@13:43 to explain why we all feel what we always feel when hear, especially the lead work, here's mincho-zilla's quote as to why she does what she does: "In my mind, a good guitar solo will trigger emotions, and you will not forget it once you hear it. I always keep that in mind when I create the solos.”
Gosh i was watching this & you popped up in my feed on another channel. Now i find you're here too. Gets a like for "Power ballad at it's finest". I couldn't say it better :)
Akane is the bricks in this song, she is building sound that amplifies what the rest are doing and is keeping the listeners interest. I am glad you were so emphatic about how great the drums are in this song, I have always thought the same, but, not many reactors pick up how cool of a job she really does. Akane can play fast, and I love when she does, but for me, I have always loved her creativity in her patterns that always seem to be inevitably "in the service of the song" more. Some of the songs with her drumming that I really love are Alone, Choose me, Puzzle, Secret my lips, You, Spirit, Dice, Manners and so many more. Where as songs like Warning, Black Hole, Screaming, Shake That, Different, Rinne are just as impressive from a technical stand point and great in their own right, probably stand out more for speed. It just goes to show that she can do just about anything on the kit. She is always spot on about what a song needs and where it needs. Understanding of course that Band-Maid is a collaborative effort, Akane is absolutely working off and to what the other members are doing. You can hear her emphasizing, echoing, setting up and grooving along with different members at different times. They have to be working that out together for it to work. That they can get it right time after time is one of the major things that set them a part from most other bands. Anyway, I ramble. The point I wanted to make is that Akane is by far my favorite drummer and it was great to see you give her the Props that she richly deserves on this song and in general! Thanks for your reactions, good stuff!
Thank you for watching Mark! Drums are not always appreciated as much as they should, especially in slow songs. But they truly are the foundation and they can dramatically change the vibe of a song. Her creativity is phenomenal!
Akane Hirose is for me one of the creativest drummers over the world today. And probably this is more noticeable in the mid tempo songs than in the fast pace. With MISA, they from the most consistent rythm section in active (with several bodies of advantage over the next). But the soul belongs to Kanami. Each and every note that comes out of her guitar points directly to your heart, and man, then there is no place to take cover. With this song, that famous line makes sense ... "While HER guitar gently weeps..." The live performance of Puzzle in Shinkiba Studio Coast in 2017 is a masterpiece, all the girls giving their best 120%. The acoustic version of Zepp Tokio in 2018 is like discovering a new whole horizon to the band. You have to watch both even if you do not make a video. I understand perfecly your doubts about non original material. Whatever thing you do we will be here to watch you.
Akane is one of the best drummers in hard rock of this day and age. She does not need a huge drum kit to get a great variety of feels and beats, she is a world class drummer for sure.
That MISA, you really have to watch those quiet ones. They are really bad influences! (I've been accused of this myself on more than one occasion though, so glass house and all that rot.) Random thought - maybe a signature banana flavored Jim Beam whiskey for Akane!
@@Kevin6059 I actually did blend some banana flavoured whiskey but added the wrong amount of essence & it tasted too synthetic. I still drunk it but my stomach told me for days afterwards to never do it again. Lol
@@Kevin6059 Lol. Yep you've told me that before. I don't like bananas either so i don't know what i was thinking. My root ginger spiced dark rum was delicious tho :)
This song brings tears to my eyes every time. Have a look at the lyrics and you will understand the emotions in the music is reflected in the lyrics. This is the best rock ballad ever written IMHO.
Thanx for your, as usual, great reaction! I'm a 67yr old rock fan and i have to say that Akane and MISA are one of the premier rhythm sections of rock history. They compare with Bruce and Baker, Mitchell and Redding, Moon and Entwhistle, Bonham and Jones, etc. They are both consummate proponents of their craft and they are a brutal powerhouse when necessary. MISA's use of chords and slap combine perfectly with Akanes flawless timekeeping and creative rhythm patterns to create awesome synergy. Cheers!
