Gunny Was buried today Friday Jan. 18 2019 at Arlington National Cemetery Gunny R. Lee Ermey's Service in Palmdale Ca. on April the 24th a little after 3 P.M. Gunny's wife releasing a dove.
I can just picture him critiquing his own funeral: “Jesus H. Christ! What kind of Mickey Mouse horseshit is this? Carry that casket like you got a pair!” RIP Gunny
I can only imagine him drilling the archangels up there. "SHUT YOUR DAMN MOUTH, GABRIEL!!! YOU WANNA LEARN HOW TO KILL FALLEN ANGELS?! GET DOWN ON YOUR FACE AND GIVE ME 25!!!" There is no escaping that joke. I am not sorry.
"But always remember this: Marines die. That's what we're here for. But the Marine Corps lives forever, and that means you live forever." R. Lee Ermey. Semper Fi
Bobby Cars. Hello. Semper Fi and Oohra. USMC 1965 -- 69. The Marine Corps was here long before we were ever thought of and will be here long after we are gone. 3Rd Battalion Parris Island Summer 1965. You talk about Hell on Earth. The land that God forgot. Carry on Gunny. R.I.P.
I had the pleasure of visiting Gunny's grave in Arlington Cemetery in July. I took one knee to the ground and removed my cover and said a prayer for the Gunny as my respect for his contribution to the entertainment world. May you rest in peace Gunny.
Good bye, Gunny. 🍻 🇺🇸 "It's foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather we should thank God such men lived." - George S. Patton When he gets to heaven to Saint Peter he will tell, "Another soildier reporting sir I've served my time in hell." - Unknown
Did the Gunny get permission to pass away? Because Marines are not allowed to die without permission!! Rest easy Gunny, we’ll take the watch from here.
I don't even know why I'm about to cry when I didn't even meet the man..I guess I just can't believe it. I've grown up loving all of his movies including full metal jacket, boys in company c, saving Silverman etc and his shows, Lock an load, mail call, and even his voice overs in movies. Most of all his service to the country is something we can't forget. Semper fi and Rest In Peace Gunny you will be missed... 😞😔
You are about to cry because you have a heart. He has a great one. It is ok to love him,, America and the USMC. Matter of fact, It makes you one of us in spirit. Semper Fi.
An English poet, John Donne, put what you are feeling into words long ago, "No man is an island unto himself, no man stands alone. Therefore, ask not for whom the bell tolls, it tolls for thee." We are all diminished by Gunny's passing.
AlexModeling He is sitting at the lords table now where there is no suffering or death. R. Lee Emery for you were a true leatherneck (Nickname for Marines) and will continue to be one ‘till the end of time. When People say he died I say “he hasn’t died he’s defending heaven now in death as he did in life.”
Many told me that Gunny received too much praise, that he was just another veteran that got lucky in Hollywood. But I know that this "just an actor" that I saw when I was just a kid, is the one that inspired me to join the military- and is the one that helped me to get through it. Gunny didn't get enough praise.
If memory serves, he left the Corps as an E-6. However, due to his service in promoting the Marines and establishing good-will, he was promoted to Gunnery Sgt (E7) after retirement - the first such Marine to ever receive a post-retirement promotion. From an Army vet - RIP.
Sergeant Ermey's body may have perished but his mission has not. The attitude of fortitude, honor and determination will endure in the lives of all those who seek to maintain true freedom, True pursuit of our goals and happiness,.... honor,.....integrity...fulfillment.....Peace. These are the basic things we all crave as part of being human. Warriors sue for peace. Strange but True,......and.... .. You know He is still fighting...kickin' ass and taking names! OoRah!! Thank you Sir.
You are now in a world of shit ....because Marines are not allowed to die without permission! RIP Gunny you will be missed by this FMF corpsman. ..semper fi
"Gunny" was a man's man, a Marine's Marine, and one of the last who wasn't afraid to let the world know what he was. Never met him but I'm going to miss him, not because of his movies but because of what he was. I was hoping this would get some TV time but I guess not since he didn't fit in with the soft Hollywood crowd, but he did more to promote our Military and our country than anyone in the last 50 years. We won't see another like him. R.I.P Sir, and thank you for your service.
Slugg0matic Good men who will tell ya like it is are a rare breed. I'm glad my grandpa and grandma raised me. they told me always speak up when I feel it's right and for a good cause. we need more honesty in this world less cruel people. Gunny knew that too. men like him and Col. Jeff Cooper are what men are made of.
Thank you for all you did for this country from your service in Viet Nam to your great movies and TV shows. You were a great man and will be missed by many. RIP Gunny.
