This happened to me. When I bought my first leopard gecko at Petco they told me repeatedly that bc the crickets were gut loaded that I did not need vitamins or calcium. Of course eventually my Leo started getting MBD and a respiratory infection. I took him to the vet three times over about a 6 week period. I force fed him for the last six weeks as he refused to eat. He died a few days ago and of course I am heart broken. My husband bought me a new Leo from a locally owned pet shop and she's just a small baby - maybe 2-3 weeks. I am feeding her meal worms and crickets dusted with calcium with D3. After watching your video I am going to purchase what you have over Amazon so that I have separate calcium and multi vitamins. So far the new Leo "Sarah Connor" (from Terminator) is very healthy, alert and we are getting to know one another.
When I went to petco for supplies for my gecko, the employ told me that all my gecko needs is calcium d3! Thank you so much for telling me about this! Your videos really help!
The fact that they "cant pay for it" bugs me as while. I'm only 11, and I save every dime I can towards my leopard gecko. If an eleven year old can do it, so can you. Suck it up.
Honestly I think you should get a a lot of thank you's for every thing you do to try and help us and you suceed everything you do for us I've been watching you for a year just for 1 leopard gecko that I got 2 days ago so for that I say THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING!
The pet shop told me that they don't need it and I think my gecko is in an early stage of the disease but today I went and got some so hopefully he'll recover😰
This is really cool, thank you for sharing your knowledge. I think if you're not willing to spend the money to buy vitamin and calcium supplements for your geckos, you have no business owning the reptile. Unless you're 100% financially able to take care of your pets, you shouldn't buy them just so that they can get disfigured due to your neglect to spend money. Do you think lightly dipping the mealworms or crickets in the calcium powder before letting them lose would be beneficial? That way the gecko only gets food dusted with calcium instead of a mouthful and regurgitation.
your channel is SO helpful and awesome! I just recently got a Leopard Gecko and was told to just get calcium and thankfully I came across some of your videos and became aware of this. I'm sixteen and I have been saving up money and I'm able to buy supplements for my gecko Miko. I really want to give him the best life possible. He is my first reptile pet and thank you so much for your videos they have taught me more than I even knew. 😊
your videos are always so helpful ive been researching geckos and other reptiles for years ive always been interested. ive owned a bearded dragon for 3 years and am thinking about getting a gecko now too i am getting one soon and am doing lots more research on top of what i have already done and it always surprises me when reptile owners especially leopard gecko owners have never heard of MBD and dont know how to prevent it which is why i love your videos they are so helpful to those who dont know about this stuff so i tend to either suggest they watch your videos or if i have enough time to tell them do it myself.
This is EXACTLY what I do! Well, almost. I do not use a multi vitamin at all. I use pure calcium 2/3 times a week (on weekdays) and calcium + D3 once a week (on weekends). It would be 5 days calcium 2 days D3 but I feed my gecko every other day, so you can figure out how my schedule works. I do not give multivitamins at all however. Multivitamins, I believe, are just a substitute for gut loading insects - when you think about it, multi vitamins means multiple vitamins and what is in the food that you give your bugs? Multiple vitamins. I think that multi vitamin powders are unnecessary as long as you properly gut load your insects. I have had my leopard gecko for 1 year 7 months and have had no ill effects.
Just carried on watching the video: my female leopard gecko Cleo never ate for four months either! From Christmas until April I was VERY worried so I would pour her powders over her face and she'd lick herself clean, thus ingesting the powders.
These are the most helpful videos ever. I'm planning on getting a leopard geckos soon, and these have Walked me through all the care. I already bought all these vitamins. :)
your videos are very good¡ I'm getting a leopard gecko soon so I'm trying to get the more information I can and your videos are very helpful so I'm subcribing¡ Thanks :3
I just want to thank you I just got my Leopard gecko today and you help so much already with the habitat and I hope you help me in the future. Btw my geckos name is Gizgo. Gizgo is just a baby so I don't know there's gender.
