If you're travelling to India on a budget, this is the cheapest way to get around! You'll find shared rickshaws all over the country at extremely cheap prices. But remember, the less you pay, the less comfortable your ride! In this video, I'll show you exactly how to catch a shared rickshaw in a remote part of India.
In India, a shared rickshaw typically refers to a cycle rickshaw or motorized rickshaw (tuk-tuk) that is used for public transportation in urban and semi-urban areas They are a common mode of transport for short distances.
The term "shared" indicates that multiple passengers can use the same rickshaw for their commute. This is a cost-effective way of transportation for short distances, as passengers share the fare, making it more affordable for each individual. Shared rickshaws are commonly found in crowded marketplaces, busy city streets, and areas where narrow roads make it difficult for larger vehicles to operate efficiently.
It's worth noting that their use and popularity can vary from one region to another, and some cities may have regulations or restrictions on their operation.
Additionally, in recent years, there has been increased interest in promoting sustainable and eco-friendly transportation options: electronic and cycle rickshaws align with these goals.

Your videos bring back so many memories! Close friends of mine live in Pune and I've been to India several times. During my first trip I stayed at a hotel near Goregaon Station in Mumbai. I took the public train from the city centre after a great day exploring and arrived at the station during rush hour in the evening. There were so many people waiting to get a rickshaw and I guess I looked a bit lost. Suddenly a rickshaw just stopped in front of me and the guys (passengers) just told me to get on. They dropped me right in front of my hotel and refused to take my share of the fare. Since then I travelled around India for several times, South to North and although I experienced a few dodgy situations, I really look forward to my next India trip. Such a lovely country and people.

@ColinWatters
@ColinWatters 4 месяца назад
We rode many small non-shared Tuk Tuks around Bengaluru, Kolkata and Delhi. In general they are a lot cheaper than taxi in western cities. Ask in your hotel what the normal rate is for where you are going. If its an uncommon destination get the hotel to write it down. Haggle hard before you get in and make sure its the total not for each person. On one occassion our group needed 2 Tuk Tuks and were quoted a very good price. On arrival we were surprised to find one driver declined payment saying that the quote was for both vehicles! There are some honest drivers so tip well if you get a good rate. Keep your hands and elbows inside at all times as cars do get close. You cant go to India without riding in a Tuk Tuk for the experience.
