Gotta admit, I did find this channel through the "bad card game" videos, but all the content you guys make are really entertaining. Thanks for always making me laugh :D
For the record, on the types of cards in the TCG: Fairy Type was introduced around Gen 6’s time, but was discontinued around the time of Gen 8. So all fairy types are made into Paychics or Normals. The trade off is that there would be more type diversity, in that sometimes Poison types in the game would be classed Dark or Grass types now.
About your questions : If I recall correctly, the Hypno's effect does put both Active Pokémon asleep, I believe it was used with a Snorlax and other builds that want negative effects. Regarding the Pokémon types, there is a Fairy and Dragon Pokémon type in the TCG.
They added Dragon in Gen 5, removed it in Gen 7, then added it again in Gen 8 Fairy was added in Gen 6 and removed in Gen 8 So all the Dragon types have no weakness, and all Fairy Pokémon are Psychic types in the TCG now
PLEASE do Duel Masters videos! Duel Masters is actually still getting new cards in Japan as far as I know, unlike in the US where we only got sets for a few years. So you could do quizzes either on the classic cards you guys vaguely remember, AND you could also do videos where you'd have to guess things about the cards we never got here in the west.
The pokemon cardgame removed fairy and they contemplated removing dragon along with it, but they decided against it. The problem was that they didn't want fairy and poison to be in the same colour, So they put fairy in with psychic and then moved poison from psychic to dark, Making poison the only type to be moved multiple times (as it was moved from grass to psychic years earlier)
Picking between which is the worst between the Pokemon and Yugioh card games is kinda hard since unchecked power creep has ruined both, and neither really started on a foundation of good rules and mechanics. But I think Yugioh ends up being worse overall just because it's so overly complicated. There's a lot of little minor rules that can constantly trip you up, and each card has a whole paragraph of text even if they are awful and do practically nothing. Even Yugioh content creators can't defend how nonsensical the game is. At least with Pokemon, even though it suffers from plenty of problems, it is still easy to play, even if you come back to it years later.
Low Key actually, a Balatro Quiz, based on guessing what ability certain jokers have, would be kinda fun considering some of the Joker effects in that game are pretty interesting or unique, assuming obviously you guys dont have too much pre-existing Balatro knowledge of course.
The reason why it doesn't do direct damage is that it goes through resistances. That doesn't mean it's a good card. I'm just saying why. Also please do a sentai/kamen rider quiz! Love your videos.
@Griffthelazy Kamen rider is fun only have finish giam or something I think it was called. For sure I finished the one where the main character have space rocket punch than I started the fruit juice series. Is there a website I can watch all Kamen riders? Oh ya guess it would give that last damage you need with out worrying about resistance hm would plus defense block the damage?
I love Duel Masters, I still collect the cards. It is so expensive and difficult to find, but between my childhood collecting and adult buying, I have over half of the cards by now. Which is definitely the most different cards of anyone in Denmark, maybe even in all of Europe. I hope to see a Duel Masters Name Quiz someday. They are so ridiculous, it's amazing.
14:04 Mirror shot didn't exist before generation 4, but forretress gets it from gen 4 until gen 8 when they removed mirror shot all together. I guess he was looking before or after the move existed? Forretress IS one of the 5 pokemon that got mirror shot in gen 4, so it's synonymous with forretress as a Pokémon!
yugioh is convoluted as frick, but i still like it the most out of all TCGs (Digimon follows right behind it). I really dislike the Pokemon TCG mechanics, but the artworks are pretty nice. I mean they even revived van Gogh just to design a Pokemon card 20:16
As someone who played Duel Masters and ran a Light Civilization control deck focusing mostly on Guardians and Angel Commands, I am pleased with being repped by a member of the cast. As for favorite tcg it used to be Magic the Gathering but that eventually got way out of control and I stopped back in like 2018
Aegislash from the same set has two attacks 3C for "Painful Sword" which doubles all damage on all opponent's pokemon 2P2C for "Megaton Slash" which deal 100 to active and 10 to two in the opponent's bench
REALLY hard to tell which is worse. Pokemon TCG has this big issue where it is insanely difficult to build a deck with consistent performance, because so many cards have their effects, and sometimes even damage, dictated by coin flips. Your success or failure, more often than not, can be dictated, not by skill, but by luck. Meanwhile, Yu-Gi-Oh, in its modern incarnation, has become so fast-paced that, if you have a meta-deck, you can FTK anyone, provided you win the initial coin-flip. And those end-game boards can take several minutes of play to set-up IN A SINGLE TURN. Takes all the fun out of the strategy and the back and forth.
also your deck can basically not run properly based on the 1/10 probability of prizing badly. Like me back playing Gardevoir Sylveon. I prized all my Ralts, so had to make Sylveon the attacker
I've never played the actual Duel Masters card game, but it had a PS2 game that I adored and I played it to death. I'd love to see a quiz for either Duel Masters or Bakugan, I love both series!!
@EmeraldFur709 the GBA Duel Master I enjoyed there was also a fun online website for its Remake series Kaijudo Duel Master. Which was Duel Master trying to come back. The Cartoon was pretty fun since kids got there partner monster like you would for digimon but it played just like Duel Master. The Website was fun since you can make your own deck with cards you win on the website. The Ps2 one could be janky but ya it was a fun one I like in the GBA one you can battle folks to win booster packs. More card games should do that if they are base on real card games.
"We haven't done a Pokemon video on this channel...this entire year..." Well if the Fusion shorts, which are pretty fun, are counted, this is entirely wrong.