I tell everyone how cheap a Leo is too keep. A little vitamin cost is diddly. Even with little knowledge for 18 years mine has never been sick or in distress. I have changed a lot for her in the last 3 mths of finding your page.. It's never too late too learn and she will have a healthier happier life form here on in.thanks for your videos .. You are amazing
I have a question regarding metabolic bone disease for leopard geckos: Are they more likely of getting it when they are older, or younger? Because I had never even heard of supplements for geckos, and we decided we need to get some for our geckos Spotty and Sunny after we watched this video. We have a 4 year old gecko, and a gecko that is less than a year old. I watched the video on how much to give your geckos too, and I don’t know where to begin with how incredibly helpful that was. Anyway, if anyone can answer my question, thank you very much!
Having researched this stuff a lot trying to figure out the best products and routine I have decided to use the following. 2 x Per Week Zoo Med Repti Calcium With D3 1x Per Week Zoo Med Reptivite without D3 (This is the multivitamin) Studies on animals with very similar biology to that of the Gecko show they have real struggles using vitamin A when in the form of beta carotene as it is in 90% of the markets multivitamins, meaning this is wasted as such in contrast to this the Zoo Med Reptivite product has vitamin A in the form of an acetate. Just my two cents, thanks for the video, enjoyed it.
Zuxeh yeah i heard about the vitamin A situation, fortunately thats in the multivitamins i use. Tomorrow there will be a video on the science behind it and why calcium with d3 isnt great, as calcium is needed more than vitamin d3, but yeah :')
Leopard Gecko hey really hope u notice this but I just got I new Mac snow leopard gecko she was a lot of money and I’d hate to see her die so what brand of multivitamins do i use beaphar website doesn’t show were u buy them I can’t buy it off there website so u have a link or what brand should I use instead
Leo Guilfoyle Yes exactly! Even though Leopard Geckos are illegal in Brazil, and traveled to the US early this month and went to a pet store and saw REAL leopard geckos for the first time lmao! I try to get the most knowledge about them in hope someday they'll be legal here or I go live in some other country.
which vit and min do you think is best out of the two you have as I am also a victim of just calcium ? . .good videos by the way I love how you have given so much info and I would highly recommend this to others :)
Okay so do you also cover the crickets in calcium/vitamin powder? Or just a cap of it or can you do either? Also do you put the calcium/vitamins in everyday?
sorry to scream at you in one of your older videos, but i have a question that's pretty important for me because im pretty low income. is it okay to put the same stuff you gut load the crickets with in the tank with the gecko as a supplement? i'm not adverse to buying both, i just saw that you had a seperate jug of cricket dust and supplement and wondered if there was a big difference or not.
how are people complaining about the price of vitamins 😭 yesterday i bought a huge 12oz tub of calcium for $13 and it's probably gonna last *at least* a solid year
Thank you so much for the helpful video you did. when I bought my leopard gecko they told me I only need calcium D3 and now my leopard gecko might have MBD but lucky I know what to do I will buy these supplements as soon at possible thank you.
I bought all the stuff and 2 geckos for $130 you don’t need too much money for these pets so you guys saying how is she poor when she has leopard geckos there not too much money
Hi we got our baby gecko yesterday. After watching your video would I be correct in thinking we make sure he has a dish in his tank of calcium and I dust his food 5 times a week with the nutrobol?
I had no idea about all this thank you very much! This is my first leopard gecko so I'm new to all this but I've had him for months and he doesn't have any disfigurement even though I have not been giving him calcium or vitamins should I start giving him some or is he fine?
Just wondering, as once a week as you change the supplement dusting, do you also need to change the bowl of calcium in the gecko tank to multivitamins too? Getting a Leo in a few months and really excited!
You know,it's people like you that really are a God given gift I promise you your channel has helped me out so much and given me so much information that I literary did not know like with the colored lights and even MBD my gecko doesn't have it but that's all that's to the fact of your informational videos like this but in the near future I will be making RU-vid videos on my leopard gecko(s) 'cause I will soon be getting another one' but you have inspired me to do that so thank you for that and also I would like to ask you a question Being that I will be doing videos that you inspired me to do, I was wondering if you could be sort of like my mentor on the subject I would recommend that people go to your page and so on but I really, really appreciate you but I was wondering of you could be like my mentor though? Thanks so much!!!!😃😃
Hello! I am going to be getting a leo soon. I picked up the Rapashy Calcium plus, I already own plain calcium(exo-terra brand) and I also have calcium +D3. With these three supplements, am I set? Also how should I use them on a schedule? I was thinking 2 feedings plain calcium, 3rd feeding I should use the calcium+D3, rapashy, or mix the two?
