***** true, yeah i feel bad for johnny the most because his best friend (billy) went insane and tried to put him in prison, his other best friend (jim) was killed by niko, his entire mc was fucled by a civil war, his druggie ex went into rehab and quit after only like a couple of days and he only has 3 people left in his life. And yeah luis got lucky that everyone that was against him got killed. I really liked the whole tony and luis keeping the clubs as "family business". I thought ,because the other games were so miserable and depressing, that in the end tony would have been killed by anceloti's goons and luis wouls show up at the monoglobe and find tony dead

Rowan did a lot for Niko in the begining of the game. He gave him a house, work, and a girlfriend that at least stand for a while.

Yeah, I agree, the V was nothing like other GTA games in that sense. Sure, this one was a little bit too dramatic and had it's own flaws, the ending felt incomplete and somewhat anticlimactic, but the 5th one barely even felt like a GTA game and the story was a big part of it. To get away with all those ridiculous heists, profit crazy, and then to top it all off with a perfect threeway circlejerk, where everybody gets to live and be fucking greatest friends ever after or whatever (because, let's be honest, most people probably chose that one, there weren't any real antagonists or personal reasons to kill either Michael or Trevor). Yeah, it wasn't all that pretty, Franklin didn't get his girl back, but at least he could have lost Lamar or put in a very tough spot, like any of them should have. Michael's problems were a joke and his therapist was made into a complete clown, and Trevor's issues and his more sensitive stuff, that you get a feel of in missions like with his mother after the end, weren't developed to it's potential. So the thing with GTA 5 for Rockstar was to compromise anything in order to create the story with most action, spectacle and of the biggest scale, however ridiculous it had to be, and in the meantime still trying really hard for people to like it and no to feel that way about company's choices. It wasn't bad writing exactly, the characters were nice and could have made for a very interesting, deep story; it's just that the focus on profit with this game, and especially the online part, was so painfully obvious, it makes it really ironic with the whole social commentary on America and mass culture thing inside the game. This turned out to be quite long, sorry if it felt like a rant.

Almost every system does require money and is ruthless one way or the other, and there is certainly winning as well. But it is about what you consider as a "victory". For some people mansions and expensive cars are not entirely a victory and for some it is. Of course, if you are talking about joining the criminal life, you will almost never win. Bernie got rid of his life of crime and made something of himself. For him, it was a victory. Then Mr. Gravelli. Sure he was grasping for his breath but went down with wealth and influence. As agent ULP said, he died in peace. So if anything, the moral of this game is, there is winning but you got to know when to cut your losses and consider what is really important to you in life (aka win) rather than blaming everything on the "system".

Yeah, I much prefer this ending. Kate's death is tragic, but not depressing. There's a difference here. The ending with Roman dying hits a little too heavy for a conclusion I'd be comfortable to rest on - the bond he and Niko share is brotherly and spans their lifetimes. The romance kindling between Kate and Niko is sweet, but also much more recent. Alongside Roman, Kate seemed to push Niko towards a better life and lit a spark for him that maybe gives a touch of hope for the future. It's heartwrenching to see Niko lose someone he opened up to, but nowhere near as devastating as losing Roman.

my first time playing through GTA 5 i misunderstood and thought that Deathwish meant that Franklin would die, so i decided to kill Trevor and when i found out that it didnt have to happen i replayed through the entirety of the story mode (not thinking to use save files because im pretty dumb) just to save them all

Deal is the epitome of, "I've won, but at what cost"

I feel like Niko just wouldn't trust Dimitri again. While Deal does have a darker atmosphere which fits the game more, it kinda makes Niko incompetent, because Dimitri betrayed everyone who he'd crossed. He'd murdered his best friend, had targeted Roman with a kidnapping, and threatened Niko throughout the course of the game through phone calls, taunting him constantly about what would happen to him eventually. Niko imo wouldn't take that risk so he would choose Revenge. I even chose Revenge when I first played the game without knowing what it entailed and learned that Roman died in the other ending much later. He may not like himself for killing Dimitri but would view it as a necessity. Deal doesn't make sense.

The achievement for finishing GTA IV is also called 'You Won!', which fits the revenge ending more than deal does. Even Roman says 'we won' in the revenge ending

half of it actually, you only get 250k if you choose Revenge, and 500k if you choose deal. either way money is useless in GTA IV, you only use it for taxi, buy food, and buy weapons, there's no point getting a lot of money except if you want the half million archievment.

Very true, especially with the Holland Play Mission where you have to choose between Dwayne and Playboy. Do you listen to Playboy and kill Dwayne for a measly 25k which is very pointless because you will do a mission where you get 250k, and Playboy betrays you, or do you decide to take a big risk and kill Playboy who forces you to do dirty work for him. Killing Playboy is challenging, because you have to kill his bodyguards and then chase him down the streets, you don't get any money but the rewards are much higher, you get his penthouse, a special outfit, and Dwayne, becomes a good friend and ally to you, and plus Dwayne's special ability is very useful for certain side missions, especially for the Little Jacob and Badman drug missions and the Vigilante Missions.

It's hard to know really, both make sense in a way, remember Darko and how Niko didn't feel satisfied with his revenge? That could've motivated him to forget his differences with Dimitri, and (Maybe stupidly) trust him to make the deal, apart from the fact that Roman insisted him to do it. Jordan Caws IKR GTA IV may not have much replay value but the main story alone is all it would take to get somebody hooked. All GTA V has is Next Gen graphics and new vehicles/guns as well as more customization.

It is because GTA V had a different writing style. To me, V's ending (option C) was effective for me because, character wise, I felt close to Michael. Felt he was the most interesting character.Trevor as a sociopath and Franklin a low life, both with character and good intentions (or, for Trevor, "good"), sure, but Michael felt the one for the story. As such, seeing him abandoning his old self-misery lead life, and choosing to go back on top was powerful (and, I'll be honest, I nearly cried in Reuniting the family. I was legitimately happy to see them together). Option A is also powerful this way. GTA IV was effective in making you connect with Niko, GTA V is effective only if you connect deeply with one character, and see the story from his perspective (I eventually saw Trevor and Franklin as side characters, not co-protagonist, making the story more effective for me).

I didn't like GTA IV's finale (endings) because no matter what option you choose you will still get a grim and dark ending. It always leaves me somehow empty and sad every time I finish the storyline. At least GTA V gives you the option of a "happy" ending.

Andrei Cotos "last ever good protagonist" GTA IV came directly before GTA V, this makes your statement kind of stupid as a result. However, i agree with the fact that Niko was better than the 3 protagonists in GTA V, not to say that V's protagonists where bad, they're pretty good, Niko just barely slips to make it to first place, he suffered too much.

Well... not only GTA V have three protagonist, but you forgot The Lost and Damned and Ballad of Gay Tony. Yeah, they were shorter games and didn't had much time to develop Johhny or Luis story better, but still, they count as protagonists and Niko was the best of them. So, that makes 5 protagonist introduced after Niko, and that'S without counting Chinatown Wars, because it would be 6 with it. I think is not incorrect to call him "the last ever good protagonist".

Yes compared to the ending in which roman dies, the ending in which kate dies is heaven as niko gets over kate’s death after killing jimmy, but he never got over roman’s death even after killing dimitri.

And packs brother is in jail and Derrick is probably dead and even though it’s confirmed Derricks death is canon considering gta v packie mentions Derrick is dead Francis is locked up after the events of gta iv.