Thank you for capturing this video because I don't think I've seen one except snippet of what our family was able to capture as well as still photos. Today he would have been 79yrs old. I was one of his niece, albeit his favorite one. I lead in putting this event together in a very short time. RIP Uncle Lee!
You are more then welcome. It was a windy day back then, I wish I knew how to get that sound out and clean up the video. Your uncle is greatly missed by everyone. I never met him but had to say goodbye. I drove in from Pomona that day. God bless
Actually I think the best was a meme with him and Barbra Bush that he was there at the Pearly Gates to escort the First Lady through to the other side.
hillbillywine101 A Marine,A Godly Christian&Strongly Supported our most important Admendment 2nd ,A son,A Dad&a granddad ,,Rip well R.Lee Emery,GOD SPEED ON YOUR SPIRITUAL IMMORTAL PATH AT THIS CROSSROAD OF LIFE AS WE KNOW IT God Speed.
Thank you for filming this for posterity. The Gunny was the ONLY Marine to be promoted AFTER he left the Corps. Thank you for your service to our country both in the Marines and as a member of SAG... and he is the ONLY member of SAG I can say that about. You were a hell of a Marine and an individual. Semper Fi Gunny, Carry On...
I used to love the bagpipes. But after 25 years of service as a firefighter, going to multiple services for the Armed Forces, Police, Fire and EMS, I just can't hear them the same anymore. Thank You for your service and your ability to entertain.
*salutes* Farewell, Sergeant R Lee Ermey. You've made such a great impact on this nation, and not only have you entertained us (Full Metal Jacket, SpongeBob, etc) but you've also served our country. We'll never forget you. Semper Fi, Gunny..
2Xcitizen= that is correct, his paperwork was forwarded after his service. Meaning his promotion was forthcoming (in the works) ie ..it was due to come
To the people who disliked this video I am sorry you failed to see the life of a great man, and to treat his passing with equal respect. Gunny R. Lee Ermey, I salute and respect the service you have provided for your country. You presence and words will be missed. Semper Fi
Thanks for allowing us in. "The Doves carry the spirit to the heavens .They take away the earthly pain." We cherish too , the poppy red That grows on fields where valor led, It seems to signal to the skies That blood of heros never dies Moina Michael (1915 )
Gunny stood and faced God, Which must always come to pass. He hoped his shoes were shining, Just as brightly as his brass. "Step forward now, you soldier, How shall I deal with you? Have you always turned the other cheek? To My Church have you been true?" Gunny squared his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't. Because those of us who carry guns, Can't always be a saint. I've had to work most Sundays, And at times my talk was tough. And sometimes I've been violent, Because the world is awfully rough. But, I never took a penny, That wasn't mine to keep... Though I worked a lot of overtime, When the bills got just too steep. And I never passed a cry for help, Though at times I shook with fear. And sometimes, God, forgive me, I've wept unmanly tears. I know I don't deserve a place, Among the people here. They never wanted me around, Except to calm their fears. If you've a place for me here, Lord, It needn't be so grand. I never expected or had too much, But if you don't, I'll understand." There was a silence all around the throne, Where the saints had often trod. As Gunny waited quietly, For the judgment of his God. "Step forward now, Gunny, You've borne your burdens well. Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets, You've done your time in Hell." -original author unknown RIP Gunny.
Hell is not a place I would want anyone to go to. Ain't no picnic that's for sure. Let's hope he was saved and God forgave him for taking his name in vain so many times.
Thank you @rileydawg2013 my brother. My father was an Army Drill Sergeant and when I read propaganda like that which makes it sounds like the Marines are brave while soldiers are cowards really pisses me off big time. Thanks man. My father looking down from heaven I know is proud of you and me both. HOOAH!!!!!
R.I.P. Gunny now your guardian the gates of Heaven with your fellow Marines, my cousin Lance Corporal Juan R Rodriguez Velasco USMC look up to u before he died in Iraq and now he is resting by your side 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I had the pleasure of meeting Gunny on a couple of occasions. He was the real deal. What you seen on the screen was what he was in real life. RIP Gunny, Semper Fi
I got to meet him years ago at a World of Wheels show in Chicago. I waited about 3 1/2 hours in line that day, and he was gracious enough to have my picture taken with him, even though he was just getting ready to leave and a lot of fans were rushing the platform for his autograph. That wait was worth every minute. RIP, Gunny.
Met him several time at car shows n expos... all I can say he was the sweetest men alive and always had a smile on his face. Very polite and was always dedicated to inspire young generations to love this country and other. I'm gonna miss him dearly
With a man like this it's hard to say something that hasn't been said already. Few people have such an impact like R. Lee Ermey had, he had done so much in such little time. A Marine at heart, with the soul of a legend. It saddens me that I never got the opportunity to meet him in person, but when my time is up and my bones have crumpled up and faded into the dust of the wind, maybe, just maybe, I'll be able to shake his hand in a better place. May peace not be far from where your soul rests among the stars.