Kanami's guitar strumming on this song reminds me of The Edge from U2. Maybe just me but that's the vibe I get every time I listen to this song. I would love to see your analysis and commentary on the live versions of "Puzzle" (regular version and acoustic) as I enjoy your commentary and insights as always. Thanks GuitarGent
The thing I love most about this song is how long they hold the tension in that chorus. You think it's going to resolve at the end of the first 4 bars but no... they tease it but go right back into the loop for another 4 bars and THEN resolve. It's delicate and beautiful and difficult to do well.
Mincho ❤️ has commented that this is one of the most challenging arrangements she's done, and that she loves playing it. ❤️ This is my favorite B-M ballad. Period.
@@akaalexanderking She also does most of the other preliminary instrumental arrangements and then passes to MISA and A-chan to do their composition magic on it. All the while being Miku's guitar sensei! ❤️ And... can't forget Miku's lyrics-writing, and then Sai-chan's blessing on the lyrics. ❤️
According to Kanami in an interview this was the hardest song she ever had to compose/arrange but also her favorite! I say maybe react to the studio song on Spotify, even if there is no video, the song is amazing and totally worth reacting to. Thank you! and stay safe.
I'm here for your analysis and explaination. I familiar with the tracks so for me personally it's your analysis that is the main part. I love the drumming in this track. It has great feeling, and Kanamis solos are great because they fit in to just what each track needs.
I think this is something that can be said about many of the Japanese bands as a whole... There is a sense that every element, every part, every phrase, needs to serve the whole. It's the attention to the details serving and building the collective whole that seems to be a hallmark of bands like Band Maid, Doll$boxx, tricot, and many others.
Puzzle sure is a great song, but it might also be a great idea to check out Rinne next for a contrast between a Band-Maid power ballad and Band-Maid going full metal.
This song was early in their catalogue and Miku was still just learning to play, so that's why there isn't a lot of her in the mix. Personally, while I often joke "one of my 90+ favorite Band-Maid songs", this really is one of their masterpieces. I completely agree with your observations on Akane--she is a genius, and this is where you really see it.
Looking forward to this one. Doesn't get reacted to near enough. Personally this is my favorite Kanami solo. Powerful but melodic and moving. Like all her solos always leaves me wanting more.:)
Concerning Puzzle I vote for a studio recording react and commentary and analysis on the lives. Kanami is more audible on the lives. Daydreaming is my 2d favorite rock ballad of all time behind Maybe I'm Amazed. The solo from Maybe I'm Amazed is 30 seconds and Daydreaming is 15 seconds. Really wish Daydreaming was 30 seconds but emotionally I might not be able to handle it. One female reactor was near tears after hearing the solo. I need to go back and pay attention to the drums. Really need to get a better understanding of how they enhance the song. Maybe for your guitar channel you can come up with extended versions of Kanami's solos?.:)
I think we had the same face when that solo kicked in. Incredible!! I am running out of words for this band. You are way better at describing and reviewing them. React to official vids, would hate for you to get strikes. Love your channel.
Also, if you like the drumming here, I wholeheartedly recommend checking out Wonderland and Spirit!! There's a live version of the former on their channel and you can find the other one on Spotify. Akane's choices on both of those songs are just... *chef's kiss*
'Gorgeous' is exactly the same word I used when I heard this the first time. And the Akane performances like this are what draws my attention over several other very talented drummers. It doesn't hurt that their sound engineers and technicians must be magicians of the highest order to enable you to feel every beat in every performance. They have changed the way that I listen to drums forever.
I have listened to all manner of groups for 60 years and like all kinds of music but my first love is opera .A year ago I discovered Band Maid right after Wagikki band. I was transfixed by their very high level of musicianship and this has only improved. Kanami is the power house but the others are so highly skilled and creative they together keep on improving. They are true musicians of the highest order and probably the best band in the world of any kind.
Great reaction. I've seen the live version of Daydreaming in their concert at Studio Coast 2017 and the drumming Akane performed was some of the best live drumming I've ever seen. It's not like the break neck pace of After Life or Different but the subtle touches and fills she puts together are incredible. The whole band, every member is on top level for the song.
Love Kanami. Her solo here, has me in tears, love her composing and guitar work. This, About us, Lovebites Swan song, Epilogue and Nemophilas Life get me in tears, emotional.
Thank you. Great reaction! I agree this song has some of my favorite Akane drumming. Actually Puzzle was never up on Band-Maid channel. It was uploaded unofficially by someone but not by the band.
