@@inazumatan7050 not necessarily the lower saturation but rather how the colours are done. It’s not just a simple blocky colour, it’s a small gradient that higher quality animes have. It’s not a huge change but it adds extra. Another is the finer out lines and details, which like before, is a quality more high quality animes have. Now obviously not all of these are the only things that make an anime high quality but they are things that can’t be done without a big budget
Fausts taunt/idle animation with the wilting flower is wonderfully subtle with expert attention to detail. This blows me away far more than the extravagant supers (great as they are).
@@gsegarra21 Nothing is explained about him in the story, but clues from how he acts and the varying tones of his theme leaves a lot to speculate about his new condition
@@gsegarra21 the only bit of screentime he got in the storymode was during the "WHERE-ARE-THEY-NOW?" segment and apparently he's still just walking with chronus in the desert
@@gsegarra21 now that Another Story is out. We now know that Faust burnt himself out in an attempt to save Delilah which lead to his soul leaving his body.
I noticed Strive REALLY amplified the 'Impact' or 'Heavy feel' of the supers. Heck in comparison it feels like the old Overdrives are amplified special moves, where Strives supers are rather big events.
I beg to differ. The animation in strive is a bit too clean fir my taste, to the point that it's kinda boring to look at. I prefer my fighting game characters to look more stylistic too. When i saw inos hat in strive it was kinda disappointing, her hat looked less iconic than in xrd, and souls overdrives are now way too quick, i liked how in xrd you got a better view of his transformation.
@@vennece it's no small detail or anything like that. Most male characters got buffer and bigger bodies and their heads shrunk. Sol is probably the most in your face example of it. Can't say I like it, it looks too comical and cartoon at this point.
@@rachetmarvel931 Sol looks like a boulder of meat now. It looks comical, like a caricature. In previous games they made his body very muscular but he had realistic proportions. He looked cool, like somebody who worked for that body and for that strength. Now he looks like a roided up muscle monster. They started to do that shit in sign but in strive they took that and bloated him even more. That's not even his own problem, same thing with Chipp. Does his new roided up body fit him because he's a brute? The design literally changed to have weird proportions for most characters, they encroached into cartoony proportions in Strive.
Reason why is because Overdrive attack has smoother transition, visually more exaggerated between the white, black and [insert color] so... yeah.... design wise, well, it depends on the person, there are people who prefer simple is better (literally the first lesson in character design) or more is more so.... personal preferences I guess but... I do like strive’s design more
@@skunthundler you don't use instakill to instakill, you use instakill to disrespect people and made them wait a minute of cutscene or goof around with your pals.
I was impressed in 2014, and I'm impressed in 2021. No other fighting game will look better than Strive until the next arc system fighting game is out...
Xrd, a Ps3 game, still look better than every single current fighting game (If you ignore Strive obviously). That's the power of a groundbreaking Art Style.
Xrd is faithful to the original 2d pose and animations, Strive is trying to break the tradition and fully embraced 3d space. Personaly I like Xrd because I like the original 2d style.
Same, though even Xrd looked kind of alien to me after years of playing XX Accent Core. Though reflecting on it after seing Strive, Xrd wasn't that far off from the original 2d Guilty gear
huh? They're just improving animation and art quality. If they embraced 3d they could've just gone to the Street fighter route. It's literally still using the same style of animation as XRD
@@SupaPoopaScoopa hard disagree strives eddie is just wrong, it doesnt even look like Eddie or what his personality was it just looks like a blob with a face on it.
@@notimeforcreativenamesjust3034 of course Eddie would look like an amalgam of shadows not having a clear shape to him until ordered by Zato, though it makes sense he would look less threatening post resurrection since it apparently mellowed out during the dimensional prison. I agree his Xrd Eddie would fit better during XX where it was on pilot and in full aggression
@@ArcCaravan yeah, the last one killed me. i like ramlethal and i think she was cute in Xrd too, but with her no emotion part, pretty and overall better outfit. i like the lazer even if too much cute for her, but the end face with the dog is too much
I don't like that. It feels less natural, less dynamic. It just ruins the emersion for me. I like supers like you would see in third strike rather than sfv, to name an example.
@@shirothegamer7574 I like the camera work this way better because it rlly gives the supers a more heavy impact feel that it should have, considering they are supers after all
@@TheSilverazo guilty gear has all ways been super stylish I mean guilty gears is very well known for its over the top designs so this style still very much fits the game and I'm all for honestly been having a blast with the game
@@OhNoTheFace well cause "ride the lightning" is an English saying, so of course he’ll say it in English but in a Japanese accent. Kinda like how in English, we often use the word "Karaoke" (for example) which is a Japanese word but we pronounce it in an English accent rather than a Japanese one.
Prefiro o Guilty Gear XRD, muito mais animação, o do Guilty Gear Strive é tão simples e menos emocionante nos especiais. O Guilty Gear XRD tem animações de tirar o fôlego.