Even though I wanted to meet him SO badly, and even though I’m not there to attend. I still feel Honored to see this video. Thank you for posting this.
I will never forget this man! My parents let me watch Full Metal Jacket at a young age, and to say the least, it made a big impression on me. I loved repeating the Drill Sgt. lines. You will always be legendary in my eyes, Mr. Ermey!
Thanks for making us laugh and enjoy watching you yell at us. Thank you for your service, Marine! "It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather we should thank God that such men lived." George S. Patton
RIP. Thank you for your service and for the education you gave on your shows mail call and lock and load. Heaven is a much better place now with you in it
RIP. You made an impression on everyone in service, in entertainment, and in knowledge. You did lots of people well with your capabilities. All with honor, loyalty, and a hell of a sense of humor.
I'm not sure if it's appropriate to film a funeral; however, I appreciate the opportunity to view this fine service. RIP Gunney. My condolences to Mrs. Ermey and family. Thanks for the upload Charles C.
Gunny was the nicest civilian you could ever meet ! A Marine you could depend on ! Always joking about life from sun up to sun down ! Being famous did,nt mean much to Gunny ! Helping the USA Military ,children,s charities ,friends & family was the True Gunny ! God - Honor - Glory Well Done Sgt Gunny R. Lee Ermey Mail call RIP 1944 to 2018.
It was an honor to meet you in person Gunney and to be able to talk to you candidly and to be able to share stories, learn about different weapons, and the tales of war, the good and the bad. I had asked you how do you want to be remembered once you leave this planet and your words have never been true, " To leave as a Marine, in uniform just as I was baptized as a Marine to grow into." You will be laid to rest with other heroes of American Wars and be welcomed into the elite field of Granite White. Semper Fi, My friend. Will see you in the New System. Major J.R. Thakker, USMC, Ret.
Johnny t - Yeah, getting in Heaven's front door just got harder unless you've done your time having a man on a mission screaming in your ear while you're at attention. I don't see it as us loosing a good man as much as Heaven just called for reinforcements. RIP Gunny!
Thank you for your service Gunny and semper Fi. You inspired many men and women to serve our country, I remember as a kid watching your films and thinking man being in the military would be awesome. You will never be forgotten. Give em hell up there devil dog.
There is a new company Gunny in heaven. This guy’s performance in FMJ is definitely one of the reasons I joined our beloved Corps. RIP Gunny you may be gone but your impact will live on forever. Rest Easy Noble Warrior. Semper Fi!
Lots of people get remembered for the acting roles they played. R Lee Ermey is remembered not just for the roles he played but for who he was. God bless.
RIP Marine. You not only served your country....but showed us what a TRUE Marine Drill Sargent talked like! Well....except for the kids shows.....but they got the point! Now God needs you to drill the angels of heaven! Give them Hell!
I also never met him personally but feel a sense of loss at his passing. He had a demeanor and presence that was commanding and infrequently encountered in today's world. A true patriot is gone from our midst and will be long remembered. Rest in Peace Gunny.
Why does this have any dislikes and why 82? There should be 0 dislikes on this video. If you don't respect a good Marine getting put to rest then don't like it and don't dislike it.
It's not because of the man or the service. It's those damn bag pipes! Right up there as the most annoying instruments of all time next to the kazoo and the accordion!
God loves Marines, because we keep Heaven packed with fresh souls. Now the Gunny is up there, running God's Boot Camp. Semper Fi, Gunny, you will be missed. First time I saw Full Metal Jacket was just before graduation from boot camp at Paris Island, SC. I had never heard of R. Lee Emery before then, but I loved his character.
This great man. This warrior. This man that gave us so much. Lies with his friends, his comrades, his forebears and his Presidents, in that beautiful peaceful garden of remembrance that is Arlington. He is amongst a mighty cohort and rightly so. He has earned his Country’s thanks and those of the wider world who through his work came to better understand the Marine Corps. As an Englishman, Gunny R. Lee Ermey was not of mine own, and I’m inclined to think he would have told me as much. But the next time I visit Arlington, I will stand before his place and tell him how grateful I am and how thankful I am and how sad I am that the world has lost such a man.
R.I.P. Gunny. Semper Fi and Oohra. USMC 65 -- 69. Boot Camp, 3Rd Battalion Parris Island SC Summer of 65. Now he is with the Marine Detachment guarding the Pearly Gates. God Bless.
