What I love about Rocket acknowledging he’s a raccoon is because it wasn’t about identifying his species. It wasn’t like “oh, I guess Quill was right all along.” Instead, Rocket was identifying with the raccoons in the cage. He was saying, “I’m the same as them.” And accepting that part of his identity, taking it more as a last name than a physical identifier. What a fantastic payoff to a running joke.

I don't think Groot was saying new words at the end. I think he was still saying "I Am Groot" but they chose to have it come across as English so the audience could feel like apart of the family and finally being able to understand Groot's language like the Guardians can. I think the telling sign that he was still speaking in his language was none of the Guardians seemed to react when he spoke English, I just think we, the audience, were allowed to be apart of their group for a moment.

Just a reminder to people because I don’t think this was mentioned at all in the movie, but I kind of felt like the characters still portrayed it. Nebula and Rocket have lived 5 years without the rest of the Guardians. I kind of feel like they are the most stable maybe because of it. I also think that’s why Nebula is able to accept not having Gamora being a direct part of her life since her grief is 5 years older.

If you rewatch the opening of Vol. 1 Peter is the only one screaming, and his grandfather is basically begging him to stay there while the doctors try to help his mom

My interpretation of the “Adam Warlock saving Star-Lord” scene is that it’s in reference to the “Creation of Adam’s” finger. In that painting, God’s finger is supposed to be completely outstretched, while Adam’s has some bend to it, representing how at any moment humanity could reach forward and make connection with God but we don’t. Similarly, when Adam Warlock finally touches Star-Lord, it represents how Warlock has finally reached out and accepted “humanity” and our values. In saving Quill, Warlock completes the connection.

Rocket doesn't like being called a Raccoon because it was beaten into him that was the reason why he and his friends were slaughtered; Because to HE they are imperfect and can be better. In terms of themes, it ties to the whole "You didn't want to make things perfect; You just hated things the way they are"; Rocket no longer hates himself or "Hates things the way they are".
@nps6724
@nps6724 Год назад
I also think he didn't know what a racoon was so he took it as an insult. He's constantly being belittled and insulted throughout his MCU appearances so a word he doesn't know must be more of the same in his mind. Especially due to how the High Evolutionary treated him and his own guilt and self-hatred due to what happened to Lylla, Teefs, and Floor.

Love the video, but I disagree about your take on “Dog Days Are Over”. I think it was THE perfect song to play to end the movie. It may not be the iconic song from the 2000s, but it is a smash hit, and the whole message of things being ok was so cool to me. It was a goodbye for a lot of characters, and the feel good nature of the song made me so happy and I feel like it perfectly encapsulated the ending of an era.

I hope it doesn't stay a goodbye forever tho. I just hope we can see them team up one last time in the Secret Wars. These characters are so great and iconic and they were one of the few remaining anchor points of the mcu at the current state of it. With them leaving as well there's no point in mcu for me anymore. Also i agree about the song. It was the perfect song for ending scene. It started as rather sober with characters saying goodbyes to each other but then the song became very energetic, symbolizing the fact while the guardians as we knew and loved them have parted ways and the group ended, it also symbolized a new beginning in the next chapters of their lives, that even though they are not together anymore, they are moving onto a new beginning in their individual lives. It was a clever and symbolically beautiful way to end the movie in my opinion.

this is just them getting old thinking that imo. truth is it might as well be an 80s song now and anyone who listens to "oldies" knows it well. it has been on american idol and all those singing shows a ton for the older heads too and then young people that listen to "oldies" associate it with all the other oldies just like we(me and others that were teens in the 2000s) bulked 70s and 80s music together when we were young. that's my estimation of it at least

I don't know if it's the sound design, the lyrics, perfectly hitting the beats with the on-screen action, or all three, but the guardians of the Galaxy movies really have a way of bringing out the meaning and the feels in the songs that are used. Songs that have just been in the background and pleasant all my life seem genuinely moving on all the levels that great songs are supposed to.

What I loved the most about the movie, was that they had cliches, but they all felt so natural and not forced in anyway. It was also a lot more about found family and getting closure to things that happened in your past. Nebula had already went through that closure process, so it was nice seeing her being the emotional stable person, who now was mostly finding where her place would be. Even so, she did also grow in the movie, she became more and more part of the family. She got less and less angry and her temper flares mellowed out in a very subtle way. I also loved that they were not forcing any romantic relationship at all and they ended up not having one. Personally I think the need to make at least one romantic relationship happening in a movie an overused cliché, so it was nice that it didn't happen. Instead they went with showing it's okay to be happy without having a romantic relationship. You CAN be happy without it. Happiness is what YOU make it, not what you get. The healing process was amazingly done. Slow and steady, a subtle undertone throughout the entire movie. The characters were healing, they were learning, they were GROWING as a person. Even Groot, though he was mostly a support and fighter character. I like to see Groot as the ground or foundation of the family, the one that they all know they can count on and is keeping them grounded in some way. Anyway, this was a great movie and a perfect way to end the GOTG franchise, if that's what they're aiming for.

There were several parts in this film that made me cry, but the one that hit me the hardest was…. SPOILERS!!!!!!!!! Rocket’s near-death experience. This hit me very hard for a few reasons. 1) My mother was tragically killed by a drunk driver in 1995. I was only 2 years old back then, thus I never actually knew her and have no memory of her. So when that scene played, I imagined myself as Rocket and my mom instead of Lylla. 2) I also was hit by a car in 2012. Though I survived and only suffered a broken leg, the scene caused me to imagine what could have happened had I actually died that day or, like Rocket, had a near-death experience. 3) I in turn realized that had I died that day in 2012, I could have been reunited with my mother a decade ago. So yeah, all of it hit my heart harder than anything else in the MCU (even more than Natasha’s sacrifice), so I lost it big time. By the end of the film, it had indeed broke me, though I also did love how it ended the trilogy. Just beautiful.

