What I like about Ornn and Volbear themes is how they constrat each others' lyrics. Volibear calls you to battle, so you can reclaim what you want by force, which makes sense considering he's literally a war god. However, he's insistent. The song literally says "Valhir (Volibear) calls you, and the wild heart within" and "When Valhir (Volibear) needs you to answer the call". He wants you to embrace his philosophy, and battle in his name. He wants you to hear his call. Ornn, however, doesn't want you to come at him, but he knows you will want to someday, and even if he seems grumpy and distant, he has a kind heart. So instead, his song is a map. Not a call for those who hear, but a riddle for those who listen. And even if time erased a lot of what he has done, if there's at least one who accept his way of helping, it may be enough.
@@battlebrother178 I think in the song Voli is referred as Vorrijaard, not as Valhir. Maybe, when the song says"Vorrijaard, Valhir", it tries to say "The god Volibear" (I know It isn't written like that, but neither I know how to write it)

Ornn is like that lone old man in the neigborhood. He is grumpy and would often shut people out. He leaves sarcastic remarks when you talk to him. He would scold you if you touch his stuff. But once you get to know him, he is kind hearted and very generous.
I won't lie, I'm not all the way through the video yet so there's a slim chance you mention this, but Ornn's creations are so powerful a fork he created is being used as a trident to rule the seas and a door he made is used as a shield in actual combat by another character. (Which is Braum, yeah.)
To be fair, doors are supposed to be durable. Whether they're stronger than a shield depends on their purpose. If it was for keeping people who seek him out, then it would be stronger than a shield meant for a human to carry.
Ornn: I made this hammer, it was so good I named it "hammer" His hammer isn't just a unique hammer or special one, it is THE first hammer ever crafted in Runeterra. All others are just imitations of his work. Ornn's craft is so legendary. Once, he made a fork to eat cherry. Later, he threw it into the ocean, centuries past, that fork became the single most powerful weapon of the underwater people. Ornn crafted a vault door to protect the greedy troll's treasure, it is so strong that it outlast the troll and the mountain itself and now being used as a shield.
Fun Fact the singer is actually a cannon character called Layka she was one of the singers that traveled the freljord keeping their traditions alive. And she was also another Champion Mother, Nunu.
Ornn is very unique. He's the only god (well technically demi-god) in the League lore that doesn't ask for worship or followers. He just wants to be left alone so he can forge in peace. This made the fact that he did have followers (the Hearthblood) very special to him. He saw himself in them. They didn't make their presence known to the whole world. They didn't treat it like a cult all about divinity and purpose. They just shared his passion and they were good at it too. While he never expressed his true feelings to them, he really cared for them. Them being wiped out in his battle with Volibear devastated him and caused him to he even more of a recluse than before. Even though there is a new Hearthblood, he doesn't want it now. "In your name I have rekindled the Hearthblood." "Let the name die boy, it means nothing now." Also the reason for Ornn and Volibear's battle was because Volibear approached Ornn one day and asked him to make the best weapons for his own followers. Ornn refused saying he had no interest in his brother's affairs. And Volibear doesn't take no for an answer. They proceeded to engage in an earth shaking battle that the unfortunate Hearthblood were in the crossfire of.
Volibear was a dumb god, he should have lied and tell Ornn to make tons of dinning knives for him and his followers, so Ornn unintentionally makes tons of world-shattering greatswords.

An extra bit of lore is that according to Legends of Runeterra, there’s people in the modern day trying to revive the spirit of the Hearthblood, or at least as they understand it. fun fact about the Ornn teaser theme: Christine Hals sung this as Nunu's mother, Layka. The lore behind this is a bit complicated but very interesting. When their caravan was attacked by raiders, Nunu was separated from his mother and has hope that she is still alive somewhere.
Man, I remember seeing the Ornn Teaser for the first time. It was amazing, especially bscause it was the first time they started to "make a language", which really added to the ambience. Like, it was just nordic languages mashed together tp be Freljordian, but it still set the right tone and vibe. They used the same technique with Volibear and the new champion K'Sante, but with more African inspired language and music.
I feel like the best way to describe Ornn as a character is "Tsundere Grandpa". He has that very caring nature to him as well as that tough love feeling that comes from all of his past experiences. I can imagine him grilling at the family barbeque and not really saying much but cracking a smile whenever he sees the family get along and laughing together.
Ornn has a part in the cinematic "The Call" where you may find similarities with the humming and the calmness of his character forging weapons signifying a new war coming soon.
I like how in the lyrics to the song, they noted his lore with the Howling Abyss. In the second verse, it talks about a 'fathomless pit' and and a frozen bridge. There are so many myths and legends around Ornn even within the game itself. It's so cool.
One thing I noticed that you didn't mention, was a feeling of brotherhood. In the baseline, it sounded like there was a line of blacksmiths that all hit their hammers at the same time and grunt/shouted. It kind of had that same vibe as the rowers from those old galley boats.
Gotta thank you, for your channel in general. Because of these types of videos I started paying a lot closer attention to music too and have noticed more of the beauty within (going past "this sounds nice") I hope more people can learn that from you .
Oh man, I got SO excited to see this in my subscription feed. Ornn is one of my absolute favorites in League lore, just because they nail the feeling of the SCALE of a massive hearth/smith god as well as his immense yet stoic, calmer power. The theme is just fantastic with the rising intensity and the chorus of voices grunting with every swing of that constant hammer, and the vocal version is just as lovely. So glad you got to learn about him and hear his music!

