Couldn't agree more. As someone returning to the hobby. As a plinker schoolboy. This man has given me an in-depth knowledge. So hopefully as an adult I can buy the correct rifle to do everything I need . To last for life.
for a sport as popular as air rifles and shooting in the uk you'd expect a larger amount of content creators, there's roughly 5 air guns for every registered air gun user in the uk. and about 4 good professional air gun channels
I really appreciate how much you emphasized how bb/air guns are not air-soft guns and are still very dangerous! When I was a young teenager my dumb cousin-in-law pointed a bb gun at me after pumping it I believe over 20 times and pulled the trigger... Well, he said he thought it didn't have a bb in it but it did! The bb hit me in the neck and it missed my carotid artery by .3mm... I just had it removed a year ago after it was in my neck for over 20 years because I needed an MRI on my neck (I forgot it was there and they started doing the MRI and had to do an emergency shutdown because of the steel and copper in the bb). Just found your channel and I'm enjoying your videos so far. Thanks
Best reviewer I have ever seen/heard , explains clearly, preciously and is extremely informative. Speaks directly to the point the whole time without just talking for the sake of it, unlike many others here on youtube. Well done Andy.
I admire how you never bash a brand. I have noticed with some other reviewers that don’t carry/sale a certain brand that they won’t make money on, the have a tendency to discredit it and talk badly about. In my mind, I see it as false information that may deter a possible newbie from becoming a air gunner. To me, that’s ignorant and wrong. I really wish they didn’t base their opinion on the items just because they don’t sale them and there isn’t any money in it for them. Thank you for always being true to yourself, our sport and all of its products. You have my deepest respect sir. God bless.
Being a resident of the colonies and owning ARs, AKs, and numerous hi cap pistols, my true passion is airguns. You help fuel that with a sophistication that relates to a gentlemanly pursuit.
Of the hundreds of different reviewers You sir are hands down the best. All business to the point. Many play obnoxious music, think there comedians, brag, you get my point. Thank you.
As an air gun enthusiast from the age of six ( I had a Diana mod.2 then) I am still an enthusiast after nearly 60 yrs. I love your informative videos, best wishes & stay safe.
Wow! Marathon session Andy! It just goes to show how varied the airgun world is today. My choice 40+ years ago was limited to a BSA Airsporter, a Webley 4X20 scope and BSA Pylarm pellets! We are truly blessed that things have developed to give such a fantastic range of options for both old and new airgun shooters. Great job matey!
Hello Mr Andy. I am from Greece and my name is Eric. Congratulations for your great channel! It helps me very much with all that information for my potential hobby. I really admire and that English accent .I really like you English people!!
Wow! I've been shooting for over 30 years and hadn't realised how much the sport has progressed since I began with my hw77!! Great video again Andy, got me thinking about what I've tried over the years and more so how much money I've spent (or wasted if you ask the missus!!) Cheers....keep safe.
@@grahamwilkinson6902 they were and still are a great gun. I currently have a hw90 in the cabinet as I love the gas ram (but not the weight) along with several different precharged I use. I still love a good spring gun for their simplicity and reliability and have owned many over the years, I think the pro sport was my favourite. I still shoot in the garden regularly and when I can get out and about I have a small permission with a few bunnies on it. I still take the 90 out now and then but have fallen in love with my air arms tdr due to the minimal weight and ease of use. Problem at the moment is my tank is empty and the dive shop is closed!! Back to the 90 then I guess. Keep safe.🙂
Brilliant Man, started watching his videos from last week and can not stop. I have learned so much about air rifles already and want to get my first PCP Rifle. Keep up the good work
I'm returning to the sport after a 15 year absence and this video was an extremely thorough and entertaining refresher. Thanks very much, Andy; you're a natural. Subscribed 🔫
Hello Andy, I've been subscribed to you for quite a few weeks now and enjoyed all your videos that I've watched, last time I.held a air rifle must have been about 40 years ago, 🙄wow, time flys, But after watching you I now can't wait for lock down to end then I can go and join a local club and start shooting again, Thanks again Andy and keep those videos coming 👍👍🌈stay safe.
