I just looked up the distance needed to takeoff for a G650er and it was 6200 feet..That video was way less than 3000 feet..Even if you are way below MGWTakeoff. Does anybody know the real numbers for takeoff speed? Ballpark

I can't believe they replace all the buttons and switches in the overhead with some touch screens in the G500. I absolutely don't like that at all.

Kaipeternicolas It's just the way our technology is going. We can't stay in the past if we are to advance our technology. LCD screens bring simplicity and versatility. Remember that each single analogue gauge is dedicated to one piece of data only (e.g fuel gauge is for fuel only, pressure gauge is for pressure only, voltage gauge is for voltage only etc). That makes the cockpit cluttered and complicated especially in modern aircraft where you have to monitor so much more. You would need hundreds of gauges to monitor everything. Whereas with LCD screens, you can call up multiple strings of data on one single LCD screen all at once. All you have, for example with this Gulfstream G650ER Synthetic Vision-Primary Flight Display, are 4 LCD screens in front of you replacing hundreds of analogue gauges and switches. Surely that has to be much more simpler and cleaner than analogue. It's time to let analogue die in peace.

Nobody is debating about LCD vs analoge instruments here! We are talking about the OVERHEAD PANEL which is already clean and easy to use and there was no need for displays there at all. Not sure if you've ever been in a G450 cockpit, but it's anything but "cluttered". Also, having switching for only one function in dedicated places is a lot easier than having to click through sub-menus. Scenario: Oh, let's turn on the exterior lights. Lets go to Aircraft Functions > Lights > Exterior Lights > NAV LIGHT ON , BEACON LIGHT ON etc. You get it. I don't think they will make it that deep, but you see the problem. I've been seeing the same issues with the G2000 panel.

The Iphone is not a $50 million jet with the potential to kill hundreds of people if a single component freezes or fails at the wrong time.

I notice that pushing and pulling the controls after lineup to check that they’re free and clear now seems to be standard operating procedure on these Gulfstreams. Is that SOP on other jets, or is this an extra step added after that Gulfstream test aircraft tried to take off with its gust locks on?
@Carlonsho
@Carlonsho Год назад
there is a flight control check that you need to do during the after start and taxi checklist (G650). probably this pilot was flying the previous versions before which had a gust lock and there is an accident about it so he continue doing the check after the check as you said. just a theory

Question to the pilots. I live in Little Rock , Arkansas and we do not have an international airport. Say I wanted to go to Sao Paulo , Brazil. I am sure that I cannot just take off and land there. Does it make a difference if my take off city has an international airport and what would I need to do before taking off. Thanks.
@jeffragar3493
@jeffragar3493 5 лет назад
My (not expert) understanding is that having a customs department area to check passports is what makes an airport "international". You should be able to fly to Brazil from any airport but return to an international airport to pass customs before continuing to Arkansas.

You can fly out of the United States from any airport, but can only enter the US via airports with CBP service. When flying out of the US, your departure info is submitted to CBP online. But, you need to enter AND exit Brazil at airports with immigration. This is the case for most of the countries in the world. The US is one of the only 6 countries in the world that does not have formal exit control (electronic submission only).

also, to add a little to these other gentlemen's comments, you would need to contact a flight plan provider like Universal Weather & Aviation in Houston and set it up because you're going to need: 1 Departure fuel uplift, catering (which you could arrange yourself with TAC Air) - UVA will need a list of the crew/pax names, copies of their passports for your outbound GenDec to submit to Brazil's Customs. 2. You will need UVA to secure your overflight permits. 3. UVA can secure you arrival slot time (of course, it might not be required) - are you going into the main airport or Campinas? 4. You may require a "letter" from a Brazilian sponsor that you're conducting business, etc. 5. UVA will need to set up your passenger's transport (also for the crew). 6. UVA can set up your passengers as well as the crew hotels. 7. A UVA handler will meet your flight and assist your passengers through customs/immigration, transportation, etc. then turn their attention to the crew (still at the aircraft getting it ready for it's outbound flight). 8. You'll need to give the handler your fuel load for departure and advise when you want it uplifted (fuel there is the same density unlike Far Eastern countries) as well as your outbound catering order. 9. Then once you're all passed through C/I, have made it to your hotel, and are settled in, relax, have a nice dinner or whatever (unless you flew during nighttime hours to arrive earlier in the day) get your rest, then begin planning for your outbound segment with UVA - a departure slot for your day of departure. 10. Flight plan delivered to your hotel four hours prior to departure (two hours show time at the airport with your handler - your handler will also have a copy of the flight plan, copies of overflight permits, GenDec, etc.). 11. A good thorough walk-around (maybe you had arranged for private security) then uplifting Jet-A while your flight attendant takes accepts the catering, ice, etc. That's about it - if I left anything out please accept my apologies (haven't flown in about 18 months due to bypass surgery and still waiting to see if the FAA will allow me to fly again with a new medical). OH, BTW - Little Rock is now the Bill & Hillary Clinton National Airport and is an International Operations Customs Landing Rights Airport. Bon Voyage!
