The best beginner video. I never comment on things but I felt compelled to deliver to you how helpful this was and how well made it was. You rock, man!

I really appreciate you taking the time to put this video together. I’m new to GGST and new to fighting games in general and I’m finding this game to be very fun, but very very difficult at the same time. The game does a great job with its tutorial missions but let’s be honest, they have something like 60 or more tutorial missions. It’s hard to remember what I’ve learned because it’s just so much. And then trying to apply what I’ve learned is even more difficult. I’m sticking with it because I really want to dive in and come to enjoy fighting games. It’s videos like this that I need

This guide is really amazing. Nowhere else I've looked has explained all of these basic functions as clearly and simply as you have. My day has been saved, thank you very much sir.

Just wanted to say that I've used this guide in the past cause my controller setup is the exact same. As someone who hasn't played in almost a year on PC I got back into it due to Slayer's reveal (finally) and managed to actually snag a few wins. This is such a great beginner tutorial and if I may add now Strive allows you to make your own combos so get this layout and start practicing those user combo trials!

I'd actually recommend swapping H and Dash. With Dash on R1, it's incredibly easy to RC Dash by pressing K, P, and S immediately afterward. I had Dash on circle for a while, but I found it too slow to reliably RRC Dash from raw specials. Edit: Nvm. I didn't realize you were using the RC button.

@@kingterrible6470 Sorry for the late response. I try to avoid L1 and L2 on sticks because of their positioning. They often require pinky or ring finger presses to hit reliably because of how far away they are. Some locals and tourneys also have weird rules about 8 button sticks. Kind of dumb considering most of them also allow hitboxes, but that's another topic altogether. I hope this provided the insight you were looking for. It's mostly a preference thing, so I wouldn't worry about it too much if you're used to your setup. If you do choose to go this route, I'd still recommend using the dash button. That thing fucking rules.

You are the opposite of terrible. Awesome video and explanation of button layout for an arcade stick. This video is what I needed to understand some of the deeper mechanics of GGS and even Accent Core which I own on the Switch.

Guilty Gear is one of the best fighting series out there. I wish more people would play it. Seems like Strive is doing a great job at inviting new players into the series. Thank you for video! Great explanation and examples!

Thank you so much for this. I'd pick GG ip and put it back down so many times over the years because the buttons never made sense to me. 6 button or 4 button fighting games I got with no problem, but 5 was throwing me off BIG time. Couldn't make any logical sense of it. This has me even more encouraged than ever to pick it back up!

I actually got quite used to the default button layout on my arcade stick, although it took a bit of time.^^ Haven't considered it at first, but the default layout also makes rapid cancelling and bursting inputs feel more natural in terms of my default hand position.
@kingterrible6470
@kingterrible6470 2 года назад
Nice! Did you set a button for the Burst or Roman cancel macro or do you always perform the input?

So I'm new to fighting games and am playing with a controller, and am noticing my left index finger/thumb gets sore after a half hr ish. Does playing on an arcade joystick help with that or with inputs?
@kingterrible6470
@kingterrible6470 3 года назад
For me, the arcade stick is much more comfortable. I have had no more thumb pain since making the switch! As far as my inputs go, I feel that switching to stick has definitely helped me hit special moves more consistently! It takes a while to train your muscle memory, but for me it has been worth it!
@kingterrible6470
@kingterrible6470 3 года назад
A few cons to the arcade stick, my movement seems slower since I have to move my arm/wrist in a larger motion for jumping/dashing etc instead of the shorter thumb motions (the dash button helps counteract this though). Also, I have a harder time doing specials for "charge" characters (Leo and May in GGST), so I need to practice those a bit more on stick.

I have the same fight stick! Do your buttons ever feel "loose"? Like its not a tight, springy feel to them?

How about keyboard layout?
@SoundToxin
@SoundToxin 7 месяцев назад
Bind the right side buttons to UIOP and JKL; and for movement you can copy leverless arcade controllers with left/down/right on either ASD or SDF depending on your preference and then put up on the spacebar. Just copy an arcade controller's button layout to those keyboard positions.

@@SoundToxin Or for movement you can use QWD too (Q for left, W for down and D for right) for jump/up you can choose use Space or E button.