Impressive job! I cannot believe you covered so much in such a small amount of time! Sticking to the topic, beginners, was brilliantly done. Indexing topics in the notes was an excellent idea. I've seen many dozens of beginner videos and I can honestly say this was the best. Good show :)
I bought a BSA Lighting XL SE fired it 10 times & while having a look at air rifles that night I decided to buy a Daystate Huntsman Regal . I Absolutely love both my missus wants the BSA Lighting XL SE . The kids love the BSA too I think it's the feel of it 👌👍
@@GreenCanvasInteriorscape it is important to keep track of power output to keep the gun legal and to find out what speed gives the best precision with what ammunition. 😊 If you start tweaking it is very easy to increase the power over the legal limit for your country and if you are lucky enough to live where there is no power limits it is still interesting to chech consistency and to establish the guns powercurve. In short it is a very useful took that every airgunner needs, pcp or spring shooter a like. 😊
Hi Andy another outstanding review, got into watching your videos about 6 months ago and have found them to be the best out there I like that there’s no messing about unboxing the guns and there is always the mention on safety which to me is paramount to our sport.,stay safe and well..
Something that a lot of Airgun Puritans forget a lot, Andy, is that the first airguns ever made WERE Pre-charged rifles filled to around 800PSI or something with a hand pump.
just joined a local pcp gun club and im about to become a full member , great help and clear advice from you mate much appreaciated i shall be pulling the trigger on my first gun soon
Thank you again "Professor Andy" for another comprehensive and informative video! I'll be ready for the pop-quiz at the next go around.......class dismissed!
I've just started with air guns and found these videos great think I've watched them all now very down to earth I've even messaged to ask question and got back to me thanks next I think AAR magazine 👍
Great video, wish it was around about 3 months ago when i took up the sport. However it was some of your other videos that got me interested in the first place. I had shotguns many years ago but gave them up in the end. I love my BSA R10 SE carbine and before lockdown went to a great target range near my home. As soon as lockdown ends I want to get a lighter gun for shooting off rest as my R10 with FFP scope and bipod weighs in at 10 pounds. Thinking of a Artemis M16 without buddy bottle or Zbroia as like the look, this will also double up as a rifle for a junior family member who wants to give the sport ago. Be good to get him off playstation and shoot a real gun. So thanks again for your help in getting me started in this great sport, however wife would not agree as do less jobs around the house as always up the range.
Hey, for all the Airgun shooters far and wide you are the most informative, concise, likeable, relatable and plane funny. Of all the wasted time I have spent watching you tube videos of guys hummin and yawin while trying to get the words out of their mouth describing a simple object in front of them I wish I had found you earlier. But wait I did. And I love your videos. Now I have to waste my time listening to others on topics that understandably you shouldn’t discuss… Should other presenters ever watch your show and happen upon my comment, take note… there is a reason this guy is successful, his communication is intelligible. Thank you. And should you have a video on modifications dos and don’t s please post. Cheerio
Great Video. Thank you so much. As an American who lives in the wilderness outside a popular National Park I’m finding with the scary influx of Vacation Rental homes as opposed to neighborhoods that people actually LIVE IN, it’s becoming perhaps smarter to fire an Airgun off my back deck than a firearm. A few years ago nobody cared. Now they call the Sheriff. Cheers. Very informative.
I have that pump you showed in the video. It lasted three years. I just got a Hatsan brand pump. Seems more heavy duty and better built but it’s way harder to pump.
Hi Andy great content, I’m new to air gunning and have been watching your back catalogue. All very informative, I have a Gamo Phox on order and can’t wait to get started 👍🏼
I am glad you put in a good technical word for the .20. I have an old SHERIDAN 20, (pistole), circa 1985. And a BENJAMIN Blue Streak, bought 12 yrs later~. Both are 20s . At least you covered that topic somewhat. ☆.
