From the island Orust you can take the ferry to Gullholmen which take 10 minutes. The islands have no cars. One part of the community is located on a small island. On this island the houses is built very close to each other and you can say hello to the neighbors through the window. There is a convivial atmosphere where small alleys meander among old fisherman's cottages and boathouses. In the harbor area there are a few restaurants and cafes, where you can eat good food and look out over the playful boat life.
There are not many people living on Gullholmen for the whole year, under 100 persons. During the summer there are many tourists visiting the island.
If you want to buy a summerhouse here, I saw one for sale for 2 500 000 Euros, perhaps not the one that I can buy😊.
Gullholmen is one of Bohuslän's oldest fishing villages, dating back probably to the 1300th century. During the great herring periods of the 1800th s and 1900th , the community grew further and cannery, saltery and sail making were added. Cutters for fishing and shipping began to be used, which made Gullholmen a vibrant skipper and fishing community. Much of the island's old character is still preserved today with boathouses, piers and a well-visited guest harbor. Until 1999, Gullholmen land was owned by the state and was free to build on, paving the way for the dense settlement that today characterizes the island.
The second half of the community is located on Härmanö, one of Bohuslän's largest nature reserves. A half-hour walk south on Härmanö takes you to a wonderful environment, paths for walking in the nature and wonderful bathing areas.
