PlayStation nearly had another amazing single player exclusive. Do you think we would have seen SIE Rockstar Games eventually if it stayed exclusive? / badgergoodger / badgergoodger
@@BadgerGoodger It would be so pissed, im hoping they make a remake on next gen because they could make it even better. Since GTA 6 probably won't be out anytime soon though i KNOW they're going to pull some BS like that lol
@@BadgerGoodger Oh right you know what nevermind, i have the Xbox one so i can still play the 360 version but i get what you're saying just like put that on there, not like a remaster. Surprised they haven't actually because they got like red dead and shit i thought. Or maybe that's just streaming on ps now PlayStation is so stupid. Like its cool that the new xbox has full backwards compatibility, really cool, but if the PS5 had backwards compatibility all the way back to the PS1? They would legitimately make the greatest console ever! And imagine even a psp add on omg. But that shit won't make them any money so they don't care! It amazing me how bad Sony has been this gen coming off the ps3. I really hope the PS5 flops hard even tho i know its not because they need a wake up call. They're the single most important modern gaming company, the PS1 started the modern era and the PS2 is the only reason gaming is so big now! It's frustrating, but you know the only reason gaming exist as we know it is because of Nintendo and they're even worse, actively fighting AGAINST the gaming community. I do think a lot of their games have heart and creativity at least unlike sony who makes sure every first party game is generic enough to appeal to as many people as possible. GOW suffered the most from it. Microsoft i think they legitimately let their devs do whatever the fuck they want lol, no guidance or quality assurance. Like omg they just do not give af at all even though they have the most money of the 3. Forza horizons was the only first party game that felt professional AND good. like state of decay is good but not professional, gears is professional but not good. What they need to do is make Rare make fable. And buy Sega because that yakuza 0 opened my eyes, put all that shit on gamepass. Give them all the money they need. Idek what the fuck im talking about anymore lol its not even 420 yet
I definitely would've bought one. I got a PS4 exclusively for RDR2 once it was announced and for the enhanced version of GTA V. That's it. Apart from Rockstar titles, I'm not too much of a gamer.
@@jackreeves7 I'm sure they're nice, but I have zero interest in them and I highly doubt I'd enjoy them more than GTA or RDR. No other type of game pulls me in like those two. The only other series that really hooked me was Dead Space, and that's been dead for almost a decade now. GTA and Red Dead are my choices for the foreseeable future, with maybe a few rounds of Battlefield mixed in every couple of months. And I'm very content with that decision as most other games just don't pique my interest.
@@LanceVanceDance84 I really do recommend you try some other games, I love Gta5 and rdr2 I'm not a huge fan of. Just my opinion but Tlou, God of war are far better but thats just me. They are cheap aswell and I hope you try other games, I use to be similar to you and then I played Tlou and wow
that would mean less sales for rockstar. by the time 4 was announced they had millions of fans on all platforms. exclusives would of been a really stupid move for gta 4
If this is true and GTA 4 was actually going to be a PS3 exclusive then I would imagine it being a timed exclusive similar to the 3D era. I feel like the sales of the game would be somewhat lower but at the same time, increase the PS3 unit sales. I honestly bought a PS3 mainly for GTA 4. Worth mentioning that the Xbox 360s were more popular in the early days of the 7th gen consoles than the PS3. Unrelated but I kinda wish if R* relased an enhanced version of GTA IV for the current generation of consoles and PC's.
Xbox 360 had the edge in 7th gen because it came out first and Microsoft got devkits out faster. Developers' head start learning the 360 meant many non-exclusive 7th gen games, includuing GTA IV and RDR, perform better on 360 even though the PS3 is theoretically more powerful.
@@a8masruum455 they won't affect the gameplay which why we play games for these small details like car crash and others won't mean any thing why don't you talk about the weired handling in GTA IV what makes a game good is not it reality
@@a8masruum455 I accept that online is shit in V but the alien things are good Easter eggs that Rockstar games but so people can make their opinions of the Easter eggs on RU-vid and the game will be alive gta 4 dead quickly because it has a small amount of Easter eggs + the player won't even realize the small details GTA IV has more small details yes but GTA V is funnier than GTA IV GTA V meant to be unrealistic and they added some agenda to keep game alive and GTA IV optimization is shit and the ai is dump in missions even GTA SA AI is better than GTA 4 ai (in missions) why don't we play latest Rockstar games releases and that's it i've been playing GTA games since 2003 and all fans say that GTA SA and v are better than IV
While GTA IV is probably not the first 7th game I played, It is the first after I got a PS3 for Christmas or birthday. The only reason why I switched to Xbox 360 is so I can play Episodes from Liberty City and because I had to share me PS3.
