GUERLAIN SANTAL ROYAL PERFUME REVIEW

I blind bought this and loved this on first sniff! This was my first rose and I've loved rose ever since. I haven't worn it in a few years and I definitely need to get back to it.

This perfume is a journey, complex and incredible, so many levels to it which I have never experience with any perfume before, agree it's definitely loud. Bought it for my nephew who loves oud. Bought the oud essential for my niece which she said she liked, unfortunately I did not get to try that one so can't comment on it.

Great that you are open to sharing a long, complex journey with the work of Guerlain with Thierry Wasser as the nose. Makes me wonder about my grandparents home, the wooden dusty shed, wood stove and rose garden. This is my Father's Day present to myself. Worn Dior Sauvage for weeks in Melbourne winter, it used to be screetchy as Eugene described, though became like a household member. Makes me wonder how it is for people to have the experience of smelling bold, rich, high-quality fragrances since birth, rather than breaking through to acquire a strong fragrance heart much later.

Great review Eugen always enjoy hearing your thoughts on fragrance glad you made a review for this. I have a soft perfume heart so this probably wouldn’t work for me. Lol 😂 I’ll just stick to the fine French fragrances. I did get the H24 edt from Hermes and I don’t know for me it’s pretty loud and harsh but maybe that’s just me and I’ll come around to it. I thought my tester was bad, or went bad. I bought encens mythique and I adore it. Maybe I should retest this out.

I actually fell in love with this one at first sniff. I immediately bought a back up too. And i have a few 10ml decants I’m using. I bought 4 from this line. And as it’s macerated it’s even better . Ambre Eternel is another one I loved at first sniff and I bought a back up . Hard to find it now.

Great review Eugen. I have Ombre Nomad which is almost too loud for me so my bottle's gonna last a hundred years - so I don't think I'll be getting Santal Royal but I'm def gonna sniff it in the shop

I remember smelling the original Santal Royal back in 2016 and despising it due to the strong sharp rose oud apple combo. These days they've mellowed it out and it smells more "even", the oud is also more of a cedar while the apple is barely discernible. It's still not my favourite and I much prefer both Encens Mythique and Bois Mysterieux but they've definitely made it better.

I love Santal Royale. I need to add this to my collection. Do you consider Guerlain a niche house?

When Santal Royle first came out the rose smelled like a fruity jam, the jasmine was indolic & fecal, the sandalwood smelled of pencil shavings. Now I don’t know if it’s been reformulated but it smells like a woody scented candle

Guerlain boutique liked to push this one on me and like you i grew to liking it

I do love Middle Eastern style perfumes as I live in a cooler climate , my favourite style of perfumery

OMG! You're so handsome! Sorry, had to say it. I'm melting. O.K., what's your favorite woody, smoky scent of all time? I'm not a perfume wearer but would like to try just one. Guerlain is THE perfumer par excellence so I found this video.

Horrendous perfume this one. I really can’t stand it. (Well I can’t wear it at least) I know I’ve defended the Oud one from this line, which is pretty bad as well if I’m honest, but this I can’t abide. It’s complex I give it that and to smell it for a few minutes I can get something positive from it, but it’s soooo obnoxious and strong and wears you down. I felt this is like a better, more complex version of that Acqua di Parma Oud one.