I'm just beginning the journey and researching these delightful guns and was thinking the same myself, are there larger CO2 cartridges that can sustain multiple minutes/rounds?
Very helpful! And my first PCP is going to be an FX impact thanks impart to your review recently, I have waits years to get an fx indy but found they are no longer available so I decided I'm jumping straight to the top of the class and getting one I'll never regret or wish I'd gotten better... thanks again for all the helpful tips and information it's greatly appreciated!!! From Alaska 🥃cheers🍻
@@liam7822 after having one for I can't believe I waited so long! Its probably one of the single best shooting investigations i have ever made and to anyone on the fence or wondering if the price is justifiable it is it so is ! ! ! I ran a full tin through it in the first 2 weeks maybe less and that's with a hand pump 🤣 hope if you don't already have one you get one there incredibly accurate out of the box with no turning at all out to 100yds and my proof is in the pencil I cut in half playing a game with family 😅 amazing air rifles!
@@jackdaniels7913 yeah, unfortunately the fx impact has become a restricted firearm in Ireland so I am unable to buy it, but there is the fx dreamline lite which I'm getting still same performance just little less perks but its an fx, any fx rifle is going to be good
Great and very comprehensive video for all those new to the sport or wanting to join ....... and folks remember there's always time for lube......and as a side note have not yet managed to find a slug that will work better than a pellet in a 12ftlb gun and trust me have had plenty of time to try over the last few weeks through a variety of barrels/guns
Thank you I had saw your show on the umarex 50 cal pistol mine is the Tr50, after seeing your show I had bought one and must have been a good show,, I bought one. Thank you again I learn a lot when I watch your show and I appreciate the venue.
Absolutely excellent! know nothing about guns, but would like to get rid of some garden pests that are wreaking havoc. This video started from ground zero and covered all the bases. Thank you so much! I think maybe I can get over my fear of guns and use one responsibly.
Andy I am blown away. What an incredible resource you have created. Thank you for your content. I hope it rewards you well as it is lost definitely deserved!
I'll never go back to brake barrels or pump guns after my first PCP. We do allot of ratting and pests control the multi-shot repeaters are the only way to get the job done with high numbers. Co2 simply sucks for hunting anything bigger than a Wolf spider. The cost is a big issue but she'll get over it, Wait at least a year before buying another or plan it so your sleeping on the porch in the summer.
All credit. As an absolute newby your videos are very clear and articulate. Thank you very much. Recently started with a Webley Nemesis X due to your recommendation and now fancying something a bit more powerful! Would LOVE a “best pcp for around £500” vid Thanks again
We would be happy about a compact PCB shootout. FX Dreamliner tactical compact and similar. You don’t need to own all of them, it also helpful if you discuss the models and their differences via a kind of window shopping showing the website of the manufacturer and specs. Rounded up with your comments...
I wish they had these air rifles and all of the accoutrements when I was a kid. My friends and I grew up using Benjamin, Crossman and Sheridan pump powered rifles with peep sights.
Thank you, Andy, for this overview for beginners (or, upgraders) as the case may be. With my first gun, I've learned a lot about what I want & don't want. You've told me what may now be available for the next one. VERY HELPFUL INDEED. Lots to consider. And thank you, again! Cheers!
