at the beginning he is getting his groove and he keeps his vocal and feel for the notes with the beginning part i feel, as he progressives through the song he starts to feel it all and is at home with it all....like a warm up
people talking about rome apparently dont realize that Sublime was in Brad's estate. Bud and Eric couldnt use the name carrying on without him. Bud quit after the first album. Jakes not perfect, but neither was Bradley live. Even when he wasnt in active addiction he'd still be really loose on stage, and have fun with it. As a long time fan of the band; I love seeing him up there playing his Dad's guitar, and going for it. Sublime is, NOWELL, Bud, and Eric. I'm very surprised though that Miguel isnt playing lead guitar. He plays in Long Beach Dub All Stars, and as the 4th member of sublime, recorded Brads solos when he wasnt feeling well, and sang on Scarlett.
No, it's that the fans want the best music possible. And would really prefer the more talented Rome to this. Jakob is worse than any of the sublime cover bands. Both vocally and musically.
@@uns33nThe real Sublime fans know that it's not about the technicality. Bradley barely ever hit all the notes live... Sublime shows were just a great time. And Jakob brings back that same energy. ❤
Gen Z is in for a real treat. Sublime Light, Jack Osborne playing Black Sabbath songs, Madonna’s kid doing her catalog, The Jackson 3? , Cobain’s and Grohl’s daughters should tour as Nirvana.
Man this show just brings all smiles and my eyes swell up with Big Salty Tears. Jakob holding it down for his Pops. I just hear Brad’s voice coming through often. Beautiful. Great vid man! And also just back from PHISH @ the SPHERE?! Couch tour here😂 That had to be an incredible experience. Did you go all four nights? And if so- which was your fav? Anyway🫡 much love from Alabama🤘🏼…. My Friend, My Friend
This is all Southern California....nothing better than rolling down PCH in Sunset Beach at 4:30 PM on a Tuesday with your buds while listening to these tunes. So many memories!
From one Michael to another that was a beautiful theory breakdown as well as your playing and PRS. This is only the 3rd time in history Nowell flesh and blood has ever played Santeria live, it's a big moment for Sublime and their fans. A Major biopic movie release is coming out on Sublime in theaters and Net-flix as well as a Documentary I'm releasing.
@@rmar2158 Actually from inside word at least 3-5 Documentaries have actually been shut down by the Family. Cobain went down as a Legend cause he was propped up by the industry for a movement, while Nowell died before the album came out sadly.. The world is going to learn of Nowell's Genius this or next year though. He was not only a lyrical, melodic, musical genius but he was extremely high aptitude in academia which none of the other greats had except for a few.
I remember first hearing Jakob sing maybe 10 years ago and was blown away by how much he sounded like his dad. He's only grown to look and sound even more like his dad over the years. Almost makes me emotional.
I definitely have to endorse The Sphere! I'm not the biggest U2 fan but I scored a pit ticket for the 10th ever show there the night before I went to When We Were Young. The visuals were beyond astounding! At one point the graphics were spinning backwards and everyone around me in the pit was getting disoriented because it made us feel like we were spinning! The sound in there is incredible too. I think they have over 100k speaker drivers aimed at every seat.
I'm amazed that they can direct the sound with such accuracy that one person could be hearing the lyrics in one language and a couple seats over they're hearing it in a different language. I can't wrap my head around the whole thing yet. lol. The Phish videos from the Sphere are bonkers. Look for the one with the robot and his eyes shining down into the crowd.
They're all new again, getting back into this. Jakob is extremely talented, he slips a bit on guitar, but he'll get it rock solid, and it'll sound incredible. I Its easy to either sing, or play a song on guitar alone. But it's a real challenge tying it all together singing and playing guitar at the same time. It's a muscle memory thing, and memory thing. Think of it like this. Your not only having to remember and recall allllll of the lyrics, but you also have to remember what frets your fingers are supposed to be on. It can be 3 simple notes on guitar that's easy to play alone, but you also don't want to sing a wrong word while trying to find the guitar note at the same time. When I'm learning a song, I always end up hitting the right note with my voice, but the wrong note on guitar a few times. Then im like. How did I mess that up? Haha. For me, I focus too much on the difficult parts, then I mess up the easiest parts that I was super confident at. More practice live with the band is the best way to iron out those little kinks. And making sure your key word is at the same time as the right note on that part of the riff. Sometimes lyrics have a few words before the down beat, and sometimes the guitar had a few notes before the down beat. Getting those 2 things lined up on the down beat makes all the difference!
I grew up on Sublime… a kid on the bus made me listen to 40oz, changed my life… then a few years later What I got was on the OG X Games soundtrack, as a skater/snowboarder punk kid I took the deep dive into Sublime… And ya never gave Rome a chance lol.
My Sublime T-shirt finally fell apart after 24 years. He is Bradley’s son all the way. Eric and Bud, best rhythm section ever. Vibe was here and nothing wrong with being a nepo baby. He’s got it. Dad wasn’t perfect live either. 😊
This is the only video I've watched with Jakob. I desperately want him to nail down his playing. He doesn't have to be an absolute stud on the guitar, just tighten up the screws and settle in. If he can do that, it'll be Sublime as they've always been meant to sound.
His solo stuff and his stuff with law are worth checking out. It's very good and often very not sublime sounding. Dude can sing his ass off and is a clever lyricist also.
Don’t forget Sublime was PUNK at their core. Solo’s don’t have to be perfect. It can be dirty. The kid is killing it and reminds me of his dad on vocals. I loved Brads voice, he comes very close and knowing it is his son makes me happy.