So, leopard geckos do not need D3 at all? I have pure calcium which I use, and also a multivitamin with D3 in it. Is this bad for them? I love your videos by the way! It's awesome that you have been uploading so frequently lately :D
***** It is still ok for sure, in general what you wanna watch our for is oversupplementing, that is giving them too much of one thing or another. For example avoid Multivitamin Powders with D3 if you already offer D3 with your Calcium. Try to include it with one or the other though as they do "need" D3, just not on the level they need Calcium.
You shouldn't need to mix and single supplement no. However the ideal way to do it is place you feeder insects inside something like a small tub or sandwich bag, then put in an appropriate amount of supplement and swirl or shake the tub or bag. Then feed the insects off as normal and they should now be evenly pre-dusted with your supplement of choice. Good luck.
Hi guys so I just found out my gecko need mv so I just order some😁 so is the schedule: first and second feeding: pure calcium 3rd feeding: calcium with d3 4th feeding mv. Keep in mind my gecko is over 1 year is this ok
Ok so I'm getting a leopard gecko tomorrow and could use some help. I bought two powders. One says Calcium and the other says Calcium+D3. Do the same rules apply? Do I give the calcium 4 days then calcium+D3 2 days of the week? And are the minerals and vitamins necessary or is the Calcium+D3 just as good?
Im a bit confused. I'm about to own my first gecko so I'm just confused on whether if my repashy calcium comes with d3, do I still need to give him just pure calcium? or do I give him pure vitamin d3. I am looking to buy rehashes cause I heard a lot of great reviews but just don't know what else I need to accompany with that. Anything will help, thank you.
I'm getting two 2 yr oldleopard geckos from my sister in law. Apparently she only feeds them worms every 2 days and doesn't give them calcium. She said the owner ofvthe pet store she gets her worms from don't need the calcium powder. Is it possible the worms are pre loaded with calcium?
They still need to be dusted with calcium every other feeding and vitamins every three feedings. Or Repashy Calcium Plus every feeding. Worms are fatty and not healthy for their main diet, they will make the geckos overweight if they haven’t already. They need mainly live crickets or Dubia roaches. They should only be getting fed once every 3-4 days/twice a week. Please house the geckos separately :)
I've had my leopard gecko for about 3 months, he's about a year old and i feed him every other day and i dust his mealworms and crickets with calcium that also has vitamin d3 in it, and I have a calcium dish in the tank with him, also being the same calcium with d3 in it, I'm going to buy vitamin powder. I was wondering though, is it okay to have just pure calcium in his calcium dish and dust the mealworms and crickets with calcium that has vitamin d3 in it?
Is it safe to feed the meal worm beetles to the leopard gecko? Sorry if I sound stupid but I just want to know if it's safe or if I should just like throw the beetles out or something
Question: are those just 2 examples of the same thing (D3 with vitamins & minerals), or is the beaphar and nutrobal, two separate supplements that have different functions and if so when should I feed them to a gecko?
I just adopted a leopard gecko who had his tail bitten off by another leopard gecko at the petstore. He had a scar on his head. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to help him get his nutrition up.
hi I have a juvenile leopard gecko under 6 months and you said in 1 video that the monthly cost of crickets for 4 adult geckos is 2 pounds( 6 Canadian dollars). But my gecjo eats around 5-6 crickets a day and one cricket cost 0.11$ for one small cricket(0.05 pounds) so in one month that will cost 20 dollars? is the prices here in Canada bad?
Would these supplements be alright for an African Fat tail? I realize they are not the same as a leopard so thought I would ask.....if you have answered this particular question before then I apologize in advance.
