Ed Norton is Pete Seeger. Think the shot of Chalamet taking off his glasses in what looks to be a hospital room, while he looks at someone with curly hair, is Dylan and Guthrie.

On the cover of BD's second album, Freewheelin', Bob is posed with Suze Rotolo, his then girlfriend. The trailer presents the film as a love triangle with Bob, Joan, and Suze, although word is that the girlfriend character is fictionalized for the purposes of the film. The actress you identified early in the trailer as Joan is actually the Suze-inspired character. If you're old enough, and if you've been a Dylan fan long enough, these details are obvious, but anyone new to Dylan is in for a good story. The real Suze went on to become a successful artist, and died a few years ago.

Don't Look Back was filmed during Dylan's last acoustic tour in England, April and May 1965, but the movie was not released until 1967. June of 1965 is when Dylan started working on/recording Like A Rolling Stone and was released on his album, Highway 61 Revisited, in August of that year. Bringing It All Back Home was released in March of 1965. Side 1 was electric, side 2 was acoustic. He officially went electric, to the audiences I guess you could say, was at the Newport Folk Festival in July 1965, where he first sang Maggies Farm and then Like A Rolling Stone. To placate the audience that freaked when they heard Dylan do electric for the first time, he did, It's All Over Now Baby Blue, which is on side 2 of BIABH, as his closer.

Miley did an amazing job with that cover. I don't care about her past; she's not the first musician who went through dark days. As for the movie, I'll definitely see it. James Mangold won't fail us. I loved both Walk the Line and Ford vs. Ferrari (and I don't care a thing about cars). He also did Logan, which was an awesome movie, and I'm not all that into comic book movies either. Top notch cast in A Complete Unknown, too. It's gonna be awesome.

I’m going to see it in the theaters for sure!! I’m super pumped for this movie and maybe long over due, however if they do this justice, then worth the wait. Both Johnny Cash and Bob Dylan are icons, maybe different “genres”, but iconic none the less. They also had a great appreciation for each other and their duet of of the Girl from the North Country is absolutely fantastic!!

Ironically today is the anniversary of Dylan going electric. His vinyl is the most collected by audiophiles. Neil Young being second place. Johnny Cash was more niche when Walk The Line came out. Same with The Doors. Those movies propelled them into mainstream popularity. I am very excited for this new movie. The trailer is beautiful already. Timothee Chalamet is going to blow up like Joaquin Phoenix.

Fun fact Steve jobs and his Apple cofounder Steve Wozniak were absolutely obsessed with Dylan and would hunt for his vinyls back when they had just started Apple. “The two of us would go tramping through San Jose and Berkeley and ask about Dylan bootlegs and collect them,” said Wozniak. “We’d buy brochures of Dylan lyrics and stay up late interpreting them. Dylan’s words struck chords of creative thinking.” Jobs was so enamoured he rang Baez to ask if she could teach him to play piano, and even though she said she didn’t know how to, he asked if they could meet up anyway. They ended up dating, he was still just 27 and whilst Baez was 41! 😂

hey Tony....this needs to be a thanksgiving, christmas opening. The day Dylan dies the earth will shake. I feel the same way about Paul Simon. As the earth shook when John Lennon was murdered. Is Dylan niche? No. He is musical history, if they actually taught that in schools anymore. You may be thinking of I'm Not There directed by Todd Haynes, a surreal examination of 6 different periods in Bob Dylan's life played by different actors playing characters that are not Dylan but are representative of those periods. Very Fellini-esque. Even though I am not really a fan of biopics I will see this if it makes it to theaters in Japan. You're Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go is one of the Dylan songs that I perform around a campfire.

@iMark22
@iMark22 Месяц назад
yes..and if you go frame by frame you do catch a shot of Woody from behind, the curly hair. . It's the very short clip with Dylan standing looking at a person, the rooms window has metal window grates. This Is Dylan's visit to Woody who is in a Hospital bed in NJ. BTW I am so looking forward to this movie. First saw Dylan as an 10 year old at the Syria Mosque in PGH in 66 with my older sister, then again in 75 during Rolling Thunder and his music has been a constant in my life. Timothy certainly has done an excellent job here, and if I'm not mistaken the entire project has the blessing of Dylan himself. The trailer does capture the vibe extremely well. I 1st drove from Pgh to NYC in 1970 to see my sister who was NYU then and the trailer for sure captures that Village era very well ( I moved to NYC in 78 and even then the village and downtown area seemed frozen in time, before the massive gentrification and construction boom that began in the 90s.) Timothy does a tremendous job here capturing Dylan. If this movie is as powerful as Walk the Line it will hopefully inspire a new generation of Dylan fans!

ironcally the movie is inspired by the book Dylan went electric! which I assume is what the later film will be about. they do change a little bit that pete and woody met him a bit before Greenwich village but don't mind that since bob made up his own background so the biopic treatment kinda works for bob in that way. this movie is definitely getting nominated for set design, they recreated greenwich village as you can tell, and Clomiba recording studios during the 60s and the whole town of newport as well. Oh and, johnny cash will be in this film as well, they met before cash played his show at the early Newport folk festival

It is every bit phenomenal as you have stated in the review, but I can't entirely agree with it needing my being a protege of Salvador Dali to love or appreciate it. Yes of course I worked closely with Tyler for the build, and had a LOT of input, and pushed Tyler the entire build, but this to me is what a custom made instrument should be. Loved your picking Dylan on your Collings and it sounded great. Dylan was unquestionably my first Dali, and while it might have been Like a Rolling Stone, or Positively Fourth Street that ran me over like a truck and stole my mind and body, I too, love going back to the early stuff and thank you for the post and your playing.

I watched it on Friday night and was very underwhelmed. When I got up on the Saturday morning I thought to myself “ that movie will not leave my mind alone. I watched it again and all was revealed. I would say that movie is a masterpiece and for me personally is in my top 5 movies after all time.

I’m just happy that Edward Norton is back in a movie. If Norton wasn’t a monster pain in the ass he would have had a huge movie career.

I never was a big Dlyan fan but I would be interested to see this movie. The Johnny & June Carter Cash movie was really great so I look forward to seeing this! Laurel Canyon was also great with the interviews. We all love deep roots and wings to fly.♡♡

Woodie Guthrie was Bob Dylan's greatest inspiration and it was Guthrie whom Dylan visited in the hospital.

Great to see you, Tony! The decision was totally understandable, but Acoutstic Tuesdays is sorely missed. Favorite Dylan cover (and there are many)? Jimi's All Along The Watchtower, but that reflects the era in which I grew up. Mom and Dad were New Christy Minstrel fans, but I was more Zeppelin, so Jimi was a hero. Peace.

I rarely like biographical movies about iconic celebrities, as they always fail at the main thing they’re aiming at, trying in vain to capture the unique talents & draw that made them so captivating & more popular than their contemporaries in the first place….. nearly always misses the mark & consequently comes off as soul less & disengagin. This one doesn’t sound to be any different…. just my opinion, of course.

Walk The Line Was Arguably One Of Biggest Acoustic Guitar Biopic But I think Timothiee Clammit Will nail this role As Bob Dylan
