Thanks for this excellent video. More proof this is best live GBV lineup there has been. Could even prove to be the best lineup full stop; the new albums rule.
Also, what's awesome is that since you've posted this, Zeppelin Over China and Warp and Woof have been released. 2 more excellent albums, loaded with great songs and hooks. And apparently another new album, Sweating the Plague, is being released in about a month. Nuts.
Great, great stuff !! Thanks !! Anyone else get the impression they are playing the old stuff slower than the album versions? Especially noticable on "I am a Tree" but maybe also on "Tractor" and "Gold Star "....anyway, tighter than ever !!
they're definitely playing those songs a lot slower. this version of Tractor Rape Chain is about 15 seconds longer than the version that the classic lineup played (yes, I'm a dork so I checked several live videos). the current band is probably the best lineup GBV has ever had, but this song is definitely missing some of the classic lineup energy.
Yes! Reminds me of the last couple of Replacements albums that were unbelievably well played and, hella tight but...kinda Teflon [tm]. This band is crazy good but they should "relax" a little bit because they are good enough to be tight and dynamic and, a bit of recklessness included but still be tight and powerful. Obvious comparison 1966-1968 WHO. Check out the HIGH NUMBERS at the Railway to get what I mean ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-waxaiAjh-r0.html
I remember that hot minute they were getting airplay on Mix 106 here in Baltimore because they got that song on Scrubs. At the time I didn’t know about the Scrubs thing, and I was at work and hear the DJ say Guided By Voices.. I was like. WTF?? But this was very short lived.
That's pretty neat! Ironmen got some play when it came out on 99.1 hfs and just last year I heard Teenage fbi on 89.7, I think that's a small towson atation