Since you're mentioned about spotify, maybe you can check "Black Hole" or "H-G-K" 😁😁😁 Well, probably all song from unseen world album 🤣🤣🤣 Thank you, thank you so much for the great reaction GG!!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 #MaidMondays #WeAreWithBM #bandmaid #takeovertheworld
A common thread being Band - Maid songs end to soon and also leave you wanting more. Personally i get a sense that Band-Maid writes their songs to involve all members equally, no one member has a solo that dominates a song...even the tone of each instrument is apparent and easily heard, and never getting lost. a band who respects each other and enjoys what they are doing and it shows. another great review :)
Nicely in-depth and informative, it's appreciated. Solo equals emotion and Kanami is so good at it as this is a really emotional song. Puzzle acoustic for emotionally rendered vocals or Rinne for some blunt trauma shredding and drumming. Thanks, keep it up!
you can make a review video with some cuts of part where you like with some comments you had in mind, and since Band Maid did say they were watching most of reactors videos, I am sure they want some feed backs out of it,
Quick note about the puzzle links. They are likely the performances from their official live DVD’s (studio coast for the normal version, and zepp for the acoustic). None of the studio coast performances were ever officially released on RU-vid, and only a couple of the ones from the Zepp show have been (Onset, Real Existence, maybe one more?). The DVDs for these shows are out of print and not for sale anymore. They only exist in the aftermarket. The band isn’t making any more money on them from sales. Let that guide your conscience. There are a number of performances that are great which are only found on those DVD’s. Puzzle (both versions), Anemome (acoustic), Don’t You Tell Me, Take Me Higher, Moratorium (both versions), Play (MISA bass solo version), Turn Me On, etc.
@@akaalexanderking no problem, glad to help out. Whatever you decide is cool. If you decide not to react to them, give yourself a gift and at least watch them on your own. Puzzle is widely considered one of their best live performances (regular or acoustic), and the solo battle in Don’t You Tell Me is awesome and really takes it to another level beyond the studio version (which is available on the official channel). And Turn Me On, and Take Me Higher don’t even have music videos available anywhere else. Plus, it’s widely accepted that the live sound mixing is better in the Studio Coast and Zepp shows than the Line Cube shows (specifically Kanami’s lead guitar sounds muted compared to the earlier concerts; you can really tell in the difference of how Play sounds. Kanami has some lead work and counter-rhythms that are almost buried in the Line Cube mix, which is a small shame). Anyway, I’m enjoying your reactions and musician’s insight. Keep up the great work!
Excellent GG - it's very interesting that you could pick out the perfection of the drumming in this beautiful "soft" song. With Akane's nickname of the Gorilla, it is really amazing that she is able to play so creatively and with delicate taste in this song. Most reactors would probably have missed this important element of the overall musical impression.
Thanks JS. Of course these are all first time listen reactions, so I couldn't possibly get everything. But I'm glad that what stands out to me is interesting enough for all of you :)
I saw the reaction this time as well. I'm really looking forward to your reaction! That's right! In a sense, the growth of Miku is also an evolution of BAND-MAID, which is a further chemical reaction.
And there we have it, my personal favourite before 'About Us', if you can even say that with so many good songs. I totally agree with you about the differences between the two songs. 'About Us' hits you mainly with Saiki and Miku's voice, while 'Daydreaming' touches you mostly with the instrumentation. For me, Akane and Kanami are the two who really carry the song. The way Akane knows how to use her, compared to others, relatively small drum kit sensitively but at the same time powerfully, I find simply phenomenal. And Kanami's guitar takes the place of the backup voice for me. Not only during the solo should one notice that she knows exactly how to make her guitar sing. Right from the first seconds of the song, she perfectly accompanies Saiki's voice. In most B-M songs, Akane complements Misa's bass with her drums, while Kanami more or less does her own thing. But here I would say the dream duo is Akane and Kanami, without wanting to belittle the others. As you can tell, I have a hard time describing in words what I particularly like about this song. It was one of the first songs I heard from the ladies, and it is still the song that speaks to me most clearly, even though I don't speak Japanese. I just love it and admire the ladies for their gift and talent to write and perform such songs. :) 【 'Our rock never dies ever, forever!' - Band-Maid 】
GG, I think a lot of us value your musician's perspective, whether part of a fun first reaction or not. That is usually what keeps me coming back. Many Band Maid songs have such depth that even long time fans have to listen a few times to catch new elements, so you won't lose much of that fresh reaction feel even if you have heard the song a few times. Do what is best for your channel - I'll still be tuning in.
