I think I need this lol. One use for the key fob might be for someone who doesn't keep their gun on the night stand but has a closet in the bedroom near the bed. Hear something at night you can grab the key fob push the button and by the time you open the closet door the safes already open. Just a thought

Now that you did this almost 2 years ago, would you still recommend it? How often does the fingerprint scanner fail? Is someone doing it better?

I would think the remote was for quick access in a situation where your life depends on it.. like duct tape it to your side of your headboard or under your bed ...and you can just tap it quick access if you keep your safe close bye.

That's a really nice safe for keeping the kids or anyone else in your home away from your handguns. I paid $200 for a Bio safe I really like but it only holds like two guns however that price for the extra shelf and mag holder is to high.

Cool idea, sleek design... but personally I don't want to have to "plug my safe in" lol. Battery, fingerprint, digital keypad, Keyfob, phone app... that's a lot of electronics to rely on. That's alot of failure points.

The key fob is more intended to be a panic button. At one point Vaultek had an actual button you could stick on the back of a nightstand or somewhere but I’m not sure if they still sell it. The fob is the same thing, just a different form factor.

I got the Vaultek Pro VTI, I have my Full Size Walter P99 with a spare mag & My HK VP9 with a Viridian with a C5L Laser/Light Combo plus spare mag. It works flawlessly I paid $270 it was a refurbished unit. If you want cheap go to Harbor Freight & get cheap. If you love your family don't go CHEAP ROUTE. Vaultek is the way to go

If you have this on top of a night stand or somewhere, you could use double sided tape with the key fob somewhere hidden but easily accessible and then press it and go. Or even better, Velcro hook to the hidden spot and loop to the key fob so you can take it with you when you’re not at home in case someone looking around happens to find it. I like the fob they have for one of their other safes that has a mounting bracket that it slides into. Great idea for under the bed frame hidden button or behind the night stand. Faster than the key code or biometrics. Vaultek seems really great and I hope to save my nickels and dimes to get one here soon.

This is a super nice safe that’s definitely going to be my next purchase! Nice review! I guess one “con” that you can say, which is something I noticed from the video, is that when the door unlocks it doesn’t drop down automatically and then hits a “stopper” to slow it down before it’s fully open so it doesn’t slam (like DeanSafe). It seems like when you unlock the safe, you have to push the door down to open. I know it’s not a huge “con” but hey it might be to someone. Just something I noticed/my 2 cents but definitely doesn’t effect my decision on this being my new safe lol

I actually like the key fob. It would he more handy than trying to type in your password, find the app,open the app, etc. When in danger seconds could make a life difference.

I just got a Fort Knox pistol safe. I can put a revolver in it. Come back in 30 years and open it. And I'm ready to rock and roll.

Can you bolt to the floor or something that can’t move and is the electrical circuit protect from stuff like usb killers. Like someone cooks the circuits on the out side will the alarm and key pad still work? Or will the safe lock up or unlock for good? Or do you just have no usb power input. I hope it’s kills just the usb or it resets and not wipe the memory. And can a powerful magnetic bypass all of the technology I seen it happen before with some tech safe but not mechanical safes.

I don’t have a safe (cause I can’t buy handguns, but can get a pistol purchase permit or build them?? Being 19 is weird I can enlist and buy an AR but can’t buy a handgun, carry, or buy beer.) But I looked up the price for this and was blown away. I was expecting something like 2-3 grand.

I just wish they made one just big enough for a bullpup.

Great Video! I Think $600.00 all in is steep. Does not seem very secure. I imagine it was designed to provide a “level” of security to maybe keep kids out, but if that safe was found in your house it is small and light enough for someone to grab an go.

can this be mounted down to something sturdy? the alarm wont help unless i'm actually around.

does the alarm feature pop up on your phone as well? let's say if you weren't home for instance and the safe was bumped/moved

Hey hot rod, nice little pistol safe. I'm a one pistol dude (Gen 5 Glock 19). So it would be kool to have, but not necessarily needed. The 19 is on me most of the time, untill i go to sleep then it's in the night stand. Just me living here, I'm 60 and have no children.

great review. can i assume that the safe can be bolted down? there was no mention of it and from watching you, it didn't appear to be too heavy which means that a thief can easily short-circuit the safe on-site by dumping it in a sink or tub (as mentioned elsewhere in the comments) and then just as easily haul it off-site to open it at their leisure. as a side-note, you mentioned that you are planning to get a liberty safe. am i remembering correctly that a while back you did a video where you chose the safe in the background over the liberty since you could assemble it on site which would allow you to break it down and freely move it if necessary, whereas the pre-built liberty would require special equipment and possibly a few guys to help you move it. did the benefit of having a safe that you can break-down/self-assemble (forgot the namebrand) prove to be not as good as the pre-built liberty?

