So "Thrill" is a good song, but it is the "poppy" side of Band Maid in my opinion. Got to see them live to really appreciate. They have three songs from their most recent (2/14) concert out on video currently. Choose me, Domination, and most recently Freedom.
I don't know. It's the first one I heard from them and I immediately understood how exceptional they were. It may not be the best song of theirs but it still oozes with their talent.
Believe it or not, Miku Kobato, the rhythm guitarist (one's with red rose) at the point when she start the band back then in 2012 till this music video was released in 2014, still can't play guitar properly. Since then (until now) she's mentored by the lead guitarist, Kanami Tono. Now Miku is a monster in her position!
"It almost looks fake" - I'm not angry on you for saying that, because that was my first thought too : "too good to be true". Then I saw live performances. Then I saw them live. And I'm angry on myself for not having heard of 'em before! Fan for life.
The edit is off in some places from all the takes and I think since no band is playing during filming there are pieces where they just are tired on take 20 and not syncing to studio track. But the solos are spot on and that's when, wow 6 years ago, I went f#&k more please. Accept there wasn't more then accept early pop punk sound they had.
Nothing fake about those ladies ;) . Wait until you see their live performances, they're literally some of the best in the business. As for thrill, TBH, while it's a catchy tune it pretty much chains them. The drummer Akane should be listed in the history books alongside Neil Peart, John Bonham and Phil Collins. Thrill doesn't let you see that nor does it let you see the other 4 members (Saiki, Misa, Kanami and Miku) at their best. You are just scratching the surface with this band. I have been down the Band-Maid rabbit hole for a while and cannot see myself getting out. Not only are these maidens Top Notch Musicians but damn good songwriters. Their live performances are amazing and should remove any doubt of their musical ability. They have an extensive catalog of tunes I would say you can't go wrong with any of them. If you need good starters set then I would go with the live versions of Play, Moratorium, Puzzle, Real Existence, Dice, Blooming, Alone... to get the ball rolling.

These ladies are not fake. You also have to realize this was a video from 2014. Early in their careers. Its also not a commercial gimmick. They formed this band themselves. Check out their latest songs and you will realize just how good they are.

Next you need to react to "Play"(live version), the instrumental song "Onset" (live), and "Choose Me" video. I had a chance to see them when they first came to America and didn't because the name made me think they were just a gimmick. Since I discovered them on youtube, I've kicked myself ever since for that. Can't wait to see them live someday.

Man! You've discovered a really great band. BAND-MAID can caught you offguard because of their image, but that's what the rhythm guitarist, Kobato Miku, wanted when she became with the idea of creating this band: to make a contrast between what you see and what you hear, something that she calls "the gap". This band is really talented. I think they primarly play a Hard Rock/Power Pop style, but they borrow a lot of elements from Metal, Punk, Blues, Funk and Jazz, and they know hoy to incorporate all of that in one song and showing lot of influences, so their music can remind you a lot of bands in rock history, without sounding like them, they have their own distinctive style. And their range is really wide, sometimes they can be really heavy or more energetic, sometimes they like to pull out soft ballads, etc, they don't stick to some particular way to do music. And their live performances are fire, they really know how to put a show. They're not only masters on their instruments, they always have a good time playing and you can feel that energy and passion. Well, your reaction is so natural and honest, which I really appreciate. "Almost looks fake." That's what most of people think the first time they see this MV. Then you see them play live on the stage, and you fall into the rabbit hole of Band-Maid.

This song is my favorite because this song gave them a flight to their new songs. This song appeared as a bonus on their first single album and got much attention that they took a leap into the dark with "Real Existence", from then on... the next and the next after and so on... ONLY great hits with crazy riffs. Please, listen to them more often !!
Hi yes very different, this was their first video from 2014. The band was founded by the rhythm guitar player Miku Kobato. This song was not written by them, the management company didn't accept their own music. But basically all their newer music is written and composed by Kanami Tono the lead guitarist. Misa the bass player and Akane the drummer went to a prestigious music school in Japan together. Saiki the lead vocalist was the last to join, Miku Kobato didn't think she had a voice that would be like rock sound. Sorry for the long winded statement, but I found these talented women back on Facebook back in 2014. I have followed them ever since. Loved your reaction. 👍👍
Watch as many Band-Maid lives as possible. They truly shine in their live videos. Kanami is a goddess on guitar and MISA slays on bass. Akane is one of the best rock drummers out there right now.

