NOS at the Custom Shop means it's not aged. You have the options of NOS/Closet Classic/Relic. Unfortunatly theres no old parts on or in it.

Hate to say it but the bass vi is a really different beast man, firstly its a 6 string, with proprietary fender stings since its like a medium-short scale, and wonky electronics. Id suggest a normal bass first.

I haven't read through all the comments so forgive me if I'm offering repetitive info...Don't forget that Jack Bruce played a Bass VI in the early days of Cream before switching to the Gibson EB-3. There might even be photos of that instrument after it was painted by The Fool as was Clapton's SG. Yeah, I'm an old dude for sure. Ya gotta love and cherish this stuff, don't ya?

I have a twenty-te_e_en Fender Custom Shop copy of a1963 with 4 switches in sunburst. The originals were exceptionally hard to find then and they had been rode hard put away wet not to mention 7 to 8000 price tags. Some didnt have any finish left at all. I just looked on reverb, since the stimulus check hasn't come yet there are several for sale. It seems like all those clean originals are coming out of the closet. Lemmo is right, these are a real pleasure to play, lots of different tones, small neck, and sound great. Easy for a guitarist to pick up and play. Great demo Lemmo. Keep 'em commin.

Had a sunburst Bass VI with a dot fingerboard and tan case. Sold it to Peter Frampton and it went down on a plane over the ocean.

Did you say that "New Old Stock" means it has a mix of new and old parts on it? I always thought "New Old Stock" meant that the guitar is an older model that sat somewhere for a long period and was never sold and still new. So, it's a guitar made in 2016 with 2016 parts, but sat for 4 years before it sold. OR, is it a guitar that was made in 2016 that has some parts from 2015 and back on it mixed in with the 2016 parts? interesting

I don't think any of that is correct. I believe New Old Stock purely relates to the level of 'ageing'. NOS means it is not aged, as if it was made in the 50s/ 60s but never sold so in mint condition. Closet Classic was as if it was made in the 50s/60s but barely played by someone and looked after, but is aged to have a few minor nicks, wear and perhaps finish checking. Relic is where its made to look as if it was made in the 50s / 60s and has been played heavily over the years so has lots of wear, scratches, heavily tarnished parts etc.

Actually what Steve suggest is true. NOS it what is says.. NEW - (but) Old Stock. It could be new unsold guitars even from the year before. But oooowwkaay (hi Jen’) we know in this business the term “NOS parts” is also what it says. So many roads to Rome we said.

@@asw7696 I've just seen things for sale before as NOS after someone discovers a case of sealed product that sat in a warehouse for a long period of time. For example, an unopened case of blank VHS tapes or floppy disks. A 2016 guitar made from parts that were made across different years doesn't sound like NOS to me. It sounds more like a parts guitar, especially if the parts are not the same design as a a true 2016 guitar that uses all 2016 parts. I had just never heard anyone describe NOS that way.

@ Steve Carmichael. I agree, NOS = "aged inventory" = new, never sold, perhaps demoed in store, but nothing more. If any one wants to argue I recommend that they also contact Sweetwater to put them straight as I just found this on their web site: _"The term refers to instruments or parts that were built at some time in the past, but which are in brand-new condition, and were never sold. In the 1960s, it wasn’t uncommon for a family-owned music store to have guitars and basses in stock that had been sitting in inventory for several years before they were finally sold."_

I’m thinking what he means is if they find a pallet of 70 necks in the warehouse that was forgotten about they use those first. Or maybe a case of tuners. So for instance made in 1979 but but still new.

I normally play 4 string Fretless Bass, but I want to get into playing rhythm and having one of these allows me to dabble back into a Bass register while also learning regular guitar chords, the Squier Bass VI is in my budget, but I want that awesome mute, the Squier is fantastic, but the Fender is my OG dream Bass VI, I also adore the Schecter Hellcat VI, with the fixed bridge and no bass cut switch like the original 62 Bass VIs and the Ibanez SRC6, with the Walnut body, amazing range and the low action, they all have features I want in a Bass VI.

Great playing, as usual! Might be the best Bass VI demo I’ve seen, but you didn’t show us the bridge pickup tone! BTW, “NOS” means “New Old Stock”, but in the context of a new Custom Shop instrument, it just means that there’s no relic’ing done on it, not that it has any actual old parts. I’m really thinking now that I want the Squier Bass VI, as I can’t afford a Custom Shop one-and I’m primarily a guitar player anyway, but I can double on bass-that thing would be perfect.

wow , what a cool bass , never seen anything like that before , the sound is so very slick , deep and thumpy but with rythym guitar jangle , looks like a guitar , plays like a guitar , but definitely bass , very unique , some very cool jams also , Lemmo is the man , thanks guys.

II can dig it. It's an offset which I love plus both Jack Bruce and Peter Green played one. Jack, main bass until "The Fool" not only psychedelocised the body but lacquered the finger board, which I guess he didn't like. Just used for TV appearances with Cream. EB-3 the stage axe ( I know,,,,,,,,,y'all knew this). Peter Green was a pro on bass before guitar. Had a Bass VI. Almost wished Mike dropped into the doublestopped 'break' for "Rattle Snake Shake" then the little bass solo played by Peter. Then Play On :)

What’s the difference between a Bass 6 and a Baritone guitar?

The tuning - Baritones are usually tuned B to B (a fifth below standard guitar tuning) but a Bass VI is tuned an E to E (an octave below standard guitar tuning), like a bass, but with two extra strings, like a regular guitar.

I've never heard that Fender actually uses old parts to build their NOS guitars. I think New Old Stock is just a marketing thing for selling non-reliced guitars.

watched ALL your bass VI vids and this so far sums it up for me. huge fan of your playing style. obviously you are a guitar pro finding this niche product to go other ways. me i´m bass related but in the end this is what connects both worlds and i love the fluent transition as each party feels kinda home but at the same time has to conquer new ways of playing. great demo! What kinda drum machine it that? right now I use a mpc live which is kinda overkill.

.... Does Lemmo think that NOS means they actually use vintage parts at the custom shop? I really miss how well informed Mark was. I like Lemmo but he doesn't seem to understand specs as well or doesn't know how to explain them to people.
