So I sort of like my dual screen Aspen Pro set up, but too many Check Target Att messages, leading to inaccurate heading display on the HSI. Plus the screens run very hot.

Integrated Avionics (Your Software Avionics) are Good. The Pilot can be a Navigator as Well as a Pilot. That's Harder to Do with Old Style Gauges (Altimeter, IAS).

Your Avionics are Running Software. Software is Not as Reliable as Hardware. The Autopilot is Hardware: Transistor - Transistor Logic. Reliable as a PLC. Programmable Logic controller. The Flight Director and Your Avionics Run Software (They're More Complex). Software Fails because the CPU is Running Very Fast. Noise Corrupts the Very Fast Circuits or the RAM (Memory). The Reason, They Crash (Randomly). Transistor, Transistor Logic is Slower and More Reliable. The Reason the Autopilot is a Separate system from the Flight Director. Old Style Gauges (Altimeter, Indicated Air Speed) - They Don't Rely on Semiconductor Sensors, That Fail Unpredictably. Old Style Gauges (Altimeter, Indicated Air Speed) Get worn Out in a Predictable Manner.
