The atmosphere has since been modded into the PC release. One of the benefits to mods, I guess. Strangely enough, that version is totally fucking *bugged* with incorrect damage models. Crash a car from behind and it takes damage in the front. I have no idea how that got past playtesting, but if you were to ask the community on the quality of the port, one can fathom the game got very little playtesting. Somehow Rockstar, a company that can literally make whatever it wants, is also the same company where their definitive versions of games are very *rarely* on PC. Wrap your brain around that. Let's just look at the GTA franchise with PC releases. GTA - Started out as a PC first game, probably the best version if you can run it today. GTA II - Same as above GTA III - Started out as a game for PS2, and the PC version is a 1:1 port with additional items in the game world. A trend of improvements that doesn't last. The PC version is also missing a few assets and a song. GTA VC - The PC version is actually based on a build of the game older than the final PS2 release. Many assets and textures are missing in this version that were on consoles. GTA SA - One of Rockstar's worst ports. It has some improvements like better textures and more ingame geometry but a bucketload of issues. There's the broken damage model as I cited earlier, a broken day/night cycle, incorrect car shading, missing assets, missing parked cars, and is *still* getting fixes in 2015. It's a testament to the devotion of fans of this franchise to put up with such a shit port. GTA IV - Considered by many to be one of the worst ports ever released for the PC, and yet, conversely, is also the definitive edition of the game. The game can't keep a solid 60fps even on current hardware, but features improved textures, a slightly improved day/night cycle, texture improvements to some clothing, and a better recoil animation for the desert eagle. The Ballad of Gay Tony, GTA IV's second DLC pack, incorrectly loads console textures, despite the game having high quality PC textures to load instead, but this can be fixed by renaming and replacing the assets. As you can sort of see, the trend of them getting iffier and iffier really continued as the series went on. There's almost always a catch with recommending the PC version of a GTA game, and I sincerely hope GTA V and GTA Online do not continue this unfortunate trend. It's odd to see such a major franchise, a franchise that *started* on PCs, fuck up so consistently after it went to consoles. One might be better off playing San Andreas on PS2 for consistency, if only because it's the only platform that has all of the 3D Universe games on it (the PC is lacking official versions of Liberty and Vice City Stories).

I agree, bro. It's not about the graphics, or the mods. The PS2 was original. I remember playing SA when it first came out in 2004, and I was 14. I loved that game. I just bought it a couple of weeks ago for Xbox 360, and it's just not the same. I believe old games like GTA SA, GTA 3, Vice City, and all of the other old ones are way better than the new ones.

Epicci HL2 blew my fucking mind back then, i stopped going to the cyber (place where your rent pc's by the hour in argentina) because my grandma bought a pc, i think it had something like a geforce 5500 im not sure, the graphics blew my mind but sadly i was too young to understand it's story, which later on many years after, i replayed and thought it was the best history period.

***** Oh I so know the feeling. First time I saw half-life 2 pics in gaming magazine I was like wtf. The graphics looked so good. Half-life 1 was my favourite game and I totally had to get half-life 2 and thank god I did. Made the steam account with the half-life 2 and still using the same account to this day. I really didnt understand the story when I was young but later on I started to understand it, I have played all half-lifes so many times that it would be impossible to count them :D (now im 20 years old, so i was pretty young gamer back then :D)

+Android 16 i just did that on my pc, i installed SkyGFX (ported ps2 effects), ginput and widescreen fix, it looks great now

Valentino Harpa i managed to get a good framerate once i disabled the dualpass alpha fix on skygfx settings, just left the World option enabled, and disabled the other ones. then i disabled hq shadows too. silentpatch mod also bumps framerate by removing the 14ms delay. anyway im playing on a core i3 intel hd graphics 3000 series so you should be okay lol

Differently from the other versions,it had a bit of atmosphere that actually made the three city's look different.

Odin's Playground PS2 version actually has better features over-all compared to the PC, believe it or not. I'm assuming Rockstar were just lazy or didn't give a fuck but you can easily mod the game on PC, so it'll resemble the PS2.

ApexApocalypse The thing is, the 360 is a re-mastered version made years after the PC version came out. So take that into account. San Andreas was a PS2/PC game, and the PS2 was a gen earlier than the 360, so the PC will look like the PS2 due to console holdback. If SA was made when the 360 and PS3 was out it would look better than those consoles, etc. Like how PC looks better than PS4/XB1 on GTA V.

I mean it looks fake in technical graphic in Android/XBOX version. It doesn't feel cinematic and atmospheric like PS2 and PC, limitation of the models got depths than Android/XBOX version, Android/XBOX version too real and too HD, making the models and surroundings look like tight bondage to me. Android/XBOX version you like it, not my problem, but I only prefer good old PS2/PC.

It's like, random things are pasted on some random background with no logic behind it, there's no depth, no warmth, that specific atmosphere just cannot be experienced, it's like dozen of filters had been removed. The only real advantage, from the technical point of view, that 360/mobile version has over PS2 is draw distance. But I guess, that's how the business is run, just say it's "HD" and everyone starts losing their minds over it. Throw some shiny and sharp textures and there you go. I like every platform, with PC being my favorite (just because of KB and MS, not because of the "moar coars - master race bullshit"), but regarding San Andreas, everything after PS2 is a downgrade. I just hope, that if Sony brings PS2 backwards compatibility to PS4 and Rockstar decide to release GTA SA once again for it, we'll have the chance to see something very, very similar to PS2 graphics, only with extended draw distance.

It's not a 360 version. It's a mobile version. The game was ported from mobile to 360.

In that case it wouldn't be a "remaster" it would be a "re-make", wich means they would have to re-make the entire game from the ground up, wich would be a complete waste of time (thankfully PC gamers have the time to do the dirty work :) )

I know, all I said is that if they're going to take the time to remaster it then they may as well have just go the whole way by remaking it- independent modders have done it using the GTA 4 Rage engine so it wouldn't take the actually developers more than a year to complete- and it would be something people actually want.

@@b1xst3r65 ps2 have actually better effects PC's graphic is just more refined but it seems like there is no atmosphere. Look at the ps2 version instead: you can feel the hot sunny weather just looking at the game. Xbox/mobile keeps some of the ps2 atmospheres and colors and improves the PC graphic and combines them but it fails when it comes to the characters' models that look like plastic like you said, which makes that version the worst instead of the best like it was supposed to be.

To be fair though, they don't have too much to work with on mobile. I'm surprised they managed to squeeze in the entire game properly.

NdM Gaming it was surprised too! The game was about 3.6gb on PS2. Pretty sure compression is much easier to do these days so they squeezed the game down to 1.6gb and made the graphics better. They did remove some music though :(

sebotrp The 360 version have better graphics compared to the PS2 but the old version looked better with the image filters, also the cutscenes now have some glitches that were not in the original release. Probably because it's a port from a mobile version of the game.