There are two live versions of "Daydreaming". Live in 2017 and 2018. In either case, Kanami's pre-recorded piano solo is played in the intro. The official uploads from these two live editions are only 3 songs "ONSET", "Real Existance" and "Cross" from the 2018 edition, and none from the 2017 edition. Looking at the MV caption officially uploaded to RU-vid, Until "The Dragon Cries" released in February 2020, the copyright of the MV is owned by the company (Nippon Crown) to which BAND-MAID belonged before the transfer. So, I think there is almost no possibility that the same video work, the 2017/2018 live BLU-RAY (DVD), will be resold by Nippon Crown. And Currently, these two live albums are no longer available for sale, so we can't buy them at the right price. So, watching this upload is a copyright violation, but not a lost profit for the company. Due to such circumstances, watching these has few moral problems, and has the effect of appealing to the copyright owner for lost opportunities and motivating them to resell. ... maybe. It's really like MISA and Akane are one person (MISAkane???). Not only are they friends from a long time back, but they've always just clicked musically as well. And with MISA's absolute abandon for playing whatever the hell she wants (instead of what people might *think is "appropriate" for bass), they are two powerhouses that drive all these tunes SO incredibly hard. They have the exact same mindset, but with different instruments. And Akane is just like the most tasteful, powerful, skilled drummer under the sun, but with so much fun and contemporary groove sense.
Another great reaction. Again a beautiful song by Bandmaid. Love youre technical explanations. One of my 2 favorite bands, together with lovebites. Thank you for this one.
Puzzle.... How's this for an idea. React to a streamed Audio only version, but in the same reaction video, share your thoughts on the full band live and acoustic live. Or a highlight package. Puzzle is a song that we want to see your reaction to coz it is a great song... in all 3 versions. Before hearing Puzzle I thought Band Maid were cool. I had a few songs on my Spotify list.... But Puzzle hooked me in like a big fat salmon. Funny enough when I go fishing, I actually catch fish whilst I have Puzzle play. Even the fish love it. Vocals.... We all know that "vocal layering" is an OLD technique for producing a richer, fuller vocal track, however, it is often Miku that provides it for Band-Maid. She does it here, she does it for Choose Me (actually - that is the perfect example of Miku's deep vocal range.). LOL- it's funny, Miku brought in Saiki coz Miku thought that her voice wasn't "Rock" enough, yet not only does she provide unison and harmonizing vocals, she also does the lower vocals. (Saiki fans - I'm a Saiki fan... Don't S#&t on me. Band-Maid ain't Band-Maid without Saiki (And the other 4 pillars)) Had to get that in. What would be cool, which I have not seen a reacter, or a musician reacter do is - Have your initial reaction, then after 2nd listen thought, an afterthought, ..... actually, there is a Swedish gut that does it. He's pretty cool coz he gives a more balanced review...... and when it comes to your channel, because of your musical background, you are more a reaction/reveiw rather than just a reaction channel.
@@akaalexanderking yes please react to Puzzle audio only from their second online stream! If not the listen to it by yourself is a must. The online concerts are on bilibili web page
@@GaryHolloway-810 C'mon man... I'm the sporting type, however if they jump out of the water from their own free will, who am I to deny them what they want....??? That would just make me a bad person, wouldn't it??
@@stealthcabbie1336 You know what, you're right S.C. If the fish jump out by their own volition then that's cool by me. As the saying goes, "A happy fish is a tasty fish".
Akane almost sounds like she's feeling the song. Guitar weeps and cries, drum pounds like your heart does when you're in love, bass tries to hold back... they all sing in this piece that amplifies the emotions in this song. Miku... improved A LOT since then.
