in the center console, can't go any bigger. I want to put a larger devices on the bow and was thinking a GPSMAP 10x2. Install Panoptix on the trolling motor and use a GT56UHD on the transom. Tie it altogether with a Garmin GMS10 network switch. Wiring wise the GT56 goes into the 943xsv, Pantoptix transducer into its own box. Then network the 2 chartplotters and the Pantoptix to the GMS10. At that point I understand I can run either transducer on either chartplotter at the same time. Am I over complicating it by adding the GMS10? Should I just plug 1 transducer into each chartplotter? And still get my ability to see either transducers on both chartplottes at the same time? Thanks
@MGMarineTech
@MGMarineTech 2 года назад
Hey Paul, thank you! So to see other transducers that are connected to other units they will have to be networked. If only you have a 943xsv, a 10x2, and livescope, then you won’t need a gms10. The reason being that the 10x2 has 2 network ports. You plug the 943 into one and the livescope into the other. Then all 3 devices will be networked and sharing waypoint, maps, and transducers including livescope. Hope that helps

Thanks for this comparison. I chatted with Garmin asking why the G54 combo isn’t available on Garmin website. He told me that combo is no longer available and they are now doing the combo with the Gt56. He also said the 56 is better at death but the 54 is clearer. Kind of vague but he works for Garmin. I think the GT54 for the $450 I got it for isn’t worth spending $850 for the new GT56 combo. Would like your opinion on that. I also subscribed to your channel now that I’m a Garmin man.

I don’t have first hand experience with the gt56 yet. I should have a new video comparing the two side by side over the same structure as soon as I can get my hands on it. From what I am seeing, the gt56 has a much better range especially out to the side of the boat. My gt54 starts to fall off around 60-70’ to the side where I’m seeing pics of the gt56 with bright clean returns out to 100+ feet. I personally don’t think the gt56 transducer is designed specifically around deep water but that it has more frequencies options than the gt54 which allows it to operate in deeper water better. If that makes sense. I hope that helps and thank you for subscribing!
@ciscokid2444
@ciscokid2444 3 года назад
@@MGMarineTech Do the frequencies change themselves or do you select what frequency to use?
@MGMarineTech
@MGMarineTech 3 года назад
You have to manually select which frequency you want to use. When your side imaging is full screen hit the menu button and you should see the option to select a frequency. Gt54 will have 455khz or 1120 kHz. The rule of thumb here is the higher the kHz the more detailed the image will be, BUT the less range you will have. This is where the gt56 is suppose to shine. They are saying 20% more range in 1000khz mode. But you also have the option of 455 and 800, so the transducer is very flexible and allows for a lot of adjustment on the water. I plan to do a video on how to setup your unit depending on what you are trying to do as well as the take into account the type of water you are in.

If I have a 93sv plus with GT52, can I use a gt54 transducer and realize any improvements?
@MGMarineTech
@MGMarineTech 3 года назад
That is kind of a complicated question.. The short answer is no. The gt54 is not compatible with the “plus” units. And will not operate the transducer to its full potential which will basically revert back to a gt52. However… some have done it and said there was a slight gain in performance. (I have not seen any back to back pictures or pictures at all to prove this) Long story short.. if you already have a functioning gt52 don’t waste the money.

@@uploadtime1780 the plus unit is not a total loss! I personally run 2 on my boat and they are networked with a ultra 126, livescope,gt56, and a gt54. The gt51 is designed for deep water. It has a much lower kHz side and down imaging as well as higher power to be able to penetrate deep water columns. I’ve not used one as I have no need but they seem to be the go to transducer for off shore fishing. The picture they return isn’t the clearest from what I’ve seen, but that is to be expected in the depths this transducer was designed for.
