Guilty Gear Strive is a big deal with many fully unique characters and this video is here to give you enough information on who you should decide as your main! As always pick who you like, but going in educated on what the characters can do should certainly help! Timestamps everywhere on the video so skip to whoever you think is neat and enjoy!
Sol is like the perfect main playable character. Rather than being a jack of all trades, he's a master in the playstyle most newcomers want to play, completely rushdown, short and sweet
I always found it weird how in friendly matches sol always wins a few but when in a serious fight KY lays his ass out like crazy. I'm like I guess that's why they made robo ky
@@TheVanOvanShow sol has raw power but its unrefined. Nago calls him out on it too, so unless Ky is actually trying to kill him, his technique allows him to draw Sol at best
Zato/Eddie has always been this way, ever since the beginning. He's a great example of a character that is hard to master but INCREDIBLY rewarding when mastered.
“Faust is a Smash player’s worst nightmare, because items are always on.” You see, as a smash casual who never played an actual fighting game, this is a win win.
Yeah man, I prefer items on in Smash because it’s just more fun that way lol. It’s a game mechanic, let it be a game mechanic. If I want to play a more serious fighting game, I’ll play GG or BB. If it’s just a chill party with friends, you better believe we’re leaving items on!
Don't listen to Roof. Drop whoever's you're playing. You main Sol now. Every Match start. We Heavy dp. Wake up dp. Breathe dp. 🦍🦍🦍🦍🦍🦍🦍🦍🦍🦍🦍🦍 I dropped Millia because Sol is so complete.
@@medicfdumbo Gorillas get punished, Chipp is fragile Gorilla, I want to miss safely and hit buttons with my Gorilla fingers 🦍🦍🦍🦍🦍 (I know what you mean tho)
Fun fact: Faust has a secret super move, you can do it with the input “quarter curcle forward x3 punch” Basically just w-w-what but extra. It requires a full tension bar and throws out 10 items insanely fast
As fighting games have taught me you don't pick the character. Somehow, but more like always, the character will pick you. But if you want more pointers try to find a one that you like the look of the character or their cool moves. Always play the characters that you like never play someone you don’t like. But make sure to try them out, as Ryu always says the answer lies in the heart of battle.
thats exactly what i say!! you will think you wanna play a character because they look cool and you get in the game and they just dont click you dont like the buttons or anything and you find your main in the character you wouldnt even expect to like. Thats how i ended up maining nappa he looked so weird and i tried him out and his buttons felt fun his playstyle was goofy and fun and i went with it.
@@metalgamer8179 For me I get lucky sometimes the character that I main is the first one I pick up cause they just call to me. Other times I find characters that are better for me. Like when I started playing street fighter I went from Ryu to Sakura had i found her better for me and more fun. Other times the first character I pick is the one like Ramlethal in Strive or Cable, Psylocke and Gambit in Mvc2.
@@JBlxckk Yeah That’s me with Trunks in Fighterz he’s my favorite character in DBZ but I wasn’t having fun. Then I saved money and bought Vegito and was enjoying playing him tons more.
@@GrayderFox Same thing happened that happens to my little bro, he tried him in the beta and likes him. I picked up Ram as I thinks she’s cool and cute and her gameplay just stuck.
@@metalgamer8179 I made myself learn Nash recently just because I like his theme. Lmaooo I play Cammy. I agree that going from Chun-Li to Zangief is a complete 180. Or is it a ………..360? 😎😎 lol
its a whole thing, cause they had to nuke japan again cause godzilla who is sols girlfriend was unleashed to stop the will of the universe from messing with humans
i think you're just hearing the loud potemkin mains. me being one of them *PLAY POTEMKIN* jokes aside, potemkin players are big loyalists, so they are just being loud about potemkin
@@Mitsu852 Compared to Xrd strive is definitely slower-paced and slightly less technical to boot. There's a ton of depth still, but it doesn't feel like there are 10,000 distinct unique mechanics for each character on top of the already complex universal mechanics. It all feels really streamlined and while I'll never stop loving Xrd strive is a refreshing change of pace.
@@nuckle5525 whatever you wanna buy it on, pc has the advantage of messing with resolutions, getting better visuals but it just depends on what you want it on
@@frozone1669 I think Ky is easier than Gio if you are familiar with other fighting games. He has tools for everything. Gio's moveset is fairly limited and you have to understand spacing to do well. Gio is basically the character if you never played fighting games before and just wanna press buttons.
@@Aliens1337 that's true, but Ky has a cool sword. and he goes BRRRRRRRRRRRRR so I like him. Sol on the other hand, gives me nightmares +R sol has scared me.