BAND-MAID This is what happens when all the right pieces fall into place. Miku (PO) comes up with the idea of a hard rock band in maid outfits after working in a maid cafe and looks for a lead guitarist and finds Kanami on RU-vid, and then ask her to join the band and it doesn’t have any other members. Kanami joins and knows a drummer that she has worked with in the past on session work Akane and she ask her to join the band. Akane joins and knows a bassist that she was in a band with her and they went to the same music school, MISA and ask her to join the band. MISA joins and the three girls and one small pigeon start their journey but Miku doesn’t think her voice is what the band needs. Therefore, the band holds open auditions and they find Saiki and she is asked to join the band but they don’t tell her they will be dressing as maids. At this point Miku steps down from vocals and picks up the guitar to play rhythm in the band, she starts with an E bar cord and look at her now 7 years later. If you remove any one of these woman from the band it will not work. They work as a team, Akane helps with the staging, Kanami writes the music, Miku writes the lyrics, MISA and Saiki give their input to help with the impact of the songs. This is a true band they don’t fight they work together for the welfare of the band, no glory hogging everyone get their chance to shin.
Puzzle (live) is one of my top 5 Band-Maid songs, and one I think you'll particularly like as a guitarist (Kanami really shines in this one as both an instrumentalist and songwriter). But I find the live version so dynamically superior to the studio version, that I can barely get myself to listen to the latter anymore (the studio version doesn't crack my top 30 list). The highlight of the song - at least to me - is Kanami's relentless guitar work. And it is flat in the studio version mix. Honestly, I'd ignore the studio version completely and react to just the live version for this song (unlike Rinne or Yolo, where the studio version is the superior mix). Other reactors don't seem to have trouble posting reactions to the Studio Coast (2017) live of Puzzle, esp when they are actual musicians giving professional analysis, as you are. This version of Puzzle has been posted on the Bilibili for the longest time: BAND-MAID - Puzzle Live_哔哩哔哩 (゜-゜)つロ 干杯~-bilibili. I don't think you'll have a prob reacting to it esp if you - as you usually do - stop it now and then to give your musician's critical commentary.
Guitar Gent: Please check out the Band-Maid Rinnie song. It's probably their heaviest and arguably their best song to date in my opinion. Components of the song kind of reminds me believe or not of Pantera.
That second voice was the backup singer Miku Kobato in the chorus.....both singers voices are really wonderful together.....and they can really harmonize their voices to an amazing level....Miku can usually sing an octive lower or even higher with Saiki.....in fact Miku is always singing in all the songs except for the instrumentals.....in fact in one song she had to step up and replace Saiki on stage as Saki was "kidnapped" by some fans (she had been singing in the Women section of the crowd and lost her shoes .......she got them back in the next song....but she was off the stage and lost her microphone...Miku stepped up and finished the song in style!....Saiki got back on stage in time for the next song but was barefooted at the time.....
@@akaalexanderking When you get around to the older songs you'll find that Miku used to sing much more. "Time" and "Rock in Me" are Miku solos. "Freezer" and "Arcadia Girl" they trade off back and forth, and are both very good songs. I don't know of any official videos but there are fancams of Time and Rock in Me and some fan made "videos' for Freezer and Arcadia Girl (basically an image and the studio recording).
"YOLO" ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wKZbzcUdY1g.html, "Daydreaming" ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RCaeUkrItyY.html, "Puzzle" www.bilibili.com/video/av64175474 and a number of others, are world-class masterpieces. Too bad no one (relatively speaking) knows about them. Band-Maid numbers should be in the tens of millions, if not higher. It's a complete mystery to me how people have moved away from mind, gut, and soul gripping rock... to cheezy, glitz & glam pop entertainers, industrial boy groups, and "I'm too cool for you" commercial hip-hop / rap crap. Maybe groups like Band-Maid, The Warning, Jinjer and others will once again ignite people's musical sensibilities back to where it should be - honest, rock-based, kick-ass music written from the heart that moves you.
When it comes to the length of Kanami's solos, there is an old saying in music, or show business in general that goes "Always leave them wanting more". She seems to live by that advice! :-) I love a good 20 minute guitar solo as much as the next guy but she plays for the song and not as a display of wankery for the sake of wankery. She always leaves us wanting more.
