It is up to those of us who can have a civil discussion to not let the inflexible ideologues dominate the discussion. If a person cannot hear an opposing view without becoming uncontrollably angry, then they do not have a thought out and/or educated position. They have an emotion-based opinion and no argument more complex than, "I'm right & you're a monster if you disagree." This is the opposite of a productive conversation and will only make things worse in the end. If you truly believe the 2nd amendment should be repealed, there is a process for that. That process is not a state governor deciding to unilaterally repeal it. It is up to the people to decide. As for your argument about parents of children who have been killed by assault weapons, I would ask a different question. Many more people are killed in automobile accidents. Why is there no call to ban cars? At least in big cities, where there is public transportation and a car is a privilege, not a necessity.

It may not be a cure but it could possibly put a dent in mass shootings with mentally ill people. My idea is for any new gun owner specifically first time ones should also require a psychological evaluation under the federal background check. Include it with the requirements

This protest was a trap...and all these people walked into it. This was the entire purpose of the governor's unconstitutional edict. Not necessarily for once. The Sheriffs in multiple states on multiple occasions have stood by the constitution on 2nd Amendment issues and they have proudly proclaimed that on camera that they will not enforce unconstitutional edicts.

This is not a law that bans firearms. It's a 30 day public health emergency order issued by the governor of a state. It applies to counties averaging 1,000 or more violent crimes per 100,000 residents per year since 2021, a level currently met only by Bernalillo County. Maybe if your "hero" sheriff was better at his job his county wouldn't be the only one in the state with such a poor outcome. The governors 30 day carry ban is a response to recent shooting deaths of a thirteen-year-old girl on July 28, a five-year-old girl on August 14, and an eleven-year-old boy on September 6, as well as two mass shootings this year in Bernalillo County.

Last time I was in Alburquerque I saw the same things in all of the West coast cities. Homelessness, Mentally ill roaming around, Gang graffiti, Signs of fentanyl and discarded needles. It's kind of strange for the leadership to be making the pivot to restrict law abiding citizens rights while creating a breeding ground for violence and crime. Your health crisis is drug sales, Drug gangs and lack of responsibility to attend to mentally ill allowing them to wander sick and unstable on your streets. Shameful.
What is shameful is that instead of finding a way to help these people that are dealing with homelessness, addiction, mental health issues you decide to go down the hateful route and just be sure you can have a gun at your side so you feel big and strong. That is what is shameful.

Sherrifs are sworn to uphold the constitution. If the cited anyone, they are breaking their oath. It's important for communities to have sheriff's if they want to protect their 2nd amendment rights.

Why isn't the media highlighting the fact that the Governor is on record/tape commenting that she does not believe that her oath to the Constitution is absolute? She is telling the residents of NM that the Constitution is not applicable to her. No, I mean rule. By definition a rule is predicated on it's legality, and comes from lawful authority. In this case, it comes from standing on the United States Constitution. Rule promulgation must come under authority of statute and with legislative oversight. There is no power given to state or local authority to suspend any aspect of the United States Constitution. What this woman did was declare something, which means nothing.. You cannot make a rule that you have no authority to make. @Falcon-um7vo you can argue this point all you want. There is no mechanism in law which allows a governor of any state to suspend the United States Constitution. As such, if a governor were to do so, the action is unlawful. For a rule to meet the definition of such, it would have to have been passed under a statutory authority. There is no such authority under law. Again to my illustration- a person who steps outside of their executive duty is acting outside the color of law. It would be the exact same as what I said because the point being she does not have the authority do do that.

She should get a medal for doing something to protect these children from gun violence. And she should just tell the people i will ban these guns if more children are killed. The State Police know they since they lost qualified immunity a few years ago, that if they were to cite anyone, they would be liable for infringing on their civil rights. Which means the officers themselves would have to pay damages, not the state.