So this marks the beginning of proper GG strive content, expect a lot more to come in the following days and weeks. Next few days will probably be a bit more generalized, and then we will start getting into the weeds with combos and character specific tech. This is a beginning of a new journey and I hope you will all join along in it with me! *edit* I made a new playlist specifically for GG strive guides/tech/combos and the like. I put in all the old beta vids that are still applicable, although some of them(like nagoriyuki stuff) have changed so much ill have to make new videos.
@@jakestavinsky3480 we will get much deeper into character specifics in time no worries there. Right now trying to keep things a bit more universal since its the launch period and honestly this is gonna be many peoples first guilty gear so wanna keep it a bit general for them
@@rooflemonger Yes! It'll be *my* first. Getting into it because some joke was made on twitter that lead to me hearing Smell of the Game, and I was like "This was an epic song. Hey, the game visuals remind me of FighterZ. Oh wait, same people made this? Oh damn, this looks fun. This Zato guy is edgy. I wanna play him" Then I saw this video and decided I can't decide between Eddie and Faust. . .
One note about May: The dolphin charge times for both moves are comically short, only around 30 frames. So you don't have to charge for nearly as long as you think you do, and you can even follow up a Slash Dolphin with another.
I'll tell you why I love Ky: He's the easiest to understand, but not easiest to play. Theres just something refreshing about playing a simple character in a game full of Fausts and Zatos and Leos
It’s super satisfying winning with Ky, cause for the most part you can’t gimmick your opponent to death - you just gotta outplay them with Ky’s strong fundamentals.
I completely agree. Ky feels nearly 'comfortable' to play, and hes a very honest character, especially compared to some of the roster (Totsugeki is drilled into my head at this point). His theme is also banger.
Originally, I was going to main Nagoriyuki, but because I'm a total beginner, I'm looking at Giovanna. I want to be comfortable with the game first before I go to the advanced characters like Nago. Thanks for the guide and I'm looking forward to playing Strive.
The nice thing about this particular guilty gear is that it was geared mainly towards beginners pun intended. So if nagoriyuki is the character you want the main go ahead and play them!!
Nah man gio has a more complicated gameplan than nago so dont worry about that if nago looks cool then use him guaranteed you love it and not think hes that crazy hes blood gauge is just intimidating and it's really not
Honestly, don’t be afraid of Zato. Even though Eddie might be a bit difficult to control, he has big, simple buttons that make him a great beginner character.
I disagree. Zato's pokes have long recovery, as well as extended hurtboxes. You can't mash with him like you do with Ram, Ky or Sol for example. He also has 2 anti-airs with specific utilities instead of one. And most importantly you can't do much with his normals alone. It's not Venom. Eddie usage is required from the start. And by usage I mean something more than spamming Leap. Even noobs will eventually learn to block it.
@@GuiltyGearOnline Eh, maybe they just seemed to click with me personally. Another note is that in Strive Eddie can be controlled with qcf inputs instead of negative edge if that is more intuitive.
@@happycamperds9917 You will be severely limited by using qcf. Negative edge lets you perform Eddie moves at any moment. Even when Zato flies or performs 2H in neutral for example. Qcf input won't let you do that. It's main usage is to cancel Eddie moves into each other.
I picked May just cause she’s really cute and honestly the Dolphins are a nice incidental bonus. But I also like playing Ky and his nice simplicity. He feels really nice to play as
I don't play traditional fighting games much, but the characters in this game seem really enjoyable. Great explanations here, I think I'm most interested in Axel Low.
I really like your style of description, super accessible. Normally I'm not big in Arc System games or other air dasher type games that revolve around the insane combos but I'm tempted to give Strive a try now.
This definitely convinced me to get this game when it drops. It’s gonna be my first guilty gear. I’ve been thinking about it for the past year because I love the art style, but I’m committing to it this Friday. May, Giovanna, Ramlethal Valentine, and Anji Mito look very interesting.
I'm in the same boat! I had a friend show me GG Accent Core and I didn't vibe with it. This game, as I've followed it, has really caught my eye visually speaking. Then I watched people play more and more of it and I had to buy it the launch day :D Chipp, Ky, Sol, May, and Ram for me :D
My main choosing process: wow that Leo guy has a nice song, and I do enjoy his style oooh I do enjoy how this axl plays SHE FIGHTS WITH A DOG?!! and now here am I trying to learn these three
Ah, you see. . . How I chose was: Zato looks cool. Eddie do be lookin' like a cutie. Faust seems so wacky and fun! ;-; I can't choose a main, so I have to play both now
Zato was so fun during the beta. His negative edge stuff can allow for some pretty crazy combos and setups. I can't wait to really be able to sit down and lab his stuff without any time restraints.