This was their first vid and pretty basic for them. Saw these ladies in London in 2018 and was blown away by their stage chemistry. Honestly I haven't stopped smiling since. You have to watch a live vid. Anything will do. 😁
Great reaction! Their goal was a hard rock/metal sound with melodic vocals. The singer is exceptional, because her nice voice still powers through a heavy wall of sound. “Thrill” is pretty much their 1st video release, and it made an impact. Band Maid has many more hard songs that are more intricate, but “Thrill” is one of my top songs because it’s a clean, direct hard rocking song. The drummer, bassist, and lead guitarist are musicians of the highest level. I discovered Band Maid about 3 years ago and have found all their songs to be free of any duds, which I can’t say about any other group.

These gals are world class musicians, and prolific songwriters. They've put out a lot of music in the past few years. You're gonna fall in love with this band. From a composition perspective, I'd recommend Yolo and Domination MVs to start with (these songs really show off the band's songwriting talents imo). Many of their live performances are better than the studio versions, but I'd avoid the fan cams and some of the vids that have re-mixed the originals in odd ways.
You mentioned two male amazing guitarist, let me introduce you to two of the worlds greats right out of Japan, Miyako and Midori out of the band Lovebites. In my opinion no one comes close to their mastery. You can pick any song of theirs and be completely blown away. If you like Iron Maiden, Dragon force, abd Judas Priest, you gotta check out Lovebites. These beautiful young ladies never disappoint

I just got into Band-Maid in Feb 2020 and they are by far the most entertaining rock band I've seen in decades. There are so many songs to rock out to, but I'd check out "Dice", "Play", or "Domination". Any one of those songs will make you seek out all things Band-Maid after that, even if you don't understand a word they are saying.

I discovered this band earlier this week and listened to the song once. Grabbed my guitar immediately and starting working out the main riffs. Without “Thrill” we wouldn’t have Band-Maid, they where on the verge of calling it quits until Thrill exploded on social media and pointed the girls down the right path.
Awesome groove. I love the cutesy cute, anime, approach and the almost shocking music coming from them. This juxtaposition of appearance and music blew me away. 'Baby Metal' is worth checking out for Japanese connection -> 'Li-sa-x' a rising star just kills "Satch Boogie" in a RU-vid vid.

Not fake ... been following this band since 2014 or so ... I'm 64 and grew up with The Beatles, The Who, Queen, Zepplin, and Band-Maid takes #1 spot for me. And this was their very first release, they now have over 90 songs, most of which are even better (there are no bad Band-Maid songs.)

This was my fist song of theirs as well and I had the exact same thoughts. 1) That was great, where can I hear more 2) Please god don't let it be fake. Six months later I own physical copies of all of their CD's and the most recent concerts Blu-Ray. They are quite simply the best rock band in the world currently performing. in my opinion.
You grasped the idea of 'the gap' right away. The difference between what you see and what you hear was the entire idea Miku (rhythm guitarist/backup vocalist) had in forming this band. And you can probably tell in this video she isn't really experienced with her guitar...but she gets so much better in the six years between the filming of this video and now. So does everybody else in the band, even with their enormous head starts. Still, I love the groove of this song for the simple hard rock jam that it is.
Domination live . 2020 concert will dispel any doubt as to the real power and genius of this band . prepare to go down the rabbit hole and become a fan for life
React to their live performance, it is one of those bands that only live reaction do them justice. Onset is a instrumental showcase of their talent and a song like Domination is more their normal talent showcase but they are a hit machine, they have everything going for them.
Congrats you found their first music video dating back to 2014, It's good and it showcases an incline of their talent to be. However it was before they had full creative freedom from the their first record company they belonged to. Check out the Domination Live video from this February.

You’ll probably like Lovebites a lot. They’re very metal, all female and from japan and well if you listen to the song, “When Destinies Align” it’ll probably give you a dragon force vibe. Look up the official video. For band maid, I say go with a live one, “Domination” from the 2-14-2020 show. It’s on their official RU-vid. Good reaction!