A bit late to the party, but I wonder if Pachter could be confusing GTAIV with LA Noire? The announcement of Agent being exclusive came just a few months after the deal to transfer LAN to Rockstar. When LAN was later announced to be multi-platform, the rumor at the time was that Rockstar made Agent exclusive so LAN could be multi-plat. In the next paragraph Pachter says the idea of Agent came after L4D and DR released - forcing them to kill a zombie project, however, Agent was an idea long before either were announced. Maybe by "idea" he means one of the many internal reboots of the Agent project? Maybe I'm scrutinizing it too much - I take anything he says with a pinch of salt.
Lucas Santos nah, I don't think so. I think they can cut some songs, but the most important one - R* easily can expand license. Probably they lazy or just have bad taste after backlash from studio that ported all GTA's for phones and console or other things.
I am so glad this never happened. GTA IV is my favourite game of the series and probably the best game I have ever played, and 99% of my playtime comes from the PC version. I live in a third world country, and here any console is just as expensive as a decent gaming PC. With a PC you may not be able to play comfortably from the couch or the bed, but it offers FAR more capabilities than any console. In PC, once you have beaten every aspect of the game you can continue enjoying it with mods. It's the reason why San Andreas is still being played by millions more than fifteen years after its release.
I saw how the game looks like on PC and how it looks like on PS3 when I tried it out. (I Tried out the PS3 version because that's what I had.) And it looks much worse and had a lot of Trouble thinking what graphics should I use. People keep Saying about putting lower Brightness because the game is dark but I disagree.
I hated rockstar for this cause I had to buy a 360 just to play the dlc and then re bought it on PS3 when it came out and sold the Xbox after. Cost me hundreds of dollars all together.
The PC port for this game was so badly done that in my old laptop, even GTA V ran smoother than GTA IV. I'm not a console guy, I stopped being one after the Nintendo 64, so I'm glad the game was not exclusive, even when the PC port was awful.
On pc you can get a good 60 fps if you turn off shadows and reflections and everything low. While ps3 is a headache with all the drops. Still though the game is so good i don't even mind that
Honestly trying to find WHY it released like that, even with extra time, would be interesting. Also I think GTA 5 is just better optimized overall then 4 and therefore can run on lower spec machines.
I have a average pc and it works great i don't get the hate for gta 4, i only had it crash once and that was when i first started it up with settings on high.
Im glad it made it over to xbox platform mainly for the backwards compatibility with xbox one. it runs way smoother than the ps3 version, I recently did a play through of IV and the episodes.
Seriously, your videos are so professional and the work you put into research is just astonishing. You deserve way more subscribers Bro... keep up the great work!
I can't really say why but watching footage from or even thinking about GTA IV has made me really nostalgic recently, in a way few other games have. It may sound slightly ridiculous but I'm pretty sure part it had a much larger impact on my than just on a gameplay level; part of why I got interested in making the kind of music I do is hearing the GTA IV soundtack at just the right age, and exploring the city's every little detail and layout really spurred my interest in city planing. Sorry for going off on a tangent here, seeing the footage at 3:15 almost made me a little Misty (no pun intended) eyed
I always thought the real big what if that had it actually happened we would probably be speaking of the original Xbox more often than we do is what if in 2001 when Rockstar proposed GTA 3 to come out on Xbox first or possibly be exclusive to Xbox to the Director of 3rd Party Relations Kevin Bachus. What if they accepted Rockstars offer instead of rejecting it and letting it go to the PlayStation like they did?
The strong blurry filter was put there to cover up graphical imperfections: like textures pixelation, jaggies, janky geometry and often poor render distance. Why GTA San Andreas looked blurry as hell in PS2? Well it was in order to hide lack of anti-alliasing and very poor draw distance.
GTA IV deserves a good PC port. At the glory she deserves. No cut radio content. Buffalo new york. The hidden missions. All of it. They don’t even realize or care how poorly realized their best title was.
Well that because the game was terribly optimized even on Xbox 360. On PS3 they only use one core and didn´t take advantage of SPEs for being too complex, runs at 640p no AA and drops to 10-20fps
I bought the PS3 version first and then got a Xbox 360 a year later and bought the Xbox 360 version just for the DLC content. Then I have the Games for Windows version which I still have and just recently bought it on a steam sale. I bought GTA 4 like 4 or 5 times, I was thinking of getting it on PS3 again since the PC version I have now wont let me modd my game. I do want better graphic effects like the rain and blur effects.
