Fucking genius how the hell do you come up with this. He has such a distinctive sound, he deserves so much more fame than he has. One of the all time greats.
William Vickery ...I agree...there's a reason this guy hs achieved the sucess he has....Lots of people can play the guitar...only a few can create like Eizenger
I read that on Widipedia, too, but when I followed the citation that it gave, there was no mention of Steve Vai helping him come up with the Echo riff. It only mentioned that Mike used Steve Vai's pipa to write Aqueous Transmission. I think whoever started that idea was giving misinformation because I can't find any direct sources from either Mike Einziger or Steve Vai that confirm that.
@@jimlovesgina he doesnt get as much recognition in the big talk, like tom morello, who im a fan of but i think is a bit overrated. Mike riffs were beauriful and really odd
His riffs forever make me feel like I wanna swim in the middle of the ocean. This one, The one on Wish You Were Here, and The one on Dig. They move me from the inside
God that riff is so relaxing to listen to ❤️ gotta say, I miss this era of their sound. Songs like Aqueous Transmission and Echo always put me in the best headspace.
His riffs are so ethereal, unique, they sound so much fuller than just one single guitar. And they paint emotion without even adding the vocals, drums etc. Incredibly underrated
I wouldn't say Mike is an underrated guitarist. I don't intend to come of as demeaning in that statement either. I think anyone who knows Incubus knows pretty darned well that he's certainly among the most original guitarists out there. Perhaps it's more that he and/or other members of the band Incubus don't seek the same spotlight as more "rated" guitarists/bands do. Some individuals may gain satisfaction by having that spotlight... others just do what they do and do it well. That's Mike.
They sell out stadiums. It's not that they're not attention seekers, it's just the record industry doesn't emphasize rock music like it used to. That all began to end about 15-20 years ago. They were there for the end of it though. You couldn't turn on MTV at a certain point without hearing "Drive" by Incubus, that was around the time the album this song came out as well. They were GREAT, they still are, just this idea that they're not in it to win fame or fortune or anything, come on, that's just false. They're doing what they can, and you can tell from this video alone they were getting ready to rock an arena or even a stadium, hard to tell. They do sell out stadiums/arenas though. To this day. That's the hallmark of a successful band if I've ever heard of one.
@@voteZDLR Just because Incubus had radio and MTV success doesn’t mean that Mike was appreciated as much as he should have been as a guitarist. Those are two different things dude. Commercial success and guitar accolades aren’t interchangeable.
Yep. I remember exactly where I was. On holiday at a beach in North new Zealand. Someone played Stellar and Pardon Me. Sun was out. Water was good. Life was easy.
@@joshiejames I was 14, entering the living room of a strangers house party, about 10 people all sat down smoking, not talking, just listening to the music. I asked who was playing, they told me Incubus. I had heard Pardon Me a week before from my big sister. I couldn't believe what i was hearing.
I think Mike is an amazing talented musician. He's come up with so many interesting and beautiful riffs and melodies. Also, Mike comes across like a really humble man, so kudos to him for creating art and keeping it real. Thank you so much for posting these kind of videos!
Mike really is outta this world with his talent. He’s up there with Tom Morello and Thurston Moore, guitarists who absolutely make their guitars bend to their will to make a really unique sound. I love his playing style and everything he can/has achieved with Incubus. Fuck yeah, man.
So in the studio recording, I though what was actually playing was a Chinese guzhang (plucked instrument), but Mike replicating this sound on his guitar just makes it that much cooler.
As much as I listen to metal and progressive music and get blown away by guitarists like Tosin Abasi and others, I respect guitarists like Mike possibly even more for their genius songwriting and signature styles. Always one of my guitar heroes and a great player who really knows how to use effects well, and has great live tone.
@@___717. Interesting you say that as Mike still knows a lot about theory and has insane chops as well, he just doesn’t abuse it. Incubus Live at Red Rocks has some absolutely insane guitar playing. He has a background in jazz guitar.😎
@@KickflipGnasty of course. I'm not saying I think skill and soul are mutually exclusive. On the contrary, I actually think both skill and soul inform each other to help expand a musician's potential. Some people just don't know what "playing with soul" actually means. They think it means imitating faces and pretending the music is having more impact than it really is. On the other hand, players who mistake technical prowess for talent are a dime a dozen.
Love videos like this band gives back to fans about something they care about. Getting back into guitar and love playing older incubus, this song while tough at times the main riff and other parts is a lot of fun and not super challenging. Definitely worth learning.
I listen to all kinds of music, love all the great guitarists, Hendrix, SRV, Gallagher etc... but something about this dudes guitar style that just resonates with me. Yeah he's not the most technical of players but the whole point of music is to create sounds that are pleasing on the ears and his sounds are most definitely pleasing on the ears, Incubus is a vibe man, takes me back to the good old days, I miss the 90's/early 2000's!!
34 here learned this maybe ten years ago after seeing him live and getting those official tab books. I haven’t played in years and I pick up my grandpas (moms side)acoustic light gauge nylon string guitar . Started ripping it like I never had stopped and my mom came downstairs and said thank you afterwards. I never had the kind of moment before . I’m glad mike wrote this because it really is beautiful