I've looked at various sources but I can't seem to get a straight answer on which of these should have D3. Should the calcium have d3 or the vitamins or should both have d3?
So, I've had my juvenile leopard gecko for around 2 weeks now. Been feeding it crickets and some mealworms. I dust the food with calcium and multivitamin before feeding. Its tail is a bit more plump now than when I first got her(?). Looks a lot healthier than it was. It used to have a thinner tail :) I think it's a 'she'? Is it possible to tell whether it is male or female when its juvenile?
Yes you can tell. Also, they need insects lightly dusted with calcium powder every other feeding and vitamin powder every three feedings, not every feeding that's too much
Have you tried the komodo livefoods booster for leopard geckos? From what I've worked out on the ingredients it seems a good middle ground. It has raw calcium as well as a smaller proportion of d3 along with vitamins. I still do the odd feed on nutrobal but it seems to be doing him well. He's 10 months now and 45g, no deformities or defects that I can find. He also has the mini 2% uvb t5 from arcadia which probably helps.
When you say give vitamins at the weekend and calcium in the week do you mean in a bowl or dusted onto their live food. Getting a gecko in two weeks and want it to be as healthy as possible
You don’t need a calcium dish. Dust with calcium every other feeding and vitamins every three feedings. Make sure one supplement has d3 unless you use UVB.
Hey awsome and helpful vid i am a new leopard gecko owner been one for 3 days now i keep trying to educate myself with videos on how to care for them to give them the best life possible. just a question for here in canada in the stores that are near me we have Rep-Cal multivitamins so i have that i have a Calcium without D3 is there anything else that i need for supplements please help i just want to make sure i have everything i need
As long as the multivitamins have d3, that’s fine. Dust with calcium every other feeding and vitamins every three feedings. Don’t leave calcium in the enclosure.
Im planning to get a leopard gecko soon, is calcium with vitamin d3 ok to feed 5 days a week and the other 2 days a multivitamin from the company herptivite?
I bought a leopard gecko 2 days ago and I have been putting calcium on her meal worms but I don’t have a bowl of it in her tank, should I put a bowl in her tank and when I use vitamins do I sprinkle it just like calcium
Don’t put a calcium bowl in her enclosure, it’s unnecessary and can do more harm than good. And yes, vitamin dusting is the same as calcium dusting. Only dust with calcium every other feeding and vitamins every three feedings. Keep in mind that mealworms shouldn’t be her main diet and should make up no more than 25% of their diet. Feed mainly live crickets or roaches.
So ive got calcium with D3 but it's only calcium carbonate and D3 in it but I also got a reptile multivitamin with both calcium and D3 should I buy something else or will this work they are also juveniles.
HEY i know you probably wont see this but will it hurt my gecko if i use calcium with d3 and multi vitamins at the same time cuz ive been doing this forever and i dont want hurt my leo whom i named parthanuxx
I don't get it so dust your crickets with calcium everyday and leave some in their tank and don't use calciumD3 but dust your crickets in vitamins once a week? Is this right?
@Leopard Gecko thank you. And it's funny because I'm reading the other comments and your just like wait till tomorrow for my next video I've said it like 3 times already.😄
*I'm so lost right now, can anyone help???* When you're giving your geckos vitamins, do you give them a bit of calcium, too? And when you're giving them calcium, do you mix in a little vitamins? I've heard from many people that constantly feed their geckos calcium dusted insects with a little vitamin powder mixed in, is that okay to do? Like you take a bag and put two parts calcium to one part vitamin powder and just dust insects like that? I want my gecko to be as healthy as possible, so *if anyone can let me know it would be greatly appreciated!*
It's just a schedule, you can always give it 100% calcium 5 days a week and 100% vitamins 2 days a week. Or like you were saying, give it about 1/3 of vitamins and 2/3 of calcium. Since you are applying less vitamins this way, you would have to put the vitamins for more days in a week (about 4 days of 1/3 vitamins) Again, its just different schedules to when you should dust the food with calcium and vitamins. Sorry for late response.
