Daniel shows you how to make a special variation of Tteokbokki. It's the original style that was served to the king ... way back in the Joseon Dynasty period. Back then, they didn't utilize gochujang to make these rice cakes. Instead, it was more like a savory stir-fry. If you don't handle heat well... this non spicy tteokbokki recipe is perfect for you :)

I agree with you on the turkey. I was never a fan growing up. My parents always cooked smoked ham on Thanksgiving. I can count how many times they added a turkey to our Thanksgiving dinners. This Thanksgiving we had jerk pork. My husband is from Jamaica so we decided to do something a little different this year.

Oh nice!! Do you use this small thin tteok or do use the fatter ones?
@iambearhands
@iambearhands 5 лет назад
@@FutureNeighbor Sorry, I didn't see this till now. I didn't get notified you responded for some reason... Size of the tteokbokki I use honestly depends on what's available fresh at the market when I go, I find the smaller ones are easier to toss about in the pan but the fatter ones are so delightful to chew! I've made a version of this with chicken and extra mushrooms before too! ...I have an ~extra special~ tteokbokki I invented as well. Can you say tuna melt tteokbokki in a spicy butternut squash base? I know you can! :) ...your uploads have a very fond place in my happy place, nothing is more lovely than seeing other home cooks do what they do.

Lol I guess I was born 100 years old cause I could never take spice haha 😂 You are a lifesaver for posting this recipe. I have a bag of tteok in the fridge that I don't know what to do with cause all I know is the spicy version. Imma definitely try this mild version with shiitake mushrooms. I have sesame oil as well. Perfect 😀 Thanks Dan! Happy thanksgiving.

Lol about the turkey 😂 Idk what it is, but it seems like most immigrant families don't care for turkey at Thanksgiving. They'll make it just to have it, but no one really cares for it :p I enjoy my turkey...but like on the first dinner, and with plenty of gravy and potatoes. Dealing with leftovers is just dry and downhill haha

Dan-yul, regarding turkey: you know, it used to be absolutely delicious. But, like most animals here in the USA, they've been bred to make them lower in fat, and bigger breast. The result is tasteless, boring poultry and pork, sadly. Food used to taste good here. Not anymore. Fruit and veg look perfect, and have zero flavor, and virtually no nutrition. Ugh..
