My 67yr old mother has been a piano player/teacher and a theory guru for most of her life. I was driving her from Florida to Colorado, and she had never seen your videos, so to pass time we watched your videos and I could see on her face how much joy it brought her to listen to you breaking down the theory and musicality of various pieces. We were able to bond over our shared love of music and theory! She said it felt like we were just 3 music lovers hanging out, listening to music, and talking theory. Thanks Michael!
Any Paradise Valley fans out there?? A lot of folks saying it’s Dead-inspired (which is true) but John’s been playing this style for well over a decade now with a couple albums of his own.
i agree. players like John Mayer and Afie Jurvanen (Bahamas) are so much more evolved than others. they truly are the masters of the "less is more" concept of guitar playing
Johns phrasing is some of the best in the world but a lot of people forget that his rhythm feel is just as melting. Glad your ear and reaction bought his rhythm to the front of our focus.
This style of lesson is so valuable for those who are self taught. It’s the discussions with fellow musicians, that I for one have not really ever had, regarding the intricacies of a song that really really allow one to understand the music theory while also cultivating the passion for the art. Great job ❤
These videos were the first to challenge me to think - what is a 3rd, 5th, chord tone, etc. - instead of brushing past the terms, I wanted to "hear" them the way Michael seems to. Fantastic!
Exactly this, well said! Same for me. Personally I've outgrown lessons like the Marty Schwartz style, just a bit too slow for my level where I'm at now. Michael here is perfect for jamming along, discovering new stuff, and feeling like you are in the same room with this great musician.
What a great song. Zach is such a good songwriter and the fact he got this legend to join in with him makes it incredible. Love your videos. Also, his guitar has kind of a JJ Cale feel to it as well.
@@jeff1872tI’m 60 and been into music forever, all kinds of genres and been to so many great concerts and followed many bands and singer songwriters and I can honestly say Zach is one of the best. He truly has a talent to reach people deeply. Been following him for 4 years, I know every song, even unreleased. So, I definitely know Zach’s music and love it. Music is subjective so what you like I may not and vice versa. I would advise you to go listen to his catalog before replying and making yourself look foolish.
Your love for music is all your face. That’s what music is meant to do. You introduced me to Travis Meadows and I’m very thankful for that. You are a great talent.
I love your videos man and so glad you covered this one. I know you normally do live stuff so thank you for abandoning that for this video and breaking this one down. You getting excited about it gets me excited so kudos my friend. wonderful video for a wonderful song.
I'm astonished at the sheer volume of music Zach Bryan has and is putting out! He seems like he's not sure how long this thing will last and is trying to make everything of it he possibly can. Ride that wave!
This is great on multiple levels! My daughter is 11 and a huge Zach Bryan fan which i think is awesome she appreciates real music so young. That being said when I showed her this she says..."Who is John Mayer?"😁
That song is so Greatful Dead. Of course with some tasty blues licks but it’s almost as though I hear some Dickey Betts Blue Sky vibe. Cool video dude. Great breakdown of the music.
Thanks RU-vid algo for bringing me to your page. This was fantastic. I've been a Mayer fan for a long time and your appreciation for his playing is fun to watch.
I basically play chords only. Know very little theory and don't know runs or solos or scales. You're way above me in every way, and I love this channel and everything you do. Thanks.
I'm getting some Allman Bros. and Eagles vibes also. I agree, Zach Bryan is a great songwriter. Something In The Orange is currently in the song rotation for the cover band I play with, I may have to suggest this one too... Keep on putting out the good content bro!
This is a great song and I love the way you teaching the song step by step. Awesome old guitar reefs* Eric Clapton stile spiced testfully with some Jimmi Hendrix cords slides* Congratulation! Thanks
“Better Days” reminded me of Paul Butterfield’s band of that name. Reaction suggestion for another studio track, their “Please Send Me Someone to Love” with guitar by the great Amos Garrett.
@@andymanjo Sorry man, but I'm totally self-taught with almost no knowledge of theory. I just slow it down and copy finger placement until I'm happy I sound similar enough 😅 Hopefully someone else sees your comment and responds!
...isn't it also just Jack Straw, especially where you're talking that great rhythm playing in the middle? Goes from Friend of the Devil to Jack Straw, basically.
If you’re talking about the one at 4:13, I’ve heard that riff used in at least a dozen other songs. Let’s not sit here and act like Jason Isbell invented that riff lol.
@@georgesutton2191 Reading is a skill. I didn't say he invented it. Re-read it. It's the same riff. Just like every I-iv-V riff, it's just there. It is what it is.
20 seconds into the video and straight to the song, no unnecessary jimble talk, just straight to it. Love it man! I always enjoy this quality content. Keep on going like this :)