Fiona Shepley thank you! I haven't used that yet however I found out I had mixed Calcium, and Calcium together. Lol. So it would have been pointless because of my mistake even if it was a good idea! I'll stick with the normal routine :)
This is helpful but I have this fear that I'm buying the wrong ones. Right now I only have two reptile supplements which is Zoo meds reptivite: reptile vitamins with D3(with a chameleon on the paper) and the second one is the same thing except without D3. I'm just a little confused because the place where I got the without D3 (leopard gecko in front) was at a reptile shop called Ron's reptiles and the one with D3 I got at Petco. I'm looking at your Brands but I'm just afraid I'm getting on the wrong ones.
I'm a little bit confused. I have pure calcium, which I leave out in a dish for my baby gecko, a multivitamin (herptivite), which I dust the food with 2x a week, and calcium w/ D3, which I dust the food with 5x a week. Do I need some kind of separate D3 supplement, or does the calcium w/ d3 contain enough? Am I doing anything wrong?
AssWeCan get pure calcium, meaning calcium without D3, and then get the Nutrobal Vitamins. Calcium with D3 doesn't have enough of it. So you should only use pure calcium and vitamins. If you watch her videos and look what she lists in her description boxes you should be do everything fine.
HELP PLEASE ASAP!!!! So I just got my first leopard gecko along with the Repti Calcium with D3 by Zoo Med and the Herptivite Multivitamins. I am confused on wether or not i should use these products or if there are better choices. p.s. i live in the US. Another question is what do you suggest for heating options because my tank is around 67*F and am worried my leo is too cold. PLEASE HELP I AM EXTREMELY WORRIED!!!
Hi there. Why do you give calcium in a tub in the viv and with feeding? My first gecko is arriving on Wednesday and I want to get all my basic knowledge down before then.
Hello, I’m using something called Reptivite, and it’s contents is all sorts of vitamins, with d3, but also other vitamins like vitamin A, vitamin D, Vitamín C, vitamin E, vitamin B1, vitamin B2, calcium, phosphor, electrolytes and amino acids. Is this a good enough supplement for the mineral and vitamins part?
lizbeth Ramirez that’s true, they need d3 to absorb calcium. They can get that via the right type of UVB or supplements. Dust with calcium every other feeding and vitamins every three feedings
is precipitated calcium carbonate the kind of calcium i need? cause theres a zoo med calcium with no D3 and it only says precipitated calcium carbonate on the list of ingredients. what kind of vitamins should i use? is zoo med reptivite with d3 good? or should i just use herptivite multivitamin for reptiles and amphibians with the zoo med calcium with no d3 (if thats good should i just use herptivite multivitamins and zoo med calcium with no d3)? or is phosphorous-free oyster shell Calcium Carbonate the right kind of calcium? cause if that is ok then i could get Zoo Med Reptivite as the vitamins? or are all of these ok?
I ask my pet store what calcium get for my Leo when i first got him and they recommend without D3, so I got the calcium without D3 it was a few dollars extra and almost everyone at the shop loves Leo's a lot of the workers have them, and my pet store is kinda exotic, I also got my Leo from the pet store because I trust them fully they provide extremely good care of there animals they have, heat mats, repti carpet, they clean the cages about every month, and also keep the geckos with dividers if they are males, and also keep the females and baby's with the same sized tank mate. As well as they breed there own geckos and they will not sell stick tail geckos or ones they suspect have parasites and keep them away from the healthy geckos until they are heathy again
I know somebody that cut their geckos legs off with kitchen scissors and then imprisoned it in a small container until it died with no food. It was awful.
I used to feed calcium to my geckos. Later, I was told that they don't need these minerals, calcium and vitamins, so I stopped. My geckos stopped eating, and now I'm concerned. I put a calcium dish and going to get vitamins and minerals soon.
So you do pure calcium with no d3 and then when you do the multi-vitamin it should included d3 right? My geckos is not exposed to any uvb in its enclosure.
I'm going to be getting a baby leopard gecko soon and have some questions about vitamins. I'm thinking of buying calcium with d3 and without, and, as you advised, giving him/her calcium without d3 through the week and calcium with d3 on the weekends. Will this be okay? Also, should I be dusting crickets with calcium containing d3 or without?