About the favorite card game. The Digimon cards are pretty legit (both old and new ones). The gameplay is ok, nothing to write home about, just ok. But the art on the cards is goated.
I am 1,000,000% behind a Duel Masters Quiz! I have a pile of the old Base set cards and have had to play against myself with them forever. Also, fuck that Ben-10-ified BS "Kaijudo Masters" reboot. Genuine trash. They still make cards in Japan, but they went the way of YGO; became rapidly overly complicated and made most cards older then the last release useless. Absolutely disappointing anymore.
With the question about which card game is better, I think Pokémon is better with the art, but I like Yu-Gi-Oh's gameplay a lot more because of the interaction. Overall, I think YGO is better tho. Also, Bakugan quiz would be peak.
The best card game has got to be Duel Masters and would love for it to get a quiz. Also, mildly sad that even with all the cards with innuendos the best Pokemon TCG attacks weren't included, that being the Aerodactyl that for some reason has Power Blow and Speed Stroke.
Hell fucking yeah, jazzed to see another Pokemon video come along. I'll watch whatever you guys put out even if I don't know the property but I also am glad to see the classics return.
For The Engagement™, my favorite card game is Magic the Gathering, though I invested a lot into the old Dragon Ball Super card game. It had a neat function where every card could be energy, so it avoided the trap of having hands without any actual ability to play them. I ended up getting out when it became obvious they didn't want to support older decks, just make you buy a new one every set because the cards all had specific interactions with only that set (like saying you can search for a red Krillin and the new set has the only red Krillin or something). I haven't looked at the Same But Different game Fusion World, which is like an OCG/TCG kinda thing.
Oooh, that energy system sounds excellent. My long-standing issue with MtG has always been the Lands system. The first hand is already important enough, I shouldn’t also have to worry about even being able to play any cards on top of that haha (I still had a great time playing low power commander with my friends)
It's extremely simple too, you play it upside down and it is now energy. They produce whatever their card color is, multicolor cards produce either. There's even a few cards that make specific cards count as other colors when used for energy so you can play cards you don't technically have energy set for. It felt very good, and still made you choose which card in your hand is best sacrificed for the sake of the others.
I would love a tournament themed after one of these cards. Marketed based on it and then after everyone has submitted their decks, just ban the card that it’s themed on.
18:58 Yugioh, easily. The meta is basically "whoever stops their opponent from existing the longer wins" and that's boring. At least in Pokemon TCG there's a real interaction between the players.
Here's a idea do a pokedex quiz where you just grab pokedex entry for a pokemon and they have to guess what pokemon it is because there's alot of crazy and creepy pokedex entries in pokemon games
I also did like Duel Masters growing up, unfortunately it was discontinued in the west. I remember really enjoying that old video game that was super fun, and the anime was also pretty good!
Wasn’t expecting this one, but this is a welcome surprise! If you need some obscure card games for quizzes, there’s Chaotic, a fantastic game. And Redakai, a much less fantastic game…
Dual Masters is like number 3 in Japan so there's plenty of people who know and love duel masters, just Wizards totally botched it in the West, but my favorite TCG is Cardfight Vanguard
My favorite card games are Yu-Gi-Oh!, Cardfight Vanguard, and Future Card Buddyfight. Also would love to see a Bakugan quiz, you could do a whole quiz on Dragonoid's evolutions with how many times he's evolved.
I still have sad thoughts about the World of warcraft tcg being cancelled within a month of me dropping like $400 on cards. Worst is yugioh by an infinite amount of space. Pokemon never took structure deck cards and made them chase rares when they brought them overseas.
To answer the call of fueling the comments, as an MTG-head who started with Yu-Gi-Oh! and Pokémon: Yu-Gi-Oh! is worse. Far less fun, and literally drove me into a game that manages to be prohibitively expensive every few years, sometimes it manages that in a few months. Pokémon I more or less just grew out of as a franchise. Edit: I have real soft spot for Duel Masters, since it was the one card game on any console that worked while being the same as the actual cards. I also blame it for giving me a taste for Magic.
I've heard of Duel Masters but never played it, I only watched the anime of it MANY years ago. I don't really have a favorite card game, but I do know how to play Pokemon, Yugioh, and Magic The Gathering and can't really say I hate any of them, but do really enjoy the art on many of the cards.
@DragonzPWNU I enjoyed the GBA ones never got to the isakai part of the 2ed game but enjoyed the first one. I enjoy when card Games let's you get booster packs from winning.
It’s a perfect match even! Most of the names of the Bakugan could be gleaned by the toy’s details. Ones like Dragonoid, Tigrerra, and Harpus are good examples. Then there’s names like Lars Lion and Brontes that come out of nowhere.
Not liking the Pokémon TCG or Yu-Gi-Oh is completely fair, honestly- both suffer from horrendous power creep these days. Now, you know what card game DOESN'T have horrendous power creep? A niche little franchise called Culdcept- because the last game was released on the 3DS, we can't even play it online anymore and the devs have more or less gone radio silent as to whether or not we'll ever see another game! Our fanbase is hanging on by a thread. Please send help.
i picked forest dump cause it could be like a mill ability then i realized pokemon cards only have 1 ability and its the one on the top. i didnt play the game much
While I've pretty much lost all interest in Pokemon for awhile now, and find it to just be the most boring Monster Collection franchise to talk about, this was still a very entertaining video. Do whatever videos you guys want to do. It's sure to be a good time whatever it is.