This was by far my favorite Marvel movie, surpassing Spiderman and Infiinity War.I went in skeptical, I never thought I'd be balling my eyes out over a cgi raccoon like I did. The acting from Bradley Cooper screaming when Lila died completely did me in, also with Groot trying to save Quill in space iwth his branches breaking. I actually had to leave the theatre to go to the bathroom when Rocket went into the room where all the animals were to be left behind, but they saved them all, even the giant worm things, I was sobbing. This movie had great comedic timing it kept me laughing and then would gut punch me in the next scene with all the emotions. Loved this movie. The threat level may not have been "avengers level" but it was always there and sometimes you need something more local like your second best friend being on the cusp of death. Really hoped that Rocket was going to say something when reading that his species really is raccoon to the effect of "Well I'm never gonna live THAT down". Seeing Drax calm the children down was an "oh yeah, that's right" moment for me because it is really easy to forget that he was a dad before all this. A theory I have is the reason that Rocket was the only creation of the High Evolutionary that could come up with new ideas, is because while he was being tested and his brain was still developing, he got to listen to music. He even asked what the sound was. Music is scientifically known to help in brain development in children. In fact, kids that are in school band tend to do better in math and science subjects. I know it isn't a fully developed theory, but maybe you guys can solidify it a bit more. Marvel got to fake us out in the trailers and to everyone's relief, nobody important died, but the threat certainly felt more real because of the trailers. My main thought coming into this movie was if they kill Rocket, we riot. It felt like a Guardians movie in that it was fun, may have had a minimal effect on the main MCU in general, but mostly was detached from the MCU as a whole. Overall, 88.

Maybe it was just me, but there felt like there was some biblical undertones to this movie. I am not very familiar with the Bible, but the connections made from High Evolutionary to God were very particular, and then having the Warlock named Adam. Also, all the animals running to get to the other ship at the end felt very much like the Noah's animals. I'm not really sure if it means anything, I just was continuing to see those small connections.

Nice review. I thought it was a great movie and a lot of fun to watch. Two things I thought were pretty cool that didn't get mentioned...Mantis's lowkey but I think quite sad/defining comment when she says (talking about Drax's value to the Guardian crew) something to the effect of "He's the only one who doesn't hate himself". It really summarized one of the big themes of the movie and Guardians series of "perfection" vs "flawed". The second is that, I'm pretty sure, the hallway scene had no cuts (or at least only hidden cuts). Given all the comments Marvel gets for it's choppy fight scenes I have to think this was a direct statement being made and it came out really cool.

I would love if we never got a full Guardians movie again but got short, straight to Disney+ special presentations. They can be really fun, one-off adventures and they can show up in other movies, but let the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy stay the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy.

My head canon: Thor taking Groot as an elective isn't a class where he learned the language. He took the Groot language translation as an elective. Similar to how a lot of Asgardian magic is a psychic trait, understanding empath languages is an extension of that.

30:00 You guys understand that the current Groot (Swol Groot) is not the same Groot as in Guardians 1 right? I will admit, I didn't know this until recently. Current Groot who we've seen grow up from Baby Groot, to Teenage Groot, to now Swol/Colossal Groot is in fact the son of OG Groot. It blew my mind when I learned that.

Given the marketing, I was convinced we’d see at least one major death. I inwardly braced myself every time Drax took a beating or got holes shot literally through him - they could have killed him at least three times but I’m very glad they didn’t. I’m also glad they didn’t put Quill and Gamora back together, their paths moved in separate ways and seeing not only Quill moving on and allowing himself to be happy without her, but seeing the family that Gamora found with the ravagers gave real closure on their arc. Absolutely adored the film and every way it made me feel. Guardians has always been more about the found families and seeing so many iterations of what that means was a really sweet close.

I think one way to justify Thor understanding Groot, but also have it work with the theory you guys pose is that understanding Flora Colossi does involves creating relationship with one of the species, but once you do it, you never have to do it again. You can understand the whole species. So with this explanation, Thor would’ve just had maybe a Flora Colossi as a teacher, who once their students created a bond with them, the students were now able to understand the whole species.

I wasn’t a huge fan of Antman Quantamania and I did not like how Darren Cross got his redemption arc, it was just dumb. I just finished watching the movie, and this has got to be the only Marvel movie that has gotten me this close to tears. It was so well executed as a send-off the Guardians of the Galaxy. Rocket's backstory was so well done. And even though he wasn't as prominent as I thought he was going to be in the movie, I really enjoyed Adam Warlock and what they did with. The humor was also really well placed throughout the movie, and most of it landed really well as well. Overall, I think this is definitely going in my top 10 Marvel movies, maybe even top 5, and I would give it a 9.5/10

I just saw it this afternoon & loved the storylines & The Lore! (as MatPat would say). So much going on with all the characters. Actually Groot talking at the end was funny (& I figured it is supposed to be the audience understanding like Gamora) but yeah Gamora suddenly understanding him just before that made me laugh so hard. Rocket's hearbreaking backstory was sadder than I expected, but it definitely explains his character. The 2000s iconic song definitely wasn't iconic. It's a cover of a decades old song. But then I thought maybe that was the point, that for the Guardians to go forward they have to go back to the past metaphorically. (Yeah, had to get the metaphor reference in for Drax.) ❤

Yeah I definitely like the aspect of Rocket originally in some way only embracing the “manufactured” and darkness of himself only going by Rocket.
