I am from Guangzhou. The gap between the rich and the poor in this city is very large. The construction gap is also very big. Only the advanced part will think that this is an advanced city. Only the backward part will feel worse than Africa, which is very contradictory.

Been living in GZ for more than 20 years ever since I was born here and I never stopped loving my city. Few foreigners know this city despite the fact it's the third biggest city in China (almost surpassed by Shenzhen now tho). Glad you enjoyed the trip here! The older areas are worth checking out too. Last but not the least, Guangzhou simply has the best food on earth. Let me phrase like this. My mom had been to more than 50 countries including Africa, mid-east, Oceania, NA, SA, almost the entire Europe and even the Antartic (She's heading the Arctic this August). And she has yet to find a place where you can find better food than Guangzhou. So if you came to GZ and didn't rly check out the food here, you would be missing out, A LOT! XD
I have been to Guangzhou ( Canton ) several times in the last 7 years due to my wife's family lives there. The skyscraper that you can see in the distance between the other tall buildings is the Citic Plaza Building I think.
The thing is modi gov is keep promoting nationalism, dancing with US to hate China... But they don't realize US is not remedy of India. China and India has similar size, similar population, similar foundation, similar history of western colonialism. India should really get along with China and two countries can help each other. China is good at infrastructure, India has the youngest labor in the world....
If you come back to Guangdong province in the future, I think you have to try Guangdong's breakfast tea, which is a very iconic tradition renowned nationwide for its foods and culture. People seat here, chat with each other, eat snacks and drink tea. It's a big loss if you come to Guangdong and didn't experience it. Make sure you would go to some famous brands for the most original taste of foods.
Those apartments with the helipad looking things on top are only around 4500 per month. Not very expensive actually. If you live on the other side of the river you can get them for like 2100-2500. Yeah, Guangzhou is really underrated. People don't know there are more foreigners here than any other city in China. Which is why it has a really deep cultural/food scene.
You gonna love GZ. I live there and I lived in Foshan the city right next to it.. You will be surprised how much diverse culture you will see in GZ.. Lots of EXPATS from all over the world live and work there. GZ also has the largest population of African's and middle eastern people.
Finally ! The video reminds me of the hot humid summer days back in GuangZhou which was pretty nasty that we were constantly sweat but it makes the night feel chiller .

Beautiful. I would go there just for the food. Nice to see such blue sky. I think those are called consulates, only the ones in Beijing called embassies. That ride reminds me of Stratosphere hotel in Vegas.

Hmmm, we Chinese have the stereotype against those tier 1 cities people, which basically is saying big cities people only go after money and being cold-blooded. I know it’s not true, people who refused to hold your cam might be not quite understanding what you mean, or might be thinking you are a scam (I personally got scammed on subway in Guangzhou). But Considering most Chinese are friendly to foreigners, the former will more likely to be the reason?
I agree. It probably would have gone differently if he had spoken fluent Chinese when asking. Imagine your an American at Disneyland and someone Asian talking to you in Chinese. Probably you'd just say sorry.
There is some truth in people in big cities being cold-hearted and not just in China because more big and prosperous a place is, more complex the society there.

Thanks Patrick, To end any China trip I have a plan of attack I call "soft landing" to wind down from all the cultural ( temples, museums ) sightseeing walking and not feel so brutally plucked from a holiday and dumped in my home city. So that's a combination of 4 or 5 days in a Chinese mega city ( bright lights, big city wandering ) + arriving in Australia on a Sunday morning around 6 am ( no road traffic , woken on plane with breakfast ready to sleep off jet lag in my own bed). Hong Kong's always been that place but I've considered Guangzhou too. Now I've an idea of Guangzhou city landscape I think you've backed up my next Chinese soft landing city. Of course there's more than skyscrapers in any perfect soft landing city ( show me a temple and I'll visit ), but a city that doesn't have such a mammoth list of must- see- or -kick -yourself cultural stops ( Beijing , Xi'an) is part of a balanced holiday too. Wandering leaves precious time to share and swap phones for selfies with the locals and have giggly ½ English ½ Chinese conversations where nothing much is understood but somehow both know pretty much what's meant. There is no shame in holding the umbrella in the sun. Guangzhou is sunny even a little bit overload.🤣 We locals all use the umbrellas in the sun in summer. Exposure to the sun can cause sunburn in GuangZhou. The GuangZhou library is closed on Wednesday. But you can return the book still. The design of GuangZhou Opera House is like a pebble lying by the pearl river. The design of GuangZhou library is like a opening book, which means the people walking into the books and the sea of knowledge.
Many Americans have a negative view about China which is kind of crazy. Just went to Shanghai and was blown away by how nice it was. Shanghai is definitely the NYC of China. And actually the blonde hair thing is true. A lot of people wanted to take a photo with me.
I'll be taking a job near Guangzhou, and your video has been very helpful to me to understand the area better. Food in Guangzhou, Guangzhou's breakfast is very famous, recommended dishes such as shrimp dumplings, burned wheat, chicken feet, barbecued pork, glutinous rice chicken, and so on.
Try Guangzhou Morning tea, it's quite famous in southern China which affect HongKong a lot. I highly suggest you go to White Swan Hotel in Guangzhou ,they have the best Morning tea.
Hey, at the beginning of the video that's where exactly I spent my first 10 years of young life before moving to NY. Thou (sadly but just joking) now I'm just as American as everyone here. Only went be like 3 times and I feel like a foreigner myself walking through the town in Guangzhou. Very mixed feelings