In this case i like em both equally, cause in this case xrd has the anime approach while strive took a more "realistic" style, which it does pretty damn well
Outside the Instakills the supers feel kind eh or feel like no impact Like Rev 2s HPB doesn't hold a candle to strives after seeing it even if it's a bit old. Strive just just feels like they gave some of the supers a bit more "ump" or impact what with the camera angles and animation. I know more budget and time spent working on the game but it's what feel personal.
Agreed. Most supers in Rev2 dont have impact because of the sound choices, camera and even voice acting. Just compare Sol's Tyranr Rave and Ky's Ride The Lightning. Absolute
Combo's were far longer and important in Xrd plus you could do more than 1 super in some combos. Strives Supers would be insufferable if they happened as often as Xrds. It was a functionality thing as much as a design thing.
@@bat-erd842 doesn’t change the fact xrd just has more extra stuff going on and bombastic events whereas strive feels so one tone and very bland in terms of stages and moves
@@mallow2902 yes, but I think what Emilia is saying is "beyond a lot." I noticed that as well. while the damage for everything else in strive did significantly increase, it was not at an astronomical level
@@patootie3529 May's damage is absurd right now, and while they aren't returning characters, Nagoriyuki and Goldlewis have pretty wild damage output too. The "Sol is overpowered" circlejerk is such a dead horse at this point.
Some supers got some way more oomph like Potemkin and Zato but I’m really not a fan of how a lot of the strive supers can be boiled down to a quick zoom in with really smooth animation of them moving a bit. I really like the cool camera work of Ramlethal and Axl in Xrd with the camera following her hand to Lucifero and then on the camera going through Axl’s chains on his. There are aspects of both that I enjoy
I think Leo’s both look better in Xrd too. The way he turns around with that stressed teeth gritting expression makes you think he’s going all out while in Strive it’s more like he’s making a funny face. Like you said a lot of the strive animation is smooth but it feels less well directed and less choreographed like they wanted to show off how smooth it is without thinking about how to angle the camera or what movements the characters would be doing. Like Ram’s Xrd Calvados is her handing the situation over to Lucifero and getting him to combine, with a dispassionate look of “It’s time to end this.” while in Strive she just kinda flails about and puffs out her cheeks.
@@rockinjoker07 yeah it’s def godlike and insane how much attention they put into those parts. However I do think they can do the same but with more interesting camera work/choreography like with Anji, Chipp and Potemkin for example. You can have smooth animation for a section, but if it sacrifices dynamic, hype shots then personally I don’t prefer it
I got Rev 2 because it really interested me and it was on a mega sale awhile back for 6 dollars! After putting in about 200ish hours this game is in my favorite fighting games hall of fame, all of the characters are unique and well designed. This game also taught me techniques that I never even heard of before, and the music is top notch. Strive is okay for me personally, I’m not a fan of the new designs for the most part, (besides maybe May and Ky) I’m also not a fan of the realistic art style, I feel like they went too bold with it and I think they realized that later on considering the fact that their later games use a similar style to XRD.
I must say:the Instant Kills are still mesmerizing to view to this day. It's a real shame Strive had some cutbacks despite it being a graphical improvement towards it predecessor. Xrd has more vision and style overall. Strive leaves the aesthetic impression on it's audience and chooses to be less ambitious with it's presentation.
@@Ricardo-fm5wt yeah, I know, right... ...? Gyro! Is that you?! Damn, good to see you! Can't wait for Part 6! I wanna see that Gyro Spin of yours so bad💪
I'd wager that we might have had a different end product had Happy Corona not terrorized the world by storm. We did sit through a few delays after all.
There must have been something better to replace Faust kancho cuz the wheel chair hitting on the shin just doesn't cut it really they should have kept the kancho.
That's why Im obsessed with Japanese animation, the creativity is just unbelievably overwhelming... One of the best characters designs are in this videogame.... They should make a anime series of this though🤔 I would watch without a doubt.
if theres one thing i especially dislike in strive its the huge difference from "gameplay" to "cutscene". The characters look completely different sometimes.
I liked May's XRD model more... But i really like what they did to her hair in this game. Also, there's this bizarre looking filter in Strive that makes XRD looks more lively in comparison. God, i miss the insta kills (Not saying that its worse just because it don't have them, but i really liked them.)
yeah strive is more pretty with more detail but less lively even with more frames. i like the face and hair of may in strive, but ram was much prettier to me in Xrd (aside the outfit, the face too, in strive they tried too much to cutize her when in Xrd was perfect)
@@tobasaful she has a different hair design in both games. In XRD looks like she have something holding her hair, in strive her entire hair is down. You can notice by looking at her XRD model from the front in her battle intro. It's like she was younger? I don't know...
I honestly don't like Guilty Gear STRIVE Guilty Gear Xrd is lot better than Guilty Gear STRIVE in Guilty Gear STRIVE too much missing Characters and Main content Instant Kills *Destroyed* of this game is missing dislike Gameplay....Guilty Gear STRIVE's such a Miser game financer they did not give you a full gameplay i dislike Guilty Gear STRIVE.
