That bass line is literally one note away from being "a salty salute." But the song is great and the production level is different than anything else they've put out.
Many things to muse upon: How they are able to sound just like their retro vein of music from a couple of decades ago, but also very much relatable to the style of today, and also sound unique against their piles and piles of albums of material, but also how Bob's vocals sound unchanged over the years .....this all is simply mind-blowing to me.
Wow. I'm hearing hints of Bee Thousand, tasting Under The Bushes Under the Stars, and seeing, in my memory, GBV perform Wire Greyhounds. What a perfect, back to back pairing. Brilliant!
It's ridiculous -- 'Sweating The Plague' was so good, maybe the best post-reformation rec of theirs that i've heard, and they're already back with another !
@@timt183 You are an anarcho-communist. I'm an anarchist individualist and if you shared my anti-statist views you'd attack the huge encroachment of civil liberties by socialists right now. You seem to be more interested in this meaningless boogyman of fascism rather than actually being critical of socialist policy's that plague many countries in the world today. Conservatives are by no means faultless, but they are much more supportive of civil liberties than any lefties. I seldom hear of any support from larping "libertarian socialists" in concern to free speech, freedom of association, the right to self-defence or any other similar issues. Furthermore, your anarchy is conditional on the political party or ideological outlook active in government rather than a deep seated ideological scepticism of government in general.
Hot Take: This is a quintessential track, far enough past the "lo/hi-fi discourse" and just rocking enough to get newbies hooked on the band. All of this impressive as hell given how far into the GBV story this released in.
I'm not really a GBV fan, more just a fan of one album, but this sounds great to my fickle ears! The name of the album I refer to escapes me. It's the one with Pretty Bombs on it. Universal Cycles and Truths or something.

I mostly listen to more proggy-type stuff nowadays (see theprogressiveaspect.net/ ) but I'll be picking this up. There's always something inventive and highly musical about Bob's work.
GBV/ BoB should just release a new record of rock/ magazine of art quarterly, 4 times a year, and you could subscribe. You could have a Winter issue/ record, then a Spring, then a Summer, then Autumn.