That thing is damn expensive! I'm only worried about keeping my kid out of my guns too. I live way in the sticks. If someone robs me they will know what they are looking for. A handgun lockbox on the nightstand and a gun cabinet is good enough for me. If my house burns down or someone robs me and i loose my guns, i have homeowners insurance and after all they are just guns. I can buy and build more. The electronic safes turn me off, not guaranteed to work when needed.

So what about mounting

The M&p 2.0 factory threaded version has like a 4.6” barrel, will that have a gap if I pick that one? Just don’t want to waste money when you can test for me, thanks love you haha

The fob is the fastest access to your weapons of all methods available. Having the fob in a place where you can just tap it (like under the lip of your desk) in the case of emergency, the safe would be open and waiting for you by the time you got there.

remote is for emergency bro. You don't always have two minutes to unlock your phone to do that

Great video, thanks for helping me making the decision to buy... Here are my thoughts post purchase for anyone looking for more insight : I research purchases of this magnitude thoroughly. Eventually I decided to go for it and I’m happy I did, I compiled my thoughts below for those who may be on the fence or want more insight. Cliffnotes: Go for it, you’ll be happy you did. The build quality is out of the world amazing, every bit what you would expect after spending this kind of money. Vaultek was quick and friendly when I sent them an inquiry prior to purchasing. The ease of access using the various input methods is spot on and most importantly I enjoy accessing this safe. I keep all of my go to EDC gear in the safe which includes a couple of pistols, magazines, holsters, several knives, flashlights and pens. Now in one place I have all of my gear for daily use, secured but easily accessible in my closet rather than having to go down stairs and open the large conventional safe. Everything about this safe seems so well thought out from the pistol racks, the magazine holders, to the drawer. You could fit the 10 pistols Vaultek advertises in this safe or you could mold it specifically hold your EDC in a well-organized and downright sexy way. I’d be lying if I didn’t admit using this thing gives you a James Bond’ish feel as you get ready for the day. To address a couple of common critiques I ran across when researching this major purchase: No this does not replace a conventional large safe. In my case it works along aside it, making gearing up in the morning easier and giving me peace of mind when I’m away. I never have to worry about my kids, babysitters, people working on the house coming in contact with my sensitive items because this is secure and most importantly hidden. Large conventional safes are typically not hidden and will be the focus of any burglar. Whether you buy this safe or another you should be very careful to used layered security throughout your and decentralize your valuables. Having one large safe is great, but cramming everything of importance to you in that safe is a mistake. EVERY SAFE CAN BE BROKEN INTO! Having a couple smaller safes in addition to the Big Bertha downstairs is more convenient and more secure. My Vaultek MX is bolted to the wall and hidden from plain sight. It could be broken into eventually but the burglar would have to find it, while the home alarm is going off, set off the tamper alarm on the safe off, and pry it open or rip it off the stud in the wall somehow… Highly doubtful… I also don’t view this as a quick access safe. Though it opens fast and can be kept where convenient to access easily, I don’t use it as my bump in the night quick access safe. I don’t like the thought of leaving another gun(s) accessible or having to remember to close the safe after rolling out of bed to investigate a bump. You could cram this safe into that role and it would function, but if you are dropping this kind of coin on a pistol safe, you’d be better suited to eventually purchase something of equal design and forethought for that specific use… like the Vaultek Slider Series. Overall I couldn’t be more happy with my purchase and I look forward to exploring more of Vaultek’s line up. In my mind you either don’t want this safe because it doesn’t fit your preferences (so you aren’t reading this) or you are on the fence about price like I was… which I eventually realized was ridiculous because one of firearms or knives that I store inside the safe costs more than safe itself. Pony up the cash and you won’t regret it… I’m already stacking pennies for the Slider Series.
