This is the gold standard for tremolo tutorial online, I always come back to parts 1 and 2 to measure my progress. Here is a student tip: I began tremolo with nails, but as my nails would grow, and one breaks, and I try to even out the rest, and another breaks (when it is just right), and so on, I could never get a consistent, even tremolo effect. Then, one time when a nail broke, and I trimmed all the others to match, I happened to watch the no nails video, which gave me permission to play classical with no nails. And guess what? The sound is even, consistent, day after day. Now I trim (always file, never clip) my nails down to keep that plucky flesh tone, and I have full control. When I use a metronome it is more to slow myself down, than to aim for speed. Been playing no nails for months now. Never going back. 👍
4:20 I cannot believe this tip or trick. I was repeating this part like many times and when I play fingertip of any song I suddenly realize that my fingers were like moving indenpendently you know. This is crazy. I will finish to see all the video
Cheers Brandon. I've been playing classical guitar for 25 years and always struggled with getting the balancing right. Your one tip of lowering the wrist has made enough of a difference that I'm confident it's only a short period of practising away from being "right"

My teacher always taugh me by telling me to listen the sound and find my own music, that ended up I became so musical with no support of the foundation of techniques. I taught myself how to play classical guitar from youtube videos and without a teacher, I had little guidance. I remember performing a tremolo piece for a competition in high school, and the judges made comments that my tremolo needed work in essentially all the areas you addressed here. I had no idea what they were talking about, or how to improve my sound. You are providing for people insight into the nuances that will make them better musicians and, ultimately, classical guitarists. I remember stumbling across your Verano Porteno video when I was learning it two years ago, and I was in awe of your musicality, and a little sad at how few views it had. That's the actual meaning of these italian words as we use them in modern Italian TREMOLO = (noun) tremble, quiver, shake, flickr STACCATO = (adj) separated, set apart, unbound LEGATO = (adj) tied, bound CRESCENDO = (verb) growing up, building up DESCRESCENDO = (verb) the exact contrary of Crescendo RUBATO = (adj) Stolen you're welcome
#2 is spot on, I'd even suggest just learning tremolo starting on the inside strings as they highlight the overextension early on, before muscle memory has time to set in which then forces you to relearn your finger movement patterns and unlearn your previous patterns. You can then just use this technique for the high E string anyway

Brandon, to me when I first started working on my tremolo, I had a tremendous problem getting the sound that I wanted due to my nails. I think getting the perfect size for your picking nails plays a dramatic role on adjusting your tremolo technique and sound. I would love your feedback onto that.
I'd strongly recommend this instruction since he is the first youtube teacher I've seen to add music interpretation to tremolo technique. (And it's so funny that he is able to demonstrate a galloping amateur-like tremolo intentionally.)
Years ago, I had a crash course in using tremolo teaching myself to play "tomorrow tomorrow" by Elliott Smith. At the time I had no knowledge of proper technique, I just had tabs and a couple RU-vid covers to reference. I realize now that I was galloping through the song like a horse 😂
That ending of Recuerdos is the focus point of many guitarrists that have reached that level and have the intelligence to pay attention to one of the most important parts of the song.

Watched this 3 years ago during Covid. Back again now as I'm thinking in more detail about my right hand technique. So useful to get really focused and detailed information of this kind. I've also been watching some videos on right hand 5 string banjo technique, which is so different but very interesting in terms of specific technique.
