What a wonderful visit we had this week! Plus we revisit our archaeological investigations and plant a gigantic rose.
We are Marc, Amy, Clement and Juliette, a French-English family restoring a 33 room medieval chateau and huge estate in southern France. Follow our award-winning, historically-sensitive restorations and our journey towards self-sufficiency and sustainability, with plenty of laughter along the way.

Thank you! We’re always being told that you should cut the intros on RU-vid channels because it makes people turn off if they can’t skip it. But I sort of feel that our intro is so ‘us’ that if they’re out off by it then they wouldn’t enjoy the rest of the video either!!!

I loved watching this! The stonework through the the château inside and out is stunningly beautiful. It was very interesting hearing about the links with Lyon university, the imaging and digging for tunnels with both of your background knowledge. Your animals really love & trust you the way they follow you around. When you walked around the outside to let out the chickens, it showed the scale and breathtaking beauty of not only the château but the autumn leaves turning yellow. Loved the picturesque walk settling Juliet in her pram, picking the vegetables for dinner and chatting with Stephanie and Philip at the end. I felt transported to spending time at your amazing château!

Have you considered getting 'witching' expert in to walk your property and locate underground geographical features like, underground water courses, wires, pipes, and perhaps tunnels? It is old time method used to locate and find stuff underground. Skilled users of 'witching' with willow branches or wire rods can detect these resources and based on experience and the pull of the rod even estimate fairly accurately how deep below the surface said features can be found. My grandmother had tried for 50 years to find water with well digging and even drilling with various companies on her farmstead without success but much cost. Another farmer heard of this and suggested she call 'so and so' who was a skilled 'witcher' of water before she spent large sums yet again to put in another well. The 'witcher' walked the property locating a number of anomalies of varying strengths and depths that he reported to home owner, who then identified some as existing buried utilities or old structures, but the 'witching' expert located underground water courses also, with varying strengths and marked them and explained the likely depth and strength of each water course. using this advice a well was dug that produced abundant water for many decades and finally my grandmother's farm had reliable clean drinking water for indoor plumbing. As I understand it, there are ''water witching' clubs in Europe that continue to pass down this ancient skill to new generations. Skilled witchers can also use their skill to locate other targets beneath the soil and their use of the skill is highly intriguing to witness. I was a skeptic before seeing it for myself, but the proof was in his ability to locate so much buried mater on granny's old farm without prompting from her. She stayed in the house for most of the day and the 'witcher' reported his finds to a younger generation of the family unaware of some of the hidden items below the earth that were only confirmed by my granny at the end of the search, as she was alive and well when utility cables, old wells, and even old outhouses had been in service but later closed off and hidden but were identified by the 'witcher' while he searched for water sources. A low tech solution that might be interesting to try, witness, and test out on your property. Just talk to some of the 'old timers' living in the area and ask them if such a person exists locally to give it a try.

I love the cat ! There are chateaux without animals , soulless ! I was weeding in my garden which is part of the old city walls. I smashed down a garden fork and there was hollow sound.