Good video! Here are some of my thoughts when watching this video and some of personal preferences and knowledge (looks like a wrote a book...): - 300bar 10 or 12L scuba tank for refilling. 300bar - meaning, more air in the cylinder ergo, more refills. Also, there seems to be some optimal solution between cylinder weight and the volume of air it contains. Downside - there is risk of overcharging when the gun cylinder is lower than 300bar working pressure. Dried air from divers club compressor is probably better for the longevity of the gun, as said here - air guns don't really work on water. Hand pumps are not that good at drying air. - refilling the gun - you probably can't remove the adapter from cylinder when under pressure. It tightens up all seals and threads, basically locking the things in place. But there are some gun cylinders that have to be screwed off under pressure (like Steyr LG110). - calibers - don't forget the forefather of todays PCP air guns, the Girardoni. It was around .50 cal. There are some custom/self built air rifles, the largest caliber ones being 20mm (or even larger) and with energy of .308 NATO or more. - single shot adapters instead magazines. There are competitions (like Field-Target) where you are supposed to have single shot rifles only. - JSB Express and Exact pellets - while good and accurate, they seem to need washing. I have tried diesel fuel as it can both wash and lube (leaves waxy residue after hot air drying) and had good results. - barrels - for PCP the longer barrel is better as the pellets gain energy over the length of the barrel. What determines accuracy is the last 0.1mm at the end of the barrel - the crown. So, do not damage this part. Silencers/moderators help keeping harm away from it. The barrel should be of good quality, you can check it by shoving (with plastic or bronze rod) pellet through barrel - it should slide smoothly and move a bit harder at choke part. Have discovered more than one "lemon" this way. Have tried ceramic nano-coating, it seemed to smoothen things a little and cleaning felt kind of easier. - silencers - they need to be precision manufactured and fitted. There is only a hair (or so) between pellet and moderator bore. Additional weight added to the end of the barrel also bends the barrel a bit and thus shifts POI. Some of those things are only looking like "silencers" but basically do not do much good. One of the first things to check/remove if the gun does not shoot well. - targets - those larger paper ones shown here are good for 10m pistol. For a rifle, they start to be fun at 30-50 meters (well, I'm not a beginner anymore...). There are also metal silhouette targets that fall over when hit in the killzone, duel trees etc.
As owner od rotex (or rotax) rm8 varmint very accurate video. PCP is always costly, but fun of using bolt action rifle is really a thing. My thought on PCP biggest advantages are ability to use cheap otics, no recoil, no problem. You can use airsoft grade scope ( I'm from Poland so decent airsoft scope like 6-24 x 50 cost about 200 PLN when used airgun grade can be at least about 1000PLN, real weapon grade i think it's bout 3000 PLN minimum. Pump workout can be also considered as advantage. Easy to use, but more challenging than "breaking barell one".
Excellent! Excellent! Excellent! I've been wanting to get a better pellet rifle in a bigger caliber. There are sooooo many options out there. Finding info on the various factors/ topics is overwhelming. But here it is wrapped up in one easy- to- understand video. Well done and thank you tremendously!!!
Thanks sincerely Andy! I'm interested in a PCP air rifle. Your knowledge and great presentation skills are making me very excited to experience this type gun. Cheers from USA!
I can not WAIT for the Springer vs PCP episode. I use a Weihrauch springer, not because I'm part of a primitive cult of testosterone fueld Neoliths, but for it's simplicity in a survival situation and it's low entry price, in addition to it's recoil, used as a great training tool for accuracy when using real firearms. Thanks for the content, I look forward to you're next episode after every one I watch haha, life saver right now mate. Cheers.
The lead-free pellets particular H&N Baracuda Green and Predator GTO are very accurate in .22 in both my springer and PCP. The only compromise is cost with the Predator GTOs being a little over double than JSB Jumbo Diabolo .22. Lighter weight also means you lose accuracy at longer distances, say, 50+m. The benefit is you need less power for a given pellet speed, and resulting higher shot count. Low power, for me, is desirable when pesting. Lead free means less barrel cleaning. Scopes, as said, is a personal preference. Lower magnification means a greater field of view, and this matters greatly for fast moving targets. It also greatly helps in finding your target (don't overlook binoculars for spotting; they are essential). I rarely use more than 16x on the high-end given that most pesting is at relatively short distances. Also, higher magnification means a smaller eye box, i.e. how you have orient your eye to get a clear picture. Large objective lenses (the number after the x) means weight (and higher cost) and for that get more light which gives you more light at dawn and dusk. Don't overlook 3-9x33, 4-12x40, and 4-16x50 scopes. Finally, for airguns, you want a scope that focuses down to at least 10m.