He was a little sloppy but I'm sure he will work out the kinks as they play more. I suspect his other band may have been more rhythm playing, which he seemed to handle pretty well. I also think there was a little adrenaline and nerves going on here.
great video, Just a small request. Review Princes version of creep by radiohead at coachella. there's two good quality versions of it on youtube. But the best sound quality is the one with 97k views not 10mil.
Huge sublime fan here, I think Bradley was one of the most soulful singers ever, sure he got sloppy when he played live, but his voice was just special. Jakob has a voice really similar to his dad’s. This was their first big gig (they played an HR tribute show back in December). So imagine the pressure. If you listen to the second weekend at Coachella, you’ll hear a big improvement in his voice (and he let Trey take the Santeria solo that time haha). Then listen to their recent show at Brightside festival in Orlando, and they sound even better. So it seems he’s taking constructive criticism and applying it to the shows. I think they’ll keep getting better and better with time, and you can’t go wrong with Bud and Eric as your rhythm section.
Michael, we recently lost a brother in the law enforcement community in charlotte nc. Please react to, Dearest Sarah by Goodnight Texas. It's about a war, but it parallels the lives of law enforcement. Thank you Sir
Man, one of the great regrets of my life is that when Sublime came to my hometown on the Warped tour in 1995, I decided to go skateboard during their set because they played my town every other week it seemed like. Needless to say, I felt pretty stupid since that was my last chance to see the original band. Don't assume you get second chances at anything, peeps.
Jakob is a little rough around the edges, but imagine being the son of Bradley and trying to live up to his dad! That had to be more than nerve racking! I got to see Sublime with Rome live last summer and I have to say that he did a way better job! But this is still cool AF! 😎
plz plz take a look at this PINK FLOYD "Another Brick in the Wall" | Fingerstyle Acoustic Guitar Cover and PURPLE RAIN - Acoustic Fingerstyle Prince Cover by Justin Johnson
Bradley was a beautiful mess on stage, but his genius mixed wjth charisma was the magic. Jakob was nervous naturally in front of that huge Coachella audience. He is not a great guitar player, obviously but like the original Sublime, its all about vibe and the rhythm section of Bud and Eric allowing the vox to soar... Jakob relinquished the lead guitar parts to the 2nd guitarist on Weekend 2 of Coachella, which was a FAR better performance from the whole band, especially Jakob. Imagine how emotional it is for him, how cathartic... The kid did great all things considered! Watch, in a year, they'll be so hot on stage, no one will ever bring this performance up again #sublime4ever
Brad's guitar and his Triple Rectifier. Miguel was holding onto them apparently and when the were talking about getting Sublime back he gave them to Jakob.
That solo was hard to listen too, i can play it cleaner and in tune at least, like you did Michael. Im not sure how i feel about him calling it sublime, but life and all that
Brad was an excellent guitarist. Jakob is not nearly as good, but if he treats playing guitar like a full time job he can be very good. If you watch videos of their performances since this one, he’s already a little cleaner. I’m sure nerves played a big part.
Just got back from the sphere!?!? Didn’t he swear off phish when he couldn’t monetize their charity stream over COVID!? Lol wut. Regardless, another good video. We need a disco biscuits reaction. It’s long overdue.
Maybe I'm not seeing it, but, the fact that you haven't done a video about Reverend Proton's Big Damn Band is, a travesty. I don't know if there's a better finger pickin' slide guitarist out there currently performing, and the sound they get from a guitar, a washboard, and a drum set is crazy! I'd love to hear your breakdown of them.
To say the kid is terrible is silly. Don’t know if a lot of you were around when Bradley was still alive. They were infamous for being too fucked up to play their instruments. And having terrible shows. Was kinda their thing.
i say the same thing every chance i get. the son is about as good as you're typical drunken guy playing it in a bar. Rome was so much more solid in every way. people just love same-ness, in this case: the DNA haha
because Rome made money off a name he didnt have permission to use. The Nowell family owns all the rights to the sublime name. he disrespected their family
@@jeffe9083your forgetting that Eric Wilson asked a then 20 something year old Rome to front the band and wanted to tour with the name Sublime until the family said no, so they called it Sublime with Rome. Rome did what any kid his age would do when their Hero’s asked them to front their band. If anyone wants to be mad about a money grab using the sublime name, then I would point at Eric, the same guy who bailed on a fully booked final Sublime with Rome tour for his next money grab with Jakob. Disclaimer I am a huge Sublime fan and am happy as long the music lives on, I just don’t like the mis-pointed hate at Rome.
The intro was definitely not there, the solo was rough for sure, I’m a huge Sublime fan since I first heard them at a house party in 1991. Jacob’s vocals are kind of schizophrenic sounding like Bobcat Goldwait talks. It’s difficult to play guitar, It’s really difficult to lead sing and play guitar and remember lyrics and be In rhythm and in key. The ending was botched for sure.
I really hope he gets better at both guitar and vocals. He doesn't need to "play the guitar like a mf'ing riot" like his dad, but so far he's not even close to Rome's level. Cool tribute though!
Nah... I mean, it wasn't A+ level but he's in the moment. He didn't detract from the vibe of the song. I remember back in the day, we saw a band cover Santeria and the lead was a FANTASTIC player, but his vibe was all wrong. It's like he was technically correct, but had the feeling completely wrong. Jakob is exactly the opposite. Far from technically perfect, but 100% has the vibe correct. I'll take the vibe over technical precision EVERY TIME. When I can't have both.
@@bwaredapenguin whats really sad, I remember hearing Jakob's solo work years and years ago and he sounded 10x better than this. Im going to assume this was the last song of the set, and his voice was gone by that point or something.
Maybe there’s a reason Miguel or anyone else from the Sublime family aren’t involved in this. Suggestion: Jacob, learn the songs. Take the guitar out of his hands and get a real player in there and it’ll be great.
