GUATEMALA CITY, GUATEMALA - Welcome to Guatemala City, Central America, and today we’ll be going on an ultimate Guatemalan street food tour - eating some of the best food in the entire city!
Mercado Central, Guatemala City - We’re starting this street food tour at Mercado Central (Central Market) to check out all the amazing produce and especially avocados as this bustling colorful market in the center of the city. The avocados were delicious and the fresh fruits were amazing. We ate some delicious Guatemalan antojitos as Refacciones Doña Mela, Guatemala City and some adobada and beef soup at Comedor Angelica, Guatemala City.
Cevicheria Los Chavos, Guatemala City (goo.gl/maps/nHTcpFTNXuXiDbdJA) - After some sightseeing about Guatemala City, we then headed to Cevicheria Los Chavos for a unique Guatemala City style ceviche made with some surprising ingredients - like worcestershire sauce and ketchup!
Hot Dogs Ejecutivos el Chino, Guatemala City - Now we’re moving on to the the most famous Guatemalan street food - the shucos or Guatemalan crazy hot dogs literally! This is one of the places that started it all - everything is grilled over fire and there about a dozen meats and toppings that go on. It’s a huge celebration of a hot dog all in one bun, everything chopped and layered perfectly. It was very tasty, and I especially loved the layers of guacamole avocado.
Shucos Campo Marte - Finally another Guatemala City street food gem is Shucos Campo Marte where there’s half a dozen stalls are serving roadside shucos and the trans-metro - a huge bus sized hot dog!

In the rest of the world (as far as I know), you either have absolute cleanliness like Japan but not the vibrancy, or the other way round, very vibrant, but inevitably looks a bit "dirty", like Bangkok. So this video is an absolute eye-opener for me. And I think how they can keep it this way is they are doing the best kind of "diversity" - not through forced immigration (I see all people are of the the same ethic origin from the video) and stupid ideology, but through an organic process of absorbing the best from other cultures (you can see it from their food alone).

@@clifford4393 In Guatemala there is a lot of diversity. There are areas with black people, near the coast. There are indigenous people, mestizos, white people, etc. You have a little bit of everything and we live in the same places and enjoy the same food. We are currently suffering a migration crisis, in which many South Americans come on their way to the USA and some Salvadoran thugs who flee from Bukele and settle here. It is starting to be a problem too, added to the gangs that still exist in this country.

Guatemala, always has been clean; it’s their culture. In the old old days, used to be known as the “tacita the plata” or “silver tea cup”…! Because of its cleanliness…! The food, is Mayan origin, and also a blend of Spanish and Mayan cuisine..!!! The Spaniards brought spices and other ingredients… and took back chocolate and other items..!! Corn is king in Guatemalan cuisine.,, there are innumerable dishes and drinks made with corn and made for centuries…!!! Nothing is casual and new..!! Except your Italian, Chinese, French, Asian, cuisine..!!! Guatemala is not that well known to the world, but it is well known to the Guatemalan people, and that’s all it matters…!!

Well Pablo needs a little bit more knowledge this Central market was the first cementary of Guatemala City up to this day there are some people still bury there, the Dona Mela has close to 50 years of servicing customer, and the hot dogs are call shucos, plus the market is behind the cathedral and one block away from the Presidential House

Te he visto por todo el mundo, empecé a seguirte en tus viajes por Pakistán, Irán, la India, etc. Creí que difícilmente vendrías por acá, mi tierra guatemalteca es hermosa, ojalá hayas podido visitar el interior de la república. Nuestro país es muy pequeño, pero sorprendentemente nuestra biodiversidad es enorme. Tenemos muchos microclimas, especies de flora y fauna endémicas, nuestra cultura es una de las más ricas de América Latina. Nuestra población cuebta con 25 etnias, de ellas 22 son mayas, 1 Xinca, 1 garífuna y los ladinos o mestizos. Hay mucho que conocer: Tikal en Petén (entre muchos lugares de ese bello departamento); Río Dulce, Livingstone, Quiriguá en Izabal; Semuc Champey y los biotopos en Las Verapaces, Antigua Guatemala en Sacatepéquez, Chichicastenango en Quiché; Los Cuchumatanes en Huehuetenango; la costa del Pacífico como Monterrico en Santa Rosa; entre muchísimos lugares más. I love my Guatemala. I was just there 2 weeks ago, I did not want to come back to the us. The food is amazing, I remember that Mercado when I was little I wish I had more time to go back there and try the food once again. And not be so much in a rush like I was. Hope you enjoyed our Guatemala with the most amazing people, delicious food and colorful country 🇬🇹🩵🤍🩵

Tacos are not Guatemalan food it’s Mexican from central Mexico invented by the Aztecs and the Michelada drinks are also Mexican from the norther region.

Well I translated that pretty good. He's happy to see that you're showing all the good foods of his country. He sees food stuff in Tostitos (celviche ) instead of tamales the good meats, and The joy it brings him knowing your showcasing his heritage..... He's loving it 💖 Also all the food; He never saw so much food look so good 👍 Thanks you for visiting his homeland...ect. All I know is I'm hungry now 😋.

Its true, the central plaza's are a really cool feature of many towns in Central America. Its always nice to sit in the evening and get a slice of local life. I miss Guatemala, such a beautiful country full of warm and lovely people.

@@paultinajero9733the is no originals. Mexico and Guatemala share similar gastronomy since we were part os Mesoamérica. Mexican tamales goes in a corn leave and Guatemala goes in plátano leaves..

Mexico and Guatemala have been two brother countries, together they have had and shared similarities in their people, their culture and typical foods are almost the same, as if it were Mexico's younger brother... Also in terms of ancestry, many people from there have family both in Mexico and both in Guatemala and too Mayans

I feel like in the USA with all the Amazon Prime & Grocery Delivery services we lose some of the community that comes along with the food markets like you find in Guatemala, Central America, SE Asia, and other parts of the world. Everyone coming together to buy the things they need feels like such an interesting (and maybe important?) part of human connection that we're missing out on in the US! Love Guatemala! Absolutely can't wait to go back in January! 🇬🇹

The steamed carrots with the tostadas to pick up the vegetables and dip into the soup. And, the tortillas with all the fresh tomatoes. I remember having one at a stall. So fresh. Nice video.

It is indeed a place where the local cuisine is so good, it's like a taste bud adventure with its own passport. It's a place where street vendors whip up culinary magic on curbsides, and you'll find more flavors per square meter than most food courts. I remembered the quick visit I've done in Guatemala for our TV show and it is indeed worth visiting.
