2 years ago i stumbled across pearl jam and alice in chains (i used to listen to hip hop mostl of my life) and 1 year ago i started to learn guitar with lesson by you and now i can play alot of songs i love - this is what was missing in my life Thank you Ryan
I learned this WRONG over a year ago and I knew it didn't sound right, so thank you! I always loved this song... My AIC Unplugged CD is stuck in the car CD player so I hear it every day haha.
that's funny! I turned my car CD player on for the first time in like 7 years the other day and a CD of my pearl jam tribute band was in it. that was a trip.
I just recently discovered you because I decided to learn a bunch of new songs. And almost every song I've searched for, you've got it covered. Very nice teacher and your personality makes you relatible which is always nice 😊
thanks to you I was able to learn already two songs of Alice in Chains.. in just a week.. thank you for your wonderful videos, they are really useful for me.
Brilliant lesson, this song means so much to me. Takes me back to some sad times but I still love it. I can play most of it but I can’t work out the rhythm of the last part using the power chords. You’re a good lad Ryan thank you.
RL - the Grunge tutor. So good to know that the last (pre-autotune) true musical movement still affects people artistically and emotionally. 30 years have gone so fast...
My Sunday: alright, let's learn Down in a Hole! *reads tab* what in tarnation! Too complex for a newbie, let's go to Ryan, he'll explain it to me like to a 4-years-old! *30 min later* MY NAME IS JERRY CANTRELL Thank you, Ryan!
another.classic AIC lesson, you are the man!!! Cant wait for your lesson "DIED" by AlC, laynes last song, and jerry cantrell kills it!!! You are the best teacher on youtube, rock on Ryan!!!
Ha, we are the polar opposite players in regards for our pick love. I just love the softer sound I get out of playing with the fingers and love finger picking as you can really make a single chord so much brighter. Thanks for the quick lesson as I’m going through an AIC binge which I always avoided because I love singing and Layne’s range always scared me away, LOL
Dude! I just stumbled across your channel. Thanks so much for putting this stuff up. You've made it pretty simple to understand, which makes a great change from most how to play vids.
Trying to relearn piano after a couple decade hiatus. I’m trying to practice ear playing melodies that I know and love. So glad to have found your channel. ❤
When i first started learning this i did it with a pick and it was hard for me. Years later when i finally picked up finger picking and tried this again, I found it is much, much, easier to finger pick the intro. Jerry does the intro with his fingers and then switches to a pick. Persoanal preference but give finger picking the intro a try even if you suck at it. It does get easier.
well i dont even have a guitar but at this point i am planning for almost a year to buy one and in anticipation i keep watching aic covers and lessons. and then i found you my man. i have zero knowledge of music theory, so i dont understand most, but i can see the effort you put in teaching us. and like most grunge lads, you too are underrated. but i dont care. thanks to you and your channel and your efforts for existing for noobs like me.
Ryan Lendt one for the requested list. Song of your choice that only uses 3 cords. I like musicians that do a lot with a little for example Pearl Jam’s not for you. Easy and fun to play.
I would love to have a time machine to go back to the moment with AIC decided to play every single one of their songs detuned and witness that conversation
Ryan Lendt ain’t that the truth. One of my rock n roll dreams are coming true...sort of....I just found out Blind Melon are playing here this summer in a day festival ....I know nothing about the new lead singer..... but I’m going to be so excited to see the,
Justin Taylor Copy that...I’m all thumbs.....Ryan makes everything look easy....it gives me hope.....I’m still horrible....but much happier for trying ...hope you are too!!
Anam, Ryan gets on my nerves because I think that doesn’t look very hard. Then I try to play the song!! There’s a few songs that I’m determined to learn, this is one of them. I feel your pain but I’m sure we’ll get there in the end.
@@RyanLendt Jerry Cantrell released a new single a few weeks back called Atone. Very country and tuned to an open chord (I think) which is a bit intimidating for me.
I've decided that when my steel string acoustic guitar is finished being built THIS is the first song I am going to play on it. On a fun tangential sidebar: I play with my fingers so I'll get to practice it on my classical guitar :D (win-win)!
When I am playing the song by lead belly “Where did you sleep last night” but Nirvanas version. I like to do a bend just like that on the E string G note after the Bmajor chord. Sometimes I will pluck it three times. But I like the bend better. You know what I’m talking about? I can’t remember what Kurt does. I was listening to an interview with B.B. King and the person asked him if he will still practice something on guitar. He said his bends. Same with Clapton. He said the same thing.
Hey Ryan I just figured out I could use a looper to play this live so I don't have to finger pick and sing lol, but then I realized it has the dm key change thing so I'm here to learn that change😅
@@RyanLendt I did the Am G D in the looper along with Dm C G and it actually sounded like it went together but I'm still working on whether or not it would work as a live looper song. Eventually I'll do a live and see what happens lol
I had it almost 100% figured it on my own. The only things I do differently are Dm when you play the D power chord and I go to F at the end of the chorus as there is no way for me to sing "my wings have been so denied " and do the riff at the same time
yeah it could very well be a Dm, I didn't hear a third in there so I just did the power chord - just practice patting your head and rubbing your tummy and you'll get it :P
Great lesson, learning this one now. Wouldn’t it be easier to say picking the low note would be the root of the chord as opposed to sometimes first finger on the low note? If that makes any sense haha. Nice work again, taught me a lot!
Awesome cover!!!!! Do u think that u could maybe do a cover of Marker In The Sand? It has always been one of my favorites and it has such an important meaning!!!!! (Like all PJ stuff)
Love this, Ryan, as I do all your demos. Random request: Josh Rouse "Laughter". It sounds simple but I can't quite get it ... Please give your masterful input!
I love “Travis picking” for some reason. You must not like to play “Dust in the Wind”:) lol. I spent a little time just practicing my Travis picking for bit. I really like it for some reason. So I was pleasantly surprised when you said that about this being picked. I had forgot all about this song too. I am off today so I’m going to learn this. Play around with all day. I love when I see a song I want to learn and haven’t even realized it yet. Untill I see it. I hated what happen to their lead singer. Lane I think is his name? And Mike, Their bass player. It was sad!
hahahaha I absolutely HATE playing dust in the wind. I should do a video on my least favorite songs of all time :P Enjoy playing this one Seek - yeah the rock 'n roll lifestyle takes too many :(
You'd think so... but not the case! I believe that's how Thalia tells you to do it. I wanted to be cool like them :) But I am mightily sick of seeing their ads on youtube.
Can't we just keep default tuning and play /sing it that way lol? Wouldn't it just sound different but have the same great sequence of notes/chords? Would be a pain to re-tune and back each time you play this song
you 100% may do that. you'll only run into issues if you try to play along with the song. The solution to this problem is become a rock star with 15 guitars and a person whose sole job it is to make sure your guitars are in the correct tune. I have 9 guitars and a cat... I'm getting closer.
I bought some Elixer 80/20 polyweb extra light. Never played extra light before. How are they?Im Goning to wait to but them on Untill one breaks. From your experience using different types string. Which is way more then me:).Thats is why I’m asking. What’s the pro and cons of extra lighter strings?
I hate you for making this look so easy, lol. Just kidding. Another great lesson. Thanks for sharing. I think this one might be easier than Rooster. Going to give this one a whirl.
I wish I could find like some underground source for strings. Or win a life time supplie or something. Or find a “underground string dealer” lol Boxes of premium strings at a good price. Haha!