Literally didn't even see any other character gameplay but May, Nagoriyuki and Potemkin and decided I would go with big funny mech man. Even just 2 hours in against a friend just as incompetent than I, taking the entire health bar with a couple moves is a playstyle that's clicked with me.
Excellent video!! Gives a great idea of each character's VERY unique playstyle. However, as a Faust main, I think you shouldn't have forgotten to mention his whirpool move, since it's a pretty important tool.
Same animation style as Dragon Ball FighterZ, mostly since it was made by the same company. Funnily enough, I found out that it's not hand drawn animations for the characters. It's 3D modeling. Here's a cool video about the topic. Really interesting stuff. You don't gotta watch it, since it's some random link in a comment, which is kinda sketchy, but like. . . I'll leave it here and hope you trust that I'm just some rando who wants to share some cool knowledge. Anyway, have a wonderful day! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kZsboyfs-L4.html
Can't wait to have proper lab time with this game. I exclusively played Faust in both betas since there was a limited time frame and he's been my main since GGX but even then I feel like I barely scratched the surface with him. But I also wanna mess around with everyone else and just.... AAAARGH, there's not enough hours in the day for me to give this game the attention it deserves.
Definitely maining Giovanna she looks pretty straight forward and fun!! Also I hope Baiken makes her return. As always beautiful video and keep it up!!!
Take this fucking sub man, this is quality content. I've learned I care more about how a character plays than how a character looks due to Tekken 7 and SFV, and you laid out every character so well.
Guilty Gear Strive is one of the first fighting games I've played, and every single character seems so unique. Last fighting game I played was Street Fighter 5. I enjoyed it, but it was hard to get into. Strive, however, has me hooked from the start. I know absolutely nothing about this series, but picking up Strive was easy. As soon as I tried a few characters, I settled on Giovanna (Your video is certainly accurate about her being beginner friendly) She is super fun to use. Very helpful video. Has me more interested in trying the other characters now.
The only character choice I see is: do you want to be the Buster? or the Busted? Loving the content! Looking forward to every video you make for Strive (and VF5, if you happen to sneak a few in there :P)
Great video! This definitely helps me in some matchups. I was Nago and this is the first Guilty Gear game that I have actually tried to learn. So far so good on Floor 9!
I like big damage and I like big swings from big and cool characters. So I'll definetly try to main nagoryuki and/or potempkin :) Also this video is incredible if you just wanna learn the basic gameplan for each character, huge props
ive never played guilty gear and zato appeals to me the most hoping to learn the game while i play him, im also new to fighting games jumping into fighterz everyone told me dont play nappa because of how hard he is and it did take months but when i learned him i learned the game at a different level and i became a better player hoping the same here. Remember dont choose your character based on tier list or difficulty pick them if they look cool or is fun to you. So for me hoping to learn the game with zato, giovanna and ramlethal. Good luck everyone
so far i love ramlethal, potemkin, and i'm trying to decide on a third. i originally wanted to do leo cause he seems cool af and i am a leo but apparently everyone hates him? (people also say ramlethal is "easy" but people dont seem to really hate her like they hate some other characters).
Looking forward to starting a new fighting game journey. Your channel guided me through my first "real" fighting game in DBFZ so thanks for your guides over the years and can't wait to learn more!
This helped a lot. Haven't played many fighting games since the days of the first Blazblue, haven't played GG since the PS2. Gonna check out Nagoriyuki, Axel and Faust first I think! Nagoriyuki's little bit of blood gauge management seems exciting to me and has a good vampire feel
My method is selecting every character I'm interested in. Then fool around for about 5 minutes in training. If I get a vibe, I'll put em on the bench and move to the next character until I try everyone out.
I've mained Eddie/Zato-1 since the earlier games because he's good long range and close range especially if you know how to abuse Eddie's mobile shadows. Seeing how he's 2 characters now, but the attacks being press and let go, i think he'll be amazing in the right hands.
dude i love ur videos! i'm new to the guilty gear saga! i will pick axl and never look back! tomorro i'm gonna grind him, i need to learn the move set and the combos. Thank you so mutch!
I died of laughter when you described Potempkin as "He's slow, doesn't move around so good". Sounded like you were describing a barn animal or something😂😂😂
Probably not something very important, but if you play axl and want to impress your friends, the official name for his weapon is "Kusarigama" which from japanese literally translates to "Chain and sickle". Just a little fun fact