Oh, and I'd always suggest official recordings for your channel. On your own time, of course listen to whatever you want, but for your public face, I'd think avoiding strikes is the way to go. Good luck!
DAYDREAMING emotional song..great reaction as always.if you find it on youtube look daydreaming live KANAMI composed piano intro! I'm waiting for your premiere BABYMETAL-MEGITSUNE..hope you used live version at budokan...
I've been a fan since early 2015 when Thrill just started to get traction. I've watched them grow as musicians, entertainers and even as people. I've seen them live five times now and the never fail to blow me away. I say all that because across their entire catalog, this song is still my favorite. There are no weak spots and it just blends flawlessly each member's contribution. This is as close to perfection as they have come.
I would love to hear you talk about/break down the song Different from Band-Maid. its a song written for a anima intro. its not on my list of my favorite Band-Maid songs but it is easily the most technical guitar work then any other song
Really enjoy your reactions,as you say play safe, and stick to official vids, can i recomend,,alone, and ,choose me,,both bangers thankyou for the reactions.
There is another reactor named Robk Reacts that does a Link and Sync and / or Reactor Hub version that I think might help you with copyright stuff for the non official songs. I like the RH option. You may want to check that out and see if it works for you.
@@akaalexanderking I've tried posting a link here twice but it doesn't take. Maybe because it's a different site? Try googling reactorhub/reactorhub: Project for RU-vid reactors ... - GitHub This seems to explain how to do Reactor Hub reactions.
When the band first comes in and the guitar solo are just fantastic. This is a top 3 Band-Maid song for me, and I tend to like the heavier stuff more. I agree not to use the live Puzzle videos. I'd like to see you react to the studio version of Puzzle, and then watch the live versions on your own and add your reactions to those to the end of the reaction video. The live full-band Puzzle is my favorite Band-Maid song. Puzzle is a perfect rock song, and Daydreaming is a perfect rock ballad.
I can't decide if I like Puzzle Live or Moratorium Live more. What I like about the Lives is one can hear Kanami's guitar more clearly. Gets buried a bit in the mix IMO in the studio
@@_DriveTime I know the Play and Domination Live are an epic back to back from the Shibuya concert and I love it but I still think the Moratorium/Puzzle back to back from Studio Coast tops it.

Honestly I would wait for Puzzle, maybe those videos will be put back up. Onset (live) is good and still on their channel. (It's an instrumental, no Saiki.) I'd just do stuff from their channel for now, really all their stuff is good.
I am OK with just reviews of songs outside official channels. At this moment there are several channels with reaction to acoustic versions (dvd material) and even one guy reacting to bonus videos from DVD, but you never know when they decide to took videos down. (probably some mistakes in my english)
I'm a Band Maid fan and new to your channel. I must admit this song didn't really do it for me at first. Your analysis and reaction helped me "hear it again for the first time". It's almost as if BM released a new song that I really like! BTW I am also a Dream Theater fan. Their skill level is in a different world (even if they always bury Myung in the mix), but I'd rather listen to BM!
hi i would like to see your reaction and doing it via spotify is ok i much more respect that the fact that you say if they took it down you wont show it thats legit oh and if you just go down the cannel or get stuff from spotify in any case you wont find a bad song ...personal favourits yes but a song thats actually bad nope not one in all their albums
Ciao!!
Just pause for about 30-60 seconds a couple times throughout the song to give your opinion or analysis. And I would stick with the live performances over the actual recorded versions too. Fortunately they’re almost always better. That should keep you from getting copyright strikes.
I know man, but I just don't like to stop during a first time listen. I lose the flow of the song, which for me is a crucial element. Still, I'll figure something out ;)
I believe most of us that are requesting the songs are very well aware of the songs already. We do enjoy your reaction, but we like your breakdowns and opinions. So doing a breakdown of the songs without showing the video is fine too, if it helps you avoid copyright. Although longer solos would be nice, I think their solo length is just fine. It leaves them more room to add longer solos in their live shows.
Some guy is doing #BandMaidMondays with 3 songs each. Another channel does 2 songs on #Frimaids. Come on bro, you can't be less! What about doing 4 B-M songs next #MaidMonday? Also I'll keep recommending "I Can't Live Without You" even if I'm the only one!