I agree, IMO STRIVE has a lack of soul and of course a lack of content, all of what was in Xrd is half gone in STRIVE just for overdrives with an animation of 60 FPS just for 3 seconds, and I prefer for some characters the design of Xrd, like May’s outfit looks way less imaginative compared to the outfit in Xrd, it’s just my opinion but what happened to STRIVE sucks overall they sell their creativity for some expensive visual effects.
Have y’all seen the episode movie in the game Strive , is pretty neat , I wonder if there’s going to be more story , I enjoyed the episodes , I watch it all in a morning till afternoon .Happy Chaos.
I want to watch it but Strive is my first Guilty gear game so I wouldn't understand the story. Does anyone know how I can get caught up so I can understand everything?
Yeah I was really confused on the line of action in Xrd, like did he do a flip or the camera just spin around, but in StrIVe he simply just rocket boosts you to heaven and pile drives you, it's more clear and impactful
im still think Strive have better soundtrack but the problems with vocal track is its getting boring real fast Wish there were a dynamic soundtrack sytem like DMC , vocal only play when you achieved high combo count
I mean Strive was always planned to be more neutral based, therefore slower. But yeah I mostly agree too, the soundtrack although great, is very hit or miss, and IKs were always dope
xrd looks more like a stylized Trigger anime, meanwhile Strive is more like a high-quality slighty more realistic anime akin to Violet Evergarden or Fate/Zero. I remember an interview that confirms it's pretty much intentional, they got more inspiration from live-action movies for Strive and the vibe reflects a bit of that.
Tell that to soul. You can barely see his transformation in strive. And i like the way in xrd he stands still after transfirming before the overdrive actually starts, makes him look like a boss.
@@valentds DI is a full transformation, not an IK. They just transformed before IK for continuity with strive’s DI super event. You can super with DI in Xrd too.
Some super in Strive feel so weak compare to Xrd , maybe because of speed and camera angle . But animation and movement , Strive look better than Xrd .
Complete opposite for me. Both of chipp's supers, Zato's big eddie shark, and even the potemkin Aegis reflector have had substantial improvements. Ride the lightning especially has way more oomph in Strive than Xrd
Still can't believe anime graphics (the real thing) are present in games like these now. It used to be only seen from movies and the likes but seeing them happening in real-time is ecstatic.
Faust was and is still the best character to this day. Which other fighting character has a super which is litterely mixing cups and punishing the enemy with anal stretching
Using chipp's invisibility taunt in a match is so unpredictable because if he does another taunt rather than being invisible you are vulnerable to every forms of attacks but if you're lucky and perfectly execute the invisibility taunt, you can continue attacking your opponent by doing HS. This is an extremely high risk high reward thing to do ngl lmfao.
Who would know to just add a pair of black bar on top and bottom the screen will make it so much better. Pls it's a joke, The strive overrides are the most beautiful Animations I've ever seen, but I think the camera movements and black bars have some work on building that movie feels
Ngl, Strive looks better than Xrd, but I prefer Xrd's look as its much more cleaner with non intrusive/excessive VFX like the hit sparks, Particles and no Motion blur Also the UI is better in Xrd. I know we all agree on that
Unpopular opinion: Xrd had more soul while Strive feels more commercial. It just feels stripped compared to XX/Xrd. It looks really good, but feels off. I dunno.
@@genbeuden2114 The UI looks like 90% of other anime fighters, the game feels super floaty, the characters have barely any of the unique interactions that have been around since as far back as X, the game flexes the 3d, but has half of the variety that xrd had visually thanks to so many moves being removed, the little "metal" shit like blood and washed out, crazy character designs got traded for a cleaner, more anime-fan friendly aesthetic. I can go on if you want. It way TOO streamlined from the gameplay to the visuals. I've been playing the series for 18 years and even 100%'d Isuka, so maybe my expectations were just a bit high, but Strive doesn't feel like Guilty Gear. It feels like a game with Guilty Gear characters in it.
@@restlessalciel3285 I disagree about everything but I'm to lazy to argue So I'm just gonna say that guilty Gear xrd is just as "anime-fan friendly" as Strive if it isn't more. And that blood in anime fighting game just looks dumb to me
Well title say "overdrive" but you show "instakill" too and in new game there is no instakill, so I think it may good to compare with just "old overdrive" with "new overdrive"
Strive Faust: looks like he came out of a horror comic, hits people's shins with a wheelchair at full power Xrd Faust: looks like he came out of a weird comedy cartoon, "guess where the angel is or get a free prostate exam"
Fir me the cleaner the animation the more boring to lok at. I love it when there are minor imperfections in character animation, it adds more personality. That's why people still play games like samurai shodown 2 and mk3.
@@shirothegamer7574 to me, imperfections are merely imperfections that the creators obviously don't mean for them to look exactly like that (which is why I think they actually do lack personality). seeing the perfected forms in their beauty, as how the developers wish for them to really be, is the one I pay more attention to