I may be coming late but if you still have your PC GFWL copy, you can use the serial code on the Rockstar launcher and get the Complete Edition, even if you have already installed the GFWL version before You will get the butchered radio stations though, since it's digital
@@mank11nd Well licensing is one the reason why GTA games have to came out later on PC. Instead of being released with console version in April 2008, they have to release the game on December 2008
Well seems like Rockstar would screw GTA IV just like Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories, excluise idea sucks, just like Grand Theft Auto is popular because is open world and we got variety like we know there a lot things to do and see, is the same thing about have the series avaliabe in basic every console ever know by the man.
If it's a PS exclusive, it will sold PS3 just to play this game, a great example of this was Marvel's Spider-Man 1 back in 2018 and now Spider-Man 2 in PS5, which makes the console sell just to play as Venom or Spider-Man, even Mary Jane in some capacity.
Dam roman can take those kicks at 3:19. Yep Badger, I would have bought a PS3 for IV if it was exclusive. Up to 75 million to also release it in the xbox!!! what!!! dang!! hey Badger we should get a PS3 so we could play multiplayer together, get those online trophies. But I also heard that the xbox was the original version it was designed on.. and that in technical terms it was ported to the PS3 thats why they say it performs better on the 360.
I thought the video would have something to do with the fact that GTA 4 runs better on consoles, and because of the disaster of the pc port this would make it "almost a ps3 exclusive", but whoa I didnt expect that much of a story
In my opinion, GTAIV was even planned to be Xbox 360 exclusive, but Microsoft probably didn't want to risk too much. So they went with cheaper deal to secure Episodes from Liberty City. If GTAIV would be an Xbox 360 exclusive then Microsoft probably would 'win' Gen 7.
If GTA IV had only made it to the PS3 I wouldn't be a diehard fan of that game for almost 10 years and I'd still be waiting for it to be emulated on the RPCS3. It's port to PC may suck ass but it was the only way I could have it
there was a AD Bluray disc that came with my PS3, inside was paper ad "Manual Thicc" with all the games coming Exclusively to PS3 and GTA4 was in there with LBP and Uncharted.
I think it they made it an Xbox exclusive rockstar would've been bought by Microsoft, but that never stopped them from releasing their games on other consoles. For example, Minecraft Dungeons was released on all platforms despite the first thing you see when opening it is that it's made by Xbox Game Studios.
Game's long dead pick an old console if you want to play it The only reason Rockstar is re-releasing GTA 5 is because they're still adding content to online
Here’s what happened gta 4 was meant to be ps3 launch exclusive then ms offered rockstar around 75mil for gta to launch same day as ps3 and 2 exclusive dlc rockstar offered Sony their contract money back Sony told rockstar to keep it and give them another exclusive game (agent) the gta dlc was exclusive to Xbox and didn’t sell that well rockstar was pissed and managed to find a loophole in the contract and brought it to ps3 a year later rockstar never made agent but have been very chummy with Sony again since the ps4 came out
@@paulbell3682 yeah I looked it up after writing the comment, the disk is apparently rare because there was a very VERY small gap of time between eflc being Xbox exclusive and eflc having the platinum hits label.
-Well PS3 has blu-ray, it would allowed more content and other things. -However they had to deal with such a complex Cell CPU which caused inferior PS3 ports in which runs the game on only one PPE and ignored all SPEs -The Split Memory RAM would have to restrict many aspects of the game
Hi in 2013 I’m buy Xbox 360 only for GTA5. This time I’m live in small Russian city, but it was worth it the game was great. Now I want to buy PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X for GTA 6 , I don’t know what me chose? 😅
Episodes From Liberty City was a timed exclusive DLC expansion pack, released in 2009 for the Xbox 360 then it got released for the PS3 & Windows in 2010.
@@paulbell3682 It may have been labeled as DLC but it wasnt. It was both marketed and sold as a whole new game. DLCs dont need seperate discs, not to mention, dont normally even come on discs.
@@HU1212ICAN3 It is DLC though as you can also download The Lost and Damned & The Ballad Of Gay Tony as DLC for GTA IV if you don't feel like buying the physical copy of Episodes From Liberty City or a physical copy of GTA IV: The Complete Edition for the Xbox 360 or PS3.
@@HU1212ICAN3 Also, The Lost and Damned was originally digital-only when it was released as an exclusive DLC for the Xbox 360 version of GTA IV on February 17th, 2009.
@@paulbell3682 DLC is downloadable only, unless its sold with a GOTY or other release which comes out much later. Thats why its called DLC. If that was the case, LCS would have been DLC. EFLC is the same thing. Its not DLC, it was just marketed as that to help sales. The DLC isnt on the disc, just the code allowing you access to it.
