Whoa man. Who are you? This quality of teaching should not only have 40,000 views... as impressive as that is. This helped me a lot, really appreciate your content.
Ryan Lendt, I cant tell ya how much I appreciate your channel man. I’ve learned so many grunge songs from you and that just means the world to be able to play so many endless hits
I am in awe at your teaching! I get it! I get it! I finally get it! I am in tears right now man! I have wanted to play this song so bad and you just made it click! Incredible, really thank you man.
I'm really glad that made sense to you Tim... I was watching it back with a friend trying to get "me" to teach us this song and I couldn't make heads or tails of it! But i do recall fully understanding it when I made the video :)
thank you so much man!! you're the first guy to actually explain the whole pattern so nicely. this is such a beautiful but confusing song to play. and i absolutely love your positive energy in this video, really adds to the whole teaching charm!
Freakin AWESOME teacher. First timer on your channel and will continue to take lessons from you! I played clarinet for 7 years and being able to read music along with learning your notes on any instrument is key to success... I like to play guitar and don't know the notes so playing along by video is extremely overwhelming because other videos dont have the " breakdown" like you did. I'm trying to play by finger placement memory. Your breakdown of the keys played makes things much easier to play and doesn't seem so daunting. I appreciate your method and love this song! Thank You!
wow thanks for all that Tammy! As you know, recognizing patterns lets you categorize things so you don't have to memorize nearly as much. Great to have you here, and good luck!!
You keep on proving to me with every video you upload that I have the exact same taste in music as you do. Isn't that awesome?? Glad I found you!!! Best tutorials in RU-vid
Hey ,cheers for all you're awesome work ,I bought my first guitar at age 45 ,12 months ago during COVID and have about 10 songs of yours under my belt now .Nutshell was always on the list so thanks man :)
Just been revisiting this lesson to have another crack at it. The damn rhythm drove me mad last time but I’ve finally cracked it thanks to you Ryan. Cheers my friend.
Thank you RU-vid algorithm for putting this on my feed. Well, it was actually the Rooster video which made me search for this. Great vids dude! All the stuff I like to play, presented in a well educated laid back humorous kind of way.
First of all Ryan, I've been trying to learn guitar for like 15 years or more. This year I went thru a seperation and buckled down and I swear your videos are the only reason it's taken this time. Thank you. You're a great great teacher, I wish I could come to your classes in person, and you deserve ALL the money. 2nd: you're funny I love your jokes, nuances, and puns. I hope you're living life with someone who appreciates all those things! Because you're a clever kid. Thanks for bringing joy to my year.
Salvation in guitar, stay strong brother I'm sorry to hear that but when one door closes and all that :) Thank you for your kind words, and for being here - and I'm very happy to report that I do live with that person :)
Playing guitar, and writing music. Has got me through a divorce, a foreclosure, deaths of loved ones and all the pitfalls of my life.that and a good sense of humor and a true love of life. And lastly but not least faith in God. Rock on brotha and God Bless us all. B.
My drum teacher looks like you. Y’all are dopplegangers and y’all are both great teachers. Thanks I’ve been trying to get this song for awhile. I kept getting stuck by the funky rhythm. But now I got it!
I was just going to ask you to do this song, and then I checked and boom there it is. Much better lesson than the one I first used somewhere else. Thanks for doing so many great songs.
Just earned yourself a new subscriber. Thank you so so much for that rhythm explanation. It seems so simple to understand once I see the answer, but I wouldn't/couldn't have come up with it myself. Way to few RU-vid tutorial videos include the rhythm/timing - and they truly, truly should. Can't wait to check out some of your other vids.
I appreciate you GAL - thank you for that. I remember it took me two passes spanning 6 months looking at this song with a student to finally be able to articulate the rhythm. Of course in my focusing on that I neglected to mention that the C is more often a Cadd9 than a regular C (depending on the performance one refers to)... but hopefully everyone can figure that out. Oh, and careful not to eat too much fresh fruit. Cheers new friend welcome!
Another great lesson! There’s my GENIE! My wife loved this song, I bought her this dvd when we first got together. She wanted that dvd more than flowers, that’s how I know I got the right one! My favorite song to play, just cannot get rhythm correct, now I can! Great rhythm instruction too! Thank You! This was originally with a 12 string, Right?? Can be played on 12 string and sounds perfect!
You remind me so much of this man I’m in love with it’s distracting 😩 This is my favorite song lately. Want to learn this. I have the Yousician app but there really are not any songs that I like to learn on it but I’m learning.
Rather than doing a Cmaj you should do Cadd9 in place of Cmaj. I’m pretty sure that’s the chord that’s played on the record and it makes the song way easier because your ring finger is on the B string on the third fret for literally the entire song. For beginners I imagine this would hurt pretty bad at least for awhile, but you gotta build your calluses up at some point and this song is pretty fun to play so I’d say it’s worth it.
