The cause of Maureen's car accident was producer Jill Farren Phelps. After all of her focus groups made no mention of Maureen at all, Phelps figured the character was not essential to the show and killed her off. In many ways, that death and Phelp's allowing Beverlee McKinsey to quit, were multiple nails in the show's coffin. Phelp's finger prints are all over the show's dead body.
David Creelman Maureen’s death was all Phelps, but not Beverlee. Beverlee was getting tired of the grueling schedule as Alexandra was a tent pole character.
Jill Farren Phelps and producers had no control over Beverlee McKinsey's quitting. She had the out in her contract and used it; no one could have stopped her.
@@DegrassiInstantStar Phelps could've reduce her days or given her an extended break. But she apparently didn't read Beverlees contract and thus was screwed after she left.
@@la73sh19 Exactly. Also claire was very manipulative. She wanted to live in The Old Bauer Apartment above the garage but Danny said no. She started crying and Michelle decided to give her a break but when she found out that she and Carmen were in cahoots to keep her and Danny apart, that was the last straw.
That was the "whole" point. I told UK Soap Fans about what happened with Lillian, and if this were a UK Soap, Lillian would have been treated like a pariah big time. Also for 17 Years Lillian never tried to make amends for what she did. Then history repeats itself with Rick & Beth. Those Bauer Men are in many ways just as damaged goods as are The Spaulding Men, and The Lewis Men.
saskwatcher- I loathe JPF but she didn'y allow BM to quit. BM didn't tell anyone she was quitting, she used a clause in her contract to leave and JPF didn't know until the night BM left b/c JPF was on vacation. She deserves blame for so much, but the BM thing was not really her fault. The only thing JPF could have done was to reduce the time the show was taking to film an episode.