I don't think I've seen anyone talk about this one but I would really enjoy it if you reacted to Diana's theme from LoL. It's a very old theme but it's one of my favourites.
I'm happy you got to cover Ornn! His theme is really underrated. As someone who mains the Forge God in PH (he's RARELY used here), I appreciate your analysis on my favorite goat man. Listening to his theme fills me with peace and that there's goodness in solitude imo.
Great reaction and analysis as always. The story of Ornn is tragic and evokes a lot of empathy, for even in his stoicism he perhaps cares the most for his followers even if he wont admit it. Also the vocal in the teaser has a certain quality that reminds me of my early childhood, when my mother would sit down with me and tell me an old story or sing me a tune her mother sang to her. Cant wait for you to rip into Aurelion Sol, he is a hell of a personality!
One thing to add about Ornn's recent lore as told by Legends of Runeterra cards. Even though the Hearthblood had been destroyed long ago, there are those who've heard about them and decide to follow their path. And now, there are those people who have "rekindled the Hearthblood" and the Hearthblood lives again. Hearthblood Mender: "In your name, I have rekindled the Hearthblood." Ornn: "Let the name die, boy. It means nothing anymore."
I do not know why, but Ornn and his theme reminds me of the tale of Prometheus.He basically gave people of Freljord fire! He is that caregiver, that steady hand that shapes. Also, in the card game LoR (Legends of Runeterra) there are a couple of cards that are Hearth-Born (not entierly sure tho). They actually have interactions with Ornn in game!
Wonderful reaction as always, Marco! Freljord is one of my favorite regions precisely because of how amazing their mythos are and how much of a sense of wonder they bring, and Ornn is a perfect embodiment of that. I highly recommend you take a look at Lissandra's theme for that same sense of wonder, but from a rather different perspective.
Phenomenal content. IDK why but seeing you geek out over this music (especially how excited you got when the backing vocals kicked in in the teaser theme) is so wholesome. You're definitely my favourite youtuber ATM. You just can't get this kind of stuff anywhere else.
The beauty of this is that everyone grasps different things in the themes. For me, his theme is representing Ornn forging, you hear the hums and the hammer but around the end it intensifies as he's finishing up and then the final touch at the end.
One of the thing that come to my mind while listening with you was how it imitates the HearthBloods gathering at Ornn's location. It starts with a humming, Ornn crafts by himself, and then more and more sounds, instruments, musicality come by, to an organised harmony. They came, and everything was good.

He also has a nice Teaser and a video called 'the feats of Braum' (if I remember this right). I would love a 'Who is Braum' video.

Eyyy my favorite forgeboi. Ornn is also related to a much older champ, anivia, who is also a god of the freljord. Also one more who hasn’t really been revealed in the lore yet. Ornn lost most of his following when he refused to make weapons and armor for volibear and his armies as the result of their clash. As such he stays solitary in his forge in the mountains. He also never compliments his own work, because the last time he did, it ended up burning down. Though not by his own fault.
This is my first time seeing a video in your channel, I really like runeterra and it's characters. League of legends music it's incredible and it's really cool watching someone doing the content you do and the way you do it. Really appreciated it
Thank you for the video!) I think it's good to know that quite often champions can be changed, and a lot of the times changed a lot. Starting from abilities, ending with character concepts and lore. It's more common for older champions though, and usually if a champion is changed completely they will have a new musical theme too. But lorewise a lot can happen, so the best source for a up to date lore is Universe for sure

