My husband Guitar Legend Dick Dale is about to turn 80 in May. We both have been battling Major medical issues for years. We do it all together and never leave each others side. A Love Story. We love our Dick Dale Music Lovers. Thank You for putting thumbs up on all Dick Dale RU-vid Videos!
Wow! Have the greatest respect for you and your husband. I just started learning guitar, he has been a true inspiration! Hope he is doing well. Best Wishes!!!
80 years old and still shredding it! Your husband is one of my heroes--in fact, he's the main reason why I picked up the guitar after playing keyboards for 20 years.
Yes everyone, the guitar is strung in reverse. Dick was totally left-handed and learned to play on an upside-down, right-hand guitar. Rather than relearn everything when left-handed guitars became available, he simply strung all of his guitars in reverse order.
Well, it doesn't matter which way around you start learning. Picking and fretting are both equally unfamiliar to both hands. Give beginners both guitars to try, and not all of them would naturally use their dominant hand for picking. Whichever way you go, you still have to use the goofy hand for half the work.
I play the same way, comes from being given an accoustic when i was young. Naturally hold it upside down as im left handed so the high E is on the top. Then when i wanted an electric, the tone/vol knobs, strap mounts etc are all in the wrong position. SO i buy a left handed electric and the strings are then upside donwe. So l restring right handed and fit a custom nut.
@@tavicotavio Love all 3 players but they're virtuoso players, which doesn't automatically mean completely unique. Dick is playing a lefty guitar strung as a right handed guitar just flipped upside down, even thinking about it makes me confused.
Onion Head that’s exactly how I play too. I’m right handed but for some reason playing left handed felt so much more natural. And I didn’t know any better when I was beginning to play the guitar, so I just learned to play upside down and backwards. Now I get a left handed guitar and flip the strings and the nut around like Dick has it
@@joelfortin6634 This is the most retarded thing I've ever seen, if someone references JFK for example do we need to make mention of the fact that his head was blown off?
Sad to hear Dick Dale passed. I'm bummed for a minute, then plug in my guitar and play surf sounds I was inspired by the man. Glad to have had the honor of being able to see him play everytime I got the chance. He always had time to stay and talk after his shows. A true gentleman in all aspects of the word. He had no borders, was genuinely inclusive to all. I witnessed this. Glad I have those memories.....and of course, the tunes baby! 🤙 Dick Head por vida.
He probably can’t fathom how you play it standard ha ha, but that is interesting. I’ve seen one other guy in real life play that way. It threw me off at first. Really cool music either way
This is how I play guitar. I’m left handed but I learned to play on a right handed guitar when I was a kid. That’s how you get upside down and backwards
When Leo Fender first gave Dick Dale to try out the Stratocaster, Leo started to laugh as DIck played the right handed guitar, left handed, upside down.......Dick Dale was an amazing musician.......R.I.P., he is surfing with the best of them now !
I saw him in concert about 12 years ago. Phenomenal show! He signed CD's that we bought and took a couple of minutes to converse with us, not rushed about it, he is a very nice person.
I was there at age 15 watching this legend do what he does best! He was so humble and kind for the meet and greet afterwards. One of the best memories ever 🙏🏼
That pause in the middle, and the absence of clapping the second he stopped is the sign of a phenomenal performer and a gracious audience. Absolutely legendary.
RIP, Dick...King of Surf Guitar Music. When I watch Pulp Fiction for about 2 dozen times, I will think of you and Miserlou. A tremendous guitarist! Speed on fire!
With most older musicians their playing is just an approximation of what they used to do. Somehow Dick Dale somehow still delivers the goods. At speed, using crazily thick strings, while suffering a barrage of illnesses and issues. Massive props to him.
Dick Dale is amazing. The fact that he plays upside down and backwards and still becomes a living legend. all guitarist till this day should follow his influence.
Had the pleasure of seeing Dick Dale in a bar venue in Bakersfield several years ago....What a guitarist....! Thanks for the great memories Mr. Dale, and may you Rest In Peace...
DICK DALE IS ONE OF THE GREATEST MUSICIANS AND GUITARISTS OF ALL TIME! He pioneered surf rock and the popular music of the 1960s, changing the course of music history forever. His skills have always been awe-inducing and he never lost his talents. I could listen to his albums on repeat forever. LONG LIVE MISERLOU!
Frank Mersch It's because when he learned to play, he played a right-handed, but flipped it since he is left-handen, thus placing the string in the "wrong" order. Now days he is so used to it, so he has the guitars made like that :)
RIP Dick, the King of surf guitar and a great player in general, sorry I have only just found you but I will try to catch all your video's now, thank you for the fabulous sounds you have left us with!
I'm sorry to have read of your husband's passing. Hope you are doing well, and I know that the King of Surf Guitar is smiling down on all of us from heaven. The acoustic version of 'Tribal Thunder' is probably my favorite. God Bless!
I had the honor of seeing him at Bumbershoots in Seattle. they asked him to tone it down since he was covering up the other shows (Los Lobos) he said if you can't run with the big dogs don't get on the stage and played even louder. it was great. a true legend. thank you for sharing your gift.
Love this! Never seen Mr. Dale play before. As an old dog, i used a new trick and turned my screen upside-down so i could try to figure out what the heck he’s doing.
Many of my friends are musicians and I was lucky enough to be asked if I wanted to go to concerts of there favorite musicians. So I've was able to see many of the great one and now have an even better appreciation of what I witnessed. This includes see Dick Dale live. What an awesome time it was
He double timed everything because he could play faster and out of boredom! And he used reverb a lot to get that Surf Guitar 🎸 Sound! A pioneer and Guitar Icon. He helped Leo Fender develop bigger and more powerful amps to handle his powerful style of playing. An American Original! RIP Dick Dale- King of the Surf Guitar 🎸
The earliest surf players were all originally country players. Duane Eddy, al casey and larry collins who taught dale how to play who was taught by Joe maphis who could really do string runs at a incredibly fast rate.
What an absolute legend. This man will live on through his music for generations to come. And did anyone else realize he plays with all of the strings backwards?! (low E is on the bottom... what?!)
magnificent..worked w/ him on "Back to the Beach".....and in the early 60s 3 x a week saw him at his dances at Harmony Park in Anaheim with my best friend of my lifetime, Shelley!
I had the pleasure of seeing Dick Dale many times at Joey Harrisons surf club in Ortley Beach, NJ. When hurricane Sandy took the surf club out to sea we would go to Brooklyn NY to see him. The talent, the connection with his fans, and the vibes at each venue were unmatched by anyplace I've ever been. The man passed in 2019 and on that day two legends went silent. Dick Dale and his guitar, "The Beast". I wonder where that famous guitar is now.
