(Red Hot Chili Peppers) Guitar String Breaks, Not A Problem For John Frusciante! (Brazil 1999) #JohnFrusciante #IfYouHaveToAsk #RedHotChiliPeppers Partner: @PortalRHCP - (Instagram).
Notice how he mirrored the riff he played before the string broke.... Prince said if you make a mistake, play it twice so it looks like you did it on purpose. Pro tip.
Most guitarists won't realize enough how important bassists are until they're in a band. Whether the bassist plays complex or simple lines, the guitarist will feel empty in the band without them. A bass can have some limited melodic capabilities, but when the guitarist is in need of help incase of a problem, the bassist can help save or maintain the overall groove or music created.
Totally especially with rhcp because they have flea. I don't get to play enough but even just playing with tabs you just notice the huge difference between the song in you head and the single line of meldoy youre playing
Man the bass can have super complex melodic capabilities too. A bass and a guitar are practically the same except the strings are thinker. If you imagine it like building a guitar with a massive neck where the strings start off at the thinnest guitar string and go up to the thickest bass...it wouldn't even take that long to get there and it would be piano like! Hell the Ox thunderfingers himself rocked that shit as the lead to townsends rythm.
u should told this to metallica during the recording of their 1988 And Justice for all album Jason Newsted was an excellent bassist and he adds powerful clean backup vocals for James
Yeah Anthony just let them do their thing he wasn't trying to be the center of attention like some other band leads with big egos, not naming any band in particular
@@Poincianaa cringe comment. Bothering people over their choice of words when you ought to be fully aware of the fact he means they're great musicians.
anybody else notice the humility of kiedis to just sit back and let these guys steal the show for 5 minutes straight? not many front mans are gonna let that fly lol i love this band
@@mateotierno3780 singer is typically the front man of a band with multiple members and i will not tolerate any chad smith slander in my comments section so beat it punk
AK is the luckiest guy in whole world... he has the opportunity to watch every night the two best musicians alive of our lifetime, each in their instruments!
The fact that he not only finished the solo of the song without skipping a beat, but also went right into a jam immediately after, is just another level of amazing.
Just the way flea took over for him is crazy. Imagine how well they have to know each other for that happen. The drummer knew when to come back in on Flea and everything.
I love everything about this. 0:32 john breaks his strings in the middle of a solo and continues to the end, 0:35 plays the end of the broken note to signal to the band somethings wrong and continues his solo. 0:41 and 0:46 he works the broken string sound into a solo. 1:20 flea sees an opportunity to duet with john. 2:04 Flea segues into the first bar for a 4/4 bass line and looks up at chad to queue him in. 2:11 john's watching chad as he hits his queue to drum. 2:51 flea starts pulling back to keep band from digressing too much and everyone catches on immediately,
Love how chad starts to plays the crash for a few moments at 2:27 but then when John starts playing the wah it seems like he changes his mind and switches back to the hi hats to give John more room. Chad is so good at improvising.
@@RahulSingh-fl6bfthe dirty noise comes from the volume and the distortion on, and the second comes from the pick movement on the strings without any power chord on the guitar
1:32 Love how Flea just looks at Chad and he stops doing the swing-time on the cymbal. He understood it was just Flea and John at that moment, SUCH GOOD CHEMISTRY!
soloing without a string honestly isnt as hard as i think people think it is, most of the time when you’re soloing you’re playing around scales and chord shapes. and when you’re doing this you are trying not to play up and down the notes in the scales but rather jumping across strings playing with feel and then playing around chord shapes on the grander chords (V, I). You aren’t being required to use every string when you do this because like I said you aren’t attempting to hit every note in the scale/chord. if you break your sixth string (low E) its barely makes it any harder to solo, it only becomes difficult when you break your 2 highest strings (B, e) because most solos revolve around playing higher notes to stand out from the guitar parts in other parts of the song. even then its still entirely possible to solo especially if you are primarily just bending. i own an ibanez at the moment with a broken high e string because i havent had the chance to buy new strings and its only slightly harder to improvise than it is on my fully stringed prs. the only genre ive found it actually difficult to improvise in without a string is jazz. in jazz you primarily play around 2 octave arpeggios which ive just found very difficult to sound nice without my e string. it sounds a bit contradicting because i said when john solos he uses chord shapes a lot which is pretty easy. but just trust me, i feel like it requires a decent amount of experience to state something like that and im sorry if i sound retarded or ignorant its lowkey like 4am and im tired as fucc.
That honestly wasnt that good, just one scale and shitty improv, not saying i could do better but def wasnt impressed. Oh well. Wasnt expecting to say that.
John was so damn good, even when the string is break, he break the rule of riff and still play the melody as well as he should be. You won't believe the strings break, if you don't watch the video. Bravo, magnifico.
Love the communication in this band! How John and Flea group up, Flea tags in the solo while John begins playing rytmn to make up for the lost string, flea notices it and counts in the drums.. Just pure improvisation and deliverence on this song
This video shows the best example of how a perfect synchronized band should be: 1. John's string breaks but he adapts to it and changes his soloing style from fast to bending. 2. Flea plays some accompaniment bass that turns into a bass solo to help his guitar colleague. 3. Chad studies the situation and synchronizes everything, giving a perfect entry at 2:05. 4. Anthony keeps out while dances and animates the stage
Good thing he was playing a telecaster this time. It has a fixed bridge. Unlike the stratocaster he usually plays, which had a floating bridge, which means that if one string breaks, the resulting change in tension cam cause all of the other strings to shift and go out of tune. This doesn't happen on a guitar like a telecaster, nice and simple, and reliable, guitars.
Honestly the string couldn’t have broke at a better time cause in this song there’s the breaks between each part of the solo so when he did those pauses it wasn’t out of the ordinary and it’s John so he handled it wonderfully
Will never cease to amaze me that four absolute musical gods somehow came together into RHCP. Like every band has its star but they’re a whole damn galaxy.
OMG I remember watching this alive when it was transmitted, my old CRT tv, Ohh my.... I was only 12 and I started playing guitar after this, and I never ever stopped anymore. I'm 36 now...
This was the sign for the drummer to do the fill in and go heavy. Then they swapped roles. The guitarist played the rythm and the bassist started soloing.
that was awesome I love when something outside the solo has a effect on the outcome of the solo such as a mistake or string breaking. You can notice he completely repeats the way the mistake sounded and made it work into a repeating pattern
I love this performance so much like back when I thought I was gonna be a famous musician I definitely will wanted to have a moment in a music video that was a tribute to how he continued the solo
A broken string mid performance is my biggest fear. These guys are amazing and handled it with absolute style. If I didn’t see the string break I wouldn’t have known.
Marcos Bere nem me fala, Esse show foi incrivel. Vc encontra ele inteiro no youtube. Vale a pena assistir! No Brasil, Melhor que este, só o de 2002 no pacaembu. Abraço
@@gonzacollao Well, I mean, I was actually replying to the OP, Gonzalo. But I confess-sitting around keeping my kid’s cartoon references sharp is an area I’m super weak on. I’m way too busy NOT nursing a bong in my mom’s living room to get whatever dumb reference you made. In fact, I wasn’t even referring to you. You’ll get that the world doesn’t revolve around what you say as you go through certain... changes. For now, clean the spaghettios off your bib, and go clean your room...
