I'm not sure if there are that many live performances of this song, but "Wife's Soup" is one of my favorite Umphrey's songs and it has a great guitar solo.
Take heart Michael, about a year ago the band did a live stream from Jake's studio. At the end of Plunger, in which I guess there were a few flubs (not that I heard) Baylor exclaimed, "When we were young kids writing tunes like this we didn't imagine one day we'd be old ass men trying to play them!" To which Jake replied, "Back to the Drawing Board Tour 2020".
Awesome Michael, I've had the pleasure of jumping on the UM train in 2001 when my band opened for them at a little club in Chicago. Totally blew me away. Been a sick fan boy ever since. Thanks for treading the waters
I have loved this song since like 2004, but you have put it into an entirely new perspective of just how awesome it actually is. Dude, these videos are amazing. Please never stop.
You should def get as close as possible to immerse yourself the first time you see them. Obviously you’ll want to see the guitar playing up close anyway. It’s been a wild ride since 2003. Almost wish I could go back and re-live my first experiences with them again 😁 Enjoy!
I love me some Umphreys.. all the reasons you say here is why theyre my absolute favoirte. Just got back from 2 nights of them.. These videos you make are amazing!
Dude you are going to have a blast at that show! Would love to see your reaction to your 1st Umph show! I get to see them in August in Birmingham, AL! It will be my 20th show (not counting couch tour etc.)! I'm stoked as hell for you!
I first met the band when they were handing out demo tapes at the first Deer Creek further fest back in the day. Outstanding guys and musicians. Then about 10 years later they were the final show at the best local music venue by me before it was torn down. Epic night 😉. Thanks michael for all that u do for the scenes and industry!!
Thanks Michael that is a tough one and one of the great oldies. Blows dust off record... I think I have a small grasp on this song now. My wife gave me strange looks and told me I smelled lol. Thank you.
Flew out to Red Rocks last week to see my brother. Caught their Friday night show, and had front row seats. Definitely one of their 'heavier' shows. Sounded awesome! Chris was crushing the drums!
I don't really know of a better guitar player than Jake. He said he built that main riff around a drum fill. He has a technique where he'll think of drum patterns and transpose them to guitar. Brilliant mind and ability.
UM is one of the few bands (Tower of Power being the other) whose music I heard in public somewhere and immediately had to inquire about and get the album that was playing.
Great vid please react to the main squeeze cover of While my guitar gently weeps. The guitar solo in the cover has become one of my favorite solos I've heard so much feel and emotion in it. Thanks
As someone who has followed for a while now, PLEASE react to Heavy Blanket by Berried Alive. It’s something not many have reviewed yet, but will definitely be reacted to PLENTY in the coming months. Your guitar expertise is perfect for dissecting the video as some of the techniques used are so wild. Would absolutely love to see a reaction/analysis video. Also I know you’ll find it very entertaining.
Hi Michael. Do you have any tip to identify inner notes of a chord? i can figure out the bass note and the highest note of the chord but i am finding it impossible to identify the rest of the notes.Thank you for what you do 🙏🙏🙏
Just subbed when I watched you're reaction to Justin T and Chris Stapleton! Those two wow don't think you can get any better! Hey have you ever heard and band called JJ Grey& Mofro ?? If not I encourage you to check them out. Southern rock/blues from Florida. " 99 shades of crazy" " Orange blossoms " "better days" and on and on and on!
Michael’s got to check out that live version of The Sun Is Shining Down. The intro story gets me every single time . I cry whenever I listen to it. JJ has so many great songs. Ho Cake, Lochloosa, Brighter Days, Every Minute, This River and the list goes on!
They are almost two completely different bands between their albums and concerts. Their albums show their song writing prowess. It's more about the song and the composition of each album. Live they are a jam band, and it's more about the show and experience. One song will morph into 3 and then back into 1 seamlessly. Here is where their technicality shines.
@@zack3135 I agree. I wouldn’t really consider them a jam band live just because it’s so structured when they transition from song to song with out breaks but they are truly fantastic band though!!