Ornn is an interesting charcter. There is a bunch of "legends" about him that riot created. And they show exactly what you got from music. Ornn is stoic and calm and you surely don't wanna mess with him. He knows how to get back on offenders.
If you have time, please react to Yoricks theme! Yorick isn't a popular champion by any means, but he is personally my favourite champion from his lore to his gameplay. Yorick also comes from the shadow isles just like Viego and Gwen
Glad you did this! Ornn is my favorite champion in both League of Legends and Legends of Runeterra. If you' re interested in seeing more interactions and character of these champions I would suggest looking at Legends of Runeterra if they are in that game. They do an amazing job of revamping champ lore and give them followers that make them much more compelling. Love these vids, keep up the amazing work!
I am so positively thrilled you reacted to Ornn. One of my favorite characters and first requests after discovering your channel a couple months ago. The tales of the frejlord demi-gods, (the) Volibear, Ornn the Ram, Anivia the Cryo-phoenix, and the iron boar is some of the best lore Runeterra has to offer. It is pronounced kind of like, "fray-lee-yord" if you wanted to know. Keep up the great and wonderful content. Would be cool to see you react to "The call" cinematic since you've heard about pantheon, volibear, and ornn already.
Man sometimes it feels like you've read about him beforehand, in the first part of the video you just nailed everything about him and his personality and history - it's great watching you guess the lore of some of my favourite characters in all of fiction from the music alone
I thought you would never pick the song itself because it is a good music and you nailed his character somehow. You would really see and feel the stark contrast of Ornn and Volibear from the song itself. One is some what similar to a battlesong while the other one is storytelling presented as a song passed down kids during night, sitting down on a snowy mountain with campfire.
The viola like instrument you hear in his theme is the hardingfele (hardanger fiddle in english) an ancient norwegian violin, also the ancient freljordian was invented expressly for the first time for Ornn's teaser and then reused for Volibear's theme and more. if you're ever interested in some extra context/background on some of the characters from runeterra the game legends of runeterra has some GREAT artwork on champions and the people around them. they recently added ornn and it's the first work that depicts him with a human for scale.
Oh, absolutely amazing video as usual! Been waiting for Ornn for a while and you never dissapoint. I can only highly suggest looking at champion quotes videos instead of champion spotlights. They give a better glimpse into the character than gameplay videos.
I'm 4 months late. But I still want to thank you for looking into these themes. Ornn is one of my mains with shen and pantheon. Ornn's entire lore is beautiful as goes to Shen and especially pantheon. I've been wanting people to be more exposed to the game's lore because there is sooo much beauty in it that is worth tapping on to.
No joke, i got tears is my eyes when i first heard Ornn's song. Im Scandinavian, and even though the lyrics is in the fictional Freljordian language, i am able to understand almost have the words, as they sound very much like that of my own language. Even now, everytime i hear that song, i get a bit emotional. Ornn is also one of my favourites characters to play.
Take Evelynn's theme song into consideration pls~ Having a few similarities with one of the characters' theme songs that Mr. Marco listened before, it is pretty good to check out!
I know im really late for you to see this but i think a really giant thing I and i assume many other people would enjoy is you reacting to some of the character voicelines because they bring so much depth and detail to characters that isnt present just from their lore excerpts. And i do understand that this is a music reaction series but hearing your thoughts to waht you assumed versus what you can her from the characters themselves would bring this series to a new high for me atleast. Even though im sad because you covered some of my favourite characters and their themes xD
My favorite thing about the volibear/ornn vocals is that its basically norwegian, but modified and/or made to sound like really old norwegian, so i can understand it either through context or just the way the word is changed

Another little story example: voli's theme is his song for war as sung by a shaman, probable. Ornn's theme isn't his followers singing though. It's him humming the song they used to sing of him... becasue there isn't anyone left to sing his song.

I think an element you didnt touch on that should be noted that the song starts out of time with the hammer strikes. As the song continues though the strikes get closer and closer to the song in time. All the way to the end where its the heart of the beat.
I love playing Ornn! He is definitely a team player (great tools for team fights and upgraded items for everyone), but he also knows how to fight back on his own if he needs to. At some point we will probably listen to my other favorite Champion Gangplank! Very excited about that moment! He even has two songs, because of lore reasons! (Captain Gangplank and Gangplank, the Saltwater Scourge)
I would love to see you react to Lulu and Shaco's quirky encounter since it's not really a champion music but an actual story told through music. It almost feels like a piece from a ballet!
