I got 10 right, the others were compleatly unknown to me. I was always waiting for Sibelius and Brahms, but did never come.

I guessed Mahler, Beethoven and Dvorak correctly and I also identified the styles of Shostakovitsh, Prokofiev, Haydn and Mozart (I also suspected Bruckner a little but I only know the 2nd, the 4th and the 8th).

In order not to cause confusion with Schubert and his symphony, which has different numbers in numerous videos of concerts on RU-vid, I had to slightly remake the video and upload it again. Thanks for understanding! And thanks to the user www.youtube.com/@grahamfisher307 for the tip! And here is the crux of the problem: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-onyN4VcqoQs.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zSnMNrzysrw.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-n2VsutqOCa4.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Ue76WS6YkOY.html Conclusion: It is necessary to check not only the sources, but also the numbering methods!

I recognised it as what I know as No. 7 instantly. I have never understood how there could be any other numbering method than the one UNIVERSALLY adopted when I was a teenager many years ago.

I’ve never heard no 7 being called anything else. It’s best to give D numbers. The unfinished is confusingly called 7 in Germany but the E major symphony is now published and performed more. Last week I listened to it with the score of what Schubert actually wrote and I could see it is actually complete. Brian Newbould’s version doesn’t really add anything but fills in the gaps

The Bach, Scarlatti and Milhaud got me. The Schubert was unfair, because that is not an official finished Symphony, but I recognized that it was Schubert. The rest I knew.

I found your channel for the first time a few days ago, and I showed it to my husband. We both love classical music and we have had fun trying your quizzes! We haven’t tried all of them just yet, but we will eventually. I am an American, and my husband is Japanese. We live in Japan. It’s fun to meet someone from Russia! Keep up the good work, and thank you for your interesting and challenging quizzes!

The C P E Bach is only the first of a set of four, not his first symphony. I’m not sure if A Scarlatti belongs here as he is pre-classical and this symphony is more of a baroque overture or sinfonia.

I came here to say that too for both pieces, the Scarlatti is 'Sinfonie di concerto grosso' in C major ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-skptnSbb24k.html. The Bach sounded way to big, I'm not used to hearing it that way!

9 correct (composer+number) 1 only composer 5 wrong But, really, who knows the symphonies by A. Scarlatti, C.P.E. Bach, D. Milhaud or Myaskovsky? They are not in the standard repertoire... And early Haydn/Mozart are also very little known - but I managed to guess right this time.

Thanks for your feedback. This is truly a test for experts and I try to add unfamiliar ones to the 10-12 well-known composers. And it turns out that there are lovers of the classics who not only listened to them, but even performed them themselves. Incredible))

Bach's symphonies are a bit tricky with counting. You have the Hamburg symphonies, the Berlin symphonies, the orchestra symphonies and the “normal” symphonies.

I know the C.P.E Bach one. It's his most played symphony. Experienced classical listeners often explore beyond the standard symphonic repertoire to various degrees looking for hidden gems, or just coming across stuff outside the standard repertoire occassionally without seeking them out.

@@adiosmusictest There are very very few professional conductors who could identify something like the Scarlatti or the Milhaud, and they can be considered experts - your use of the term is not really apt.
@anewman1976

1:46 While Alessandro Scarlatti is famous for his operas, the piece (No.2 on the list) is not a symphony but rather one of his 'Sinfonie di concerto grosso'. It's a common misconception, as it shares similarities with the symphony genre, but it's a distinct type of instrumental work popular during the Baroque period. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-skptnSbb24k.html

@ITBahren 2 месяца назад
The unfinished is the 8th, not the 7th
@laggeman1396
@laggeman1396 2 месяца назад
@@ITBahren There is a great confusion about the numbering.... The b minor (unfinished) has been no 7, 8 and 9. The great C major has been numbered 7, 8, 9 and 10. Nowadays musicologists actually give the unfinished no 7 and the C major no 8! But the "traditional no 7" is an uncompleted work in E major, which is very little known and played. So I wonder if the sound clip maybe is from that work, because I don't recognise the music from either the unfinished or the great C major...

I learn about such details largely thanks to comments, such as Giazotto was author of Adagio, not Albinoni. Or that Dvorak's 9th symphony was also the 5th. It's the same with Schubert's 7th symphonies))
