I think Mike is one of the most original sounding guitarists around. I have a masters of music performance and I am still amazed by his choice of voicings. I love his playing. And believe it or not though he doesn't solo often he is one hell of a shredder.
His work with avicii on “wake me up” is simply my favourite. Simple chords but such a good sounding piece. I love musicians who use simple chords and make it sound amazing
its amazing. when i first started playing guitar I loved this guy. Then as time went on and I started moving away from his playing. Then, when i got better and wanted to find unique guitar players to learn off of, I came back to Mike. He's really truly amazing. Every part he writes is just incredible. My biggest influence right now
These guitar.com videos were great. There’s a whole bunch of them. I remember when these first started making their way around the Internet. The low quality of the video, graphically speaking, the indispensable amount of information, the coolness. Oh yeah. And dial up Internet. Ahh the good old days. I recommend watching Zakk Wylde’s video, too
This was the ultimate video that inspired me growing up. Was so cool to experience as a 16 year old. Mike has such a unique way of expressing all things music. Cool because he can wail, be weird, and write smooth emotional music all at once. Guys just got a highly creative mindset. Guy is one of the most underrated guitarist ever.
mike einziger has prolly been the biggest influence on me for my own music and he made appreciate diversity and understanding chords and using different voicings. love his chilled nature. you can totally tell he hates cameras and interviews. amazing guy and guitarist
I remember being like 12-13 and watching this on RealPlayer, like straight up Windows 95 status, trying to freaking figure out Stellar. Christ I'm getting old
What a time to be alive ya know. I did the exact same. The internet was such a new exciting world and this video takes me back to that time when i thought stellar was just the absolute coolest vibe I ever heard.
I'm thinking back to the first presentation I had to make in front of a huge comp class. Loose definition of "selling something" so guitar as a hobby was accepted. Lot of free resources online from finding instruments to instruction - I linked to this clip of Mike which was well-received so it holds a place in my heart.
the acoustic version chord sequence for the verse is sublime. so many chords and voicings that sound amazing together. pardon me acoustic version is one of those songs that when you strip the song down, you understand and appreciate the song more :)
for me he's one of the most creative guitarist. I like his sound. He finds very cool chords progessions. Between jazz and rock. as jrenner325 said, he should be studied
You don't have to shred to be a good guitar player. Technique, Versatility, and Creativity is what makes him good. I also agree with tkm2210 he does shred, Its also hard to continue doing when you have severe Carpal Tunnel.
FYI, this dude dropped outta high school to play music... I'd say it worked out well. He now has a degree in music from Harvard.. Eat it America lol.. .Great USA story
Anyone can shred like anyone can drive fast on a straight road! Mike is a superb musician and his talent with a guitar, to me, makes him one of the most under rated modern guitar genius'!
For me he is one of those few guitarists who a like the re-incarnation of "skill"... such a talented, skillful guitarist who really knows how to make unique, great music... to name others like this: the guitarist of blind melon (OMG !!! GOTTA KNOW THEIR STUFF !!!) Omar Rodriguez Lopez (adti, tmv) Jerry Cantrell (aic) Stefan Koglek (colour haze)
im a classic rock junkie, but incubus gets tons of airtime outta my ipod. this dude gets sounds outta his guitar that are just incredible. great guitarist, and fn awesome band.
He's got to be the coolest nerd ever. It's pretty sweet that he's going from this to Harvard Music school. I'm excited to hear what Incubus will come up with once the boys come back together.
One of the greatest bands in recorded history. Especially for their ability to evolve. Going from Funk metal (Fungus Amongus) to Melodic blues (If not now, when?) Fucking. Musical. GODS!!
lets just say that incubus DOES NOT hold him back. He writes incredible parts. I wold say he definately gets the respect he deserves. Incubus is one of the best selling rock bands around.
Incubus... Make Yourself is my favourite Album of all. I play in a Coverband and we took "love hurts" into out Repertoire... we love Incubus... the Drummer and I grew up with this stuff! The Bassman, the Drummer and I are in our 40s now.. and we love the 90s stuff :)
@@metalsadman Agreed! Recently we took Stone Sour's "through glass" into our repertoire. Same goes for Candlebox's "far behind" and Bify Clyro's "many of horror"
This guy has so much talent its unreal, unnatural! Hope hes getting the respect he deserves in Incubus and hes well know to all guitar players, being a bass playei dont really hear his name crop up or see him in guitar mags
mike einziger is one of my favorite guitarists, really cool player. i wish newer incubus was heavier though i must admit, science until a crow left of the murder were all brilliant incubus albums!
i agree with the guy who said he's the einstine, he's come up with some of the best ideas for sounds songs solos riffs, and he's not big headed about it
Wow... Sorry to comment again.. but damn.. I've studied Hendrix and Frusciante, and Einziger is truly the master of what they were trying to accomplish... Beautiful music plus random technicallity that makes no sense, yet perfect sense to the listener.... He must be the Rebirth of Hendrix.. That's it man.
