For someone like myself whom has heard Soundgarden songs since 1990 ,you can mutter a song title from this band and the song starts playing like a jukebox in my head , I can tell you where I was standing on earth when I heard these songs for the first time ,all of them
I stole a thousand beggars change And gave it to The Rich.. saying One more time around... Damn I really miss Chris Cornell. Obviously I didn't know him. But music is a powerful connection. That's why I always watch your Vids. I been playing for a few years. But your teaching style I dig. Really Ryan. Thanks for the Music dude🎤🎙☇🤘
I got it the opposite way, I thought that the lyrics where depressing, but Chris himself said that the "one more time around" part was kind of motivating. Like saying "Screw it! I tried today to be outside my bubble, but I'll probably try again". And the music... The intro sounds like if you where waking from a lucid dream just when it was beginning to be a nightmare, the verse sounds a bit off. Now the chords before the "THE DAY, I TRIEEEEEDD!" are the ones who sound uplifted tho.
this is an amazing tutorial, thank you so much. wish I could've found this sooner. instead of making you play one ceratain way, you give us options that all sound amazing. thank you so much, keep it up
@@RyanLendt Lmao. Thanks for all your help boss. I started watching about 7 months ago. I went from kinda knowing a few songs to being able to play entire albums of my favorite bands. I dont know why but every other guitar lesson on yt was just difficult to watch. Youve got a winning formula boss. Thank you again
haha I remember that day clearly. I was out of brain juice and just couldn't bring myself to wade through how to really play it, although that was the intention :)
Ryan Lendt I realised that my nick name in English it’s not right... But here in Spain I’m known as the color black so I mixed it with basically and this came out. Thanks! I think I’m gonna stick with Neg in English. Have a nice day and healthy!
Thank you for adapting! Saves me from constantly breaking my strings (or possibly buying another inexpensive guitar and just keep it in EEBBBB since there are a few Soundgarden songs in this tuning. But then I'd have t buy another guitar for CGCGGE, and another for EbBbBbGbBbD (Mayonaise)...glad YT recommended your channel..sometimes the algorithm gets it right!
The reason why the notes are all slightly sharp is because they're speeding up the audio in post which is making the pitch higher. My guess is the instruments were in tune when recording was done.
haha yes this video is the result of me totally wussing out for that very reason. I understand the tuning now, and someday I'll post a real vid for this :)
Hey @ryanlendt, just a suggestion - it would help if you played a good chunk of the song at the beginning and again at the end of the video. All of your lessons are great but they're kinda broken up. It's tough to hear how a full verse sounds or a verse/chorus sound together. Appreciate the work!
Thanks for the tutorial because I’d have never thought that the tuning is basically specific to a quarter step. I was trying to pluck out the bass line by ear and it sounded off whether I tuned normally or a half step down. Could tell I was on the right track but listening to it and playing along just sounded… weird. I love Soundgarden, but the lengths they went to to get a unique sound can be incredibly annoying 😆
Ok, have you really gone now ? 😂 Another great tutorial. Learning it to play for my son because he came to me saying he heard it in a computer game, and he loves it... At last 😅. Finally might be cool to him again. Thank you orical.
I’ve been trying to learn this one for awhile. Chris’ benefit is still so surreal. T.Hawkins gave it his all during his performance 🎤 “ The Day I Tried to Sing’ It was awesome watching him point 👉🏽to MFC on the ‘ one more time arounds’ 🤘🏽
Ryan Lendt ‘Agreed. ‘Hunted Down’ by AIC’s William/Jerry definitely had an impact on me 🤘🏽 I wish they would’ve/could’ve played more 🤘🏽 IMO (I wish) Metallica would’ve/should’ve shortened their set. Maybe allowed more time for the ‘Supergroups’ or more videos of Chris. Overall, probably the longest arena show I’ve ever been too. Met so many cool people. 🤘🏽🚘🚗🎸🍻
I was just watching the "seasons-the day I tried to live" combo on the same tuning, and I was wondering if you would consider doing an additional tutorial on this song using the same tuning,(with capo) that you use with the seasons tutorial? I know that is probably a big request, considering you have already done it with standard tuning. But it sure would be awesome since my guitar is in seasons tuning anyway.
no no, this needs to be done :) I think I was just out of brain juice that day and absolutely could not make heads or tails of this song in the tuning it's supposed to be in, so I thought wouldn't it be neat if I could earball out a standard tuning version. I think it sounds great, but we definitely need to do the real way - thanks Scott!
Oh yes Jam master classics keep onnnn coming. Talking of classics and it is pearl jam related could you try with ufo/flight to mars Doctor Doctor ??? Half my kingdom awaits you if this can be done.
You rock! But, if you would ever consider doing a tutorial on this song in EEBbbe, that would be sooo Awesome, (since I have already changed some of strings out, for seasons) :)
Yes, that is currently the case. B But, I LOVE this crazy tuning, and we just picked my guitar at a pawn shop over the weekend. So, I am happy to just play mine until I have it totally mastered. :)
Hey Ryan can you maybe do Call Me A Dog. From temple of the dog? I'd like to see you do if. Like I Said I learn from your teaching style and personality. Thanks Ryan. Be Sound🎤🎼☇
Thanks. Could you please do Rusty Cage? I'm really trying to learn as many SG songs as possible and I can't seem to pick up on other people's teachings.. Thank you.
Hey Ryan! Good stuff here! The record tunning is EEBBBb, but how did Soundgarden tuned the 3rd and 1st string in order to not breaking them? I imagine they tuned up the 3rd string to B (that is two hole steps! How did that string not break??? Maybe using a very high string gauge? Like .12 or Something??) and the 1st string I assume they tuned it down to B right? Because its imposible ( I think) to tune it up to B and not breaking it. Please let me know. Cheers man
What's up and thanks Vicente! I'm guessing you'd just slap on the closest string for each note, so the third string would just be a B string... I think we all need to go guy another guitar so we can have a dedicated soundgarden one :P
Yeah I know... I wasn't in the mood to mentally process the real way to play it... and this way works pretty well for the amount of hassle it saves! genius is an understatement. Not of this world perhaps...
The demo/workshopped version sounds a lot like this. I think they wrote it in standard and adapted it to give more depth to the sound. More eclectic, full, and mysterious in the open tuning. Really suits the melody and timing.
So you pretty much stole what Ben is doing on the bass on made it power chords. The note pattern for the chorus is not EXACTLY like the verse. Instead of 9-8 like you do with the 12-11. You do the 99999-8-0-7-0-6-0-55555-4-3-0-22222