Finally I just had to play along with the mtv unplugged video to get the rhythm down. What can I say im 44 and getting old 🤣Great lesson. Thank you. I just learned to play the solos from the unplugged version. I don't want to put my guitar down. I think my wife is getting tired of hearing Nutshell everyday though...you know a good lawyer? 🤣🤣
There’s some great vids out there on tutorials for this song but seems the main thing is the rhythm (me included obviously) but it’s such a great song. Thanks for this tutorial, the strumming direction is very useful too. Thanks !
thanks Shugs! It took me a while to internalize the counting of this song, actually this video is the result of me and my student Henry FINALLY decoding it after a couple tries, so I felt it prudent to focus on that :)
that's because it's freaking confusing! it took me two whole lessons with one of my students to get the counting down. I'm glad we did it, and that you found it Jim :)
Very good tutorial, you expertly explained the strumming pattern! But I believe the C chord is actually a C add9, with a hammer-on on the D string for 3 measures and a pull-off on the B string on the 4th measure.
@@RyanLendt yessir! Love your channel! Thanks to you, I was able to learn how to play Frogs-- very underrated song on their Tripod and Unplugged albums!
You frustrate me for 2 reasons.... Reason 1. You are clearly an incredibly cool dude, and probably one hell of a good teacher! But your RU-vid lessons are very much suited to people who are at an intermediate level of guitar play, and not absolute beginners like me... Reason 2. Your videos teach only the best songs ever. All my favourite bands are somewhere in your videos and that's cool as fuck mate! So I will keep watching your vids and trying to keep up when you go off on a rapid tangent "with the E minor 7, and the D with the G" etc...etc... Haha. And hopefully when I'm at a more advanced level I will use your videos as my bread and butter to teach myself only the coolest songs I love to hear and sing. Keep doing these mate. You're fucking class
well thank you for all that shimmy :) Indeed - I try to put something for everyone in each video, but don't worry if some of it goes over your head. Just do what you can, move on to a different song, go to sleep, wake up, repeat. Eventually you'll get all of it, and also very likely get much better than me because I'm just in the basement and you're out in the world :) Cheers friend, thank you for being here.
I'm intermediate. You beginners: PAY ATTENTION TO THIS TIMING STUFF. You don't need heavy theory to progress on your guitar journey,, but you DO need to learn timing. Memorizing the up and downs of a strumming pattern may seem like it gets you where you need to go, but this wrapping your head around the timing is SO crucial to advancing on the guitar. It's taken me, literally, 20 years of playing to understand how important it is for my progression. I have zero talent - so maybe it'll only take you 6 months... But the explanation given in this video is PURE GOLD. Take it to heart the best you can!
Christ Lucca seriously ? This song is the reason I started playing guitar 6 weeks ago. But it seems way to hard still! For now only A horse with no name and a sort of beginning of sort of Wonderwall... you must be a sick talent .. or I just suck big time! I’ll keep at it. So should you, cheers!
👍🏼 Nice, I have been playing this slightly different for awhile. Played it similar to the way you did and like it better. Thanks for the video. Solid performance, super clear and helpful. Carry on my dude. 🤘
Um wow...Ryan I'm really impressed. Your explanation of that weird rhythm is very Clear to me.....this song has always been awkward for me. THANKS SO MUCH.
Awesome, just trying to figure this song out and I am very new to guitar. (This will be my first actual song- before this only chords) you have been very helpful)
good luck Michelle! for chords, this is a good choice for a first song. for timing of said chords, not so regular, but I'm guessing you're very familiar with this song, so you shouldn't have a problem :)
Not going to read ALL the comments, but did anyone get your Monty Python reference at the start? The self defense sketch. Cheers for your lessons, they are quick paced, informative and entertaining. I use this one as my strumming reference every time I want to play it and get stuck.
7 million points to you Mel! I don't remember, but certainly not more than one or two people (if any) got the self defense reference! You've just reminded me that I need to watch more python. Cheers to you and thank you for the kindness Mel :)
@@RyanLendt I'd recommend John Cleese's autobiography entitled So, Anyway. I listened to the audiobook version read by himself. It's as silly as you'd expect! I love your channel, you've enlightened me on things I hadn't really understood or even thought of before, and gotten me more curious to learn theory. I'd always ignored slash chords, but as soon as I heard you describe them they made sense to me. And I realised I'd been playing a G with a B in the bass every time I play Goals by John Frusciante! Lately I've been practicing Snow (Heyell Noh!) Speaking of goals, one of mine is to play it to tempo by the end of the year. Sorry for the above novel!
Hey dude! Love the tutorials, I was wondering if you could do drown by front porch step, I can’t find any good tutorials out there and I love the way you teach
