People who pretend to prefer an old poorly recorded version of a great song are so weird. A good song is always better in higher quality. It's like pretending to prefer a pixelated 320 x 300 resolution image of a classic painting instead of the same image in 4k.
My friend who introduced me and our girlfriends at the time (who were best friends) all went to the 2004 final farewell tour. He passed a few short years later and I’ve been to see them many times since and become a massive fan. He would be happy to know that. 😢❤

Nice. But you find out, listening to a fully fleshed out version, that the charm of the original is a bit lost. The claustrophobia is diminished. Divorce does not a fun rock-song make. I was drawn to GBV BECAUSE I had to jump into their songs to find them. Past the fuzz. Past the noodling. Past the drunken, 3am 4-track vibe. And that invitation to where they are while they're recoding it, is what makes them to me. But maybe that only works for someone who has also recorded that way, with his friends, at 3am, just for fun?
I kinda heard the bass for the first time clearly in this version... 😀 But I agree GbV should be lo-fi, especially that song. Just like Smothered in hugs, love that one too!
@@WimCossement I've always liked GbV and their lo-fi sound, but Isolation Drills is my favorite of their albums. My phone ringtones alternate between "Chasing Heather Crazy" and "Privately"; So I'm in favor of issuing the alternate versions of beefed up "I Am A Scientist" and "Tractor Rape Chain. "
