Many years ago I was stationed at Gunter Air Force Base. Then it was a base for medics. I learned to be an X-Ray Tech and medic and then I went to Andrews. Vietnam era. Thank you for your service. My brother is a Vietnam Navy vet (3 tours). My dad was a WWII Navy corpsman.
I told you this was our favorite place! We have been there 3 times now and go out of our way to find a reason to pass by and stay again. Lots of history in the area including Selma as well as Montgomery. I love the videos, keep them coming.
Yes you did and I can totally see why! Hopefully, when the word gets out we can still get reservations! lol We cant wait to get back and check out more of the local history.
My husband and I are at Gunter Hill right now! And you are right, it is amazing. We live south of Birmingham so it is only an hour or so away but was perfect for our first outing in our 21' Rockford travel trailer. Beautiful grounds, lots of trees, and on the Alabama River. We went into Montgomery last night for a Marty Stuart concert. This was so much more fun (and lots cheaper) than staying at a hotel like we have done before for shows at the Montgomery Performing Arts Center . I love your videos and look forward to seeing where the road takes you next.
What an incredible drive into that place. Man the woods were beautiful. Thanks for taking us along on your travels today. Some of us may never make it on the road so we really appreciate what y’all do. Cheers!!!
I love history and I think it is important for our future! We must never repeat our ugly and teaching others about it is the only way that will happen. People need to FEEL it and let it become a part of their soul. I'll never be a preacher on our platform but I am hoping to encourage people to go see those places that might change their perspective of others.
In my career, I had the honor of meeting Rosa Parks twice. My take away from those experiences: Ms. Parks was a very humble and soft spoken woman. She held the sweetness of spirit within her soul. I did not see someone affected by notoriety or act in such a way. She was a quiet, humble soul. This how I remember her.
All I can say is you two are crazy!!! (In a good way😊) I hope that one day I can just walk up to you two and say “Hey Stacey and Phil was new” I’ll have to put that on my bucket list😄😄 Love you guys....be safe!!!!
We LOVE COE parks, use them as much as possible. There are 3 in East tx on Lake of the Pines that are wonderful. Lots of history in the area 1 hr west of Shreveport, la. Lots more in Texas also most close to historical areas. This is a pines forest area so really beautiful.
I've been a lifetime purger, hero. My mom/family used to hate when I was a kid. Y'all just motivated my wanderlust and the only thing stopping me is me. I best get started or I'll be sitting here next year missing out on what I want to do. PEACE
Based totally on your video, we decided to pack up the RV and try Gunter Hill. As I type this we are parked in lot 14. The park is everything you stated plus more. The Rangers at check-in told us this place isn’t normally crowded. Thank you for the recommendation.
LOL.....Phil looking into our lives and seeing that we need to purge!!!! Still chuckling!!! ........ Thanks ..... Enjoy your channel a lot...... You give the gift of laughter and we can all use more of that!!! BLESSINGS to you both!! :-)
Thanks for all the great info. I’ve are in the process as we speak of purging. House sold , purchased our Class A and plan to hit the road my May 20th. Hope to see y’all out on the road. 👏👏🎉🎉
We saw this video 4 years ago and have been to Gunter Hill 3 times and will be there again at the end of our 4 month trip from Florida to California and Glacier NP and back. It is the best! Thank you ! Richard and Virginia. . YoloRvAdventure on RU-vid!
Glad you found it! Also about the pass if your 62 you can get the pass for $80 and get the same discount of half off. $10 a night! Also if your ever in the area of Gadsden Alabama visit Naccalula falls there r videos on utube check it out!
Forgot to add we met you in 2019 Hershey RV show when we were searching for our RV November 2021 we became Full-Time RVers Thanks for the inspiration 😄
I also want to thank you Mike for all of the great videos that you do. I am a first timer me and my wife just bought our first RV 2 weeks ago and been trying to get everything ready. Wow what a job. You have taught us so much about RVing and I thing we are ready to hit the road on our first trip. I hope we run into you guys somewhere on the road one day it would be an honor to meet you. We are from NW. GA. Hope to see ya one day Be Safe Be Blessed :)
Lordy, if I was in US I would definitely stay there. I don’t know of anywhere so well laid out in Oz. 5th wheelers are still pretty rare here so not a lot of places cater for them. Here is Oz I’d say 90% of full time vanners (travel trailers) are max 26 ft in length including A frame. A rig like your would stop traffic here. Me? A Weekender only a16ft “classic” fully stripped and renovated. Love it. Enjoying your channel. Love from Melbourne, Australia.
And YES, I've had my house purged since Sept 2018, house on the is in process, closing sale by May 15 or sooner, crossing fingers. Flying to Mississippi to pick up my 5th wheel and the guy is selling me his truck too! I will be on my way full time soooooonnn!! So Stoked!!! Hope to meet up with you two sometime. Love your videos!!
You were talking to us about purging. I felt like you were really looking into my home. Lol!! My husband and I are wanting to full time RV in about 4 yrs and the reason is we are in a yr of a 5 yr bankruptcy. We have a used camper that we bought 2 yrs ago and are taking it my dads land in Ky, I just found him 2 yrs ago. We have to get us a truck before we can get a camper to work on getting our credit built back up. We love watching you two. You have very interesting pointers for wanting to go full time. Would love to meet up if you are still Rving in 5 yrs. Safe travels!!!
We love our senior pass for the parks. We hope to get even more use, when we start RVing. Glad your enjoying yourselves. As always take care and be safe.
We were at that campground , same space 2 years ago . Too funny noticed right at the beginning of your video. So nice to see your photos, we also went to the Rosa parks museum it was done so well, it brought us to tears. Safe travels!
Hello fellow retired GIs, LE, and RED Owner, April, last year, on the way back from Red Bay, we ended up in Montgomery, Maxwell AFB, had to kill five days. It was on the fly, and one of our more enjoyable five days to burn, lots of history there. We did Selma, Edmund Pettus Bridge, Rosa Parks, Capitol, Civil Rights Museum, MLK Memorial Chapel, and a must Chris' Hot Dogs. Keep up the good videos, i have a coin for you, if our paths cross. No FB, no IG. Todd
"I noticed you haven't started purging yet". Hahahahaha!!! Oh dear how could you see??? I love it. It's on my list and our first garage sale is June 1.
Heyyyyyyyy We watched this video last week We said let’s try it We love it When we watched the video again today we saw the drone footage and we were like Wait a minute we think we got the same site #33😄
We are about halfway through the funnel on the purge thing. Nice campground; thanks for the tip. Thanks to US for sharing the Annual pass with us Canadian snowbirds; wish we could qualify for senior or military.
We stayed at Gunter Hill in 2000 and it is a beautiful park. I can see that there have been upgrades since then. We were living full time in a little Class C with our 12 yr old son. Part of our home-school curriculum was a unit study on the civil rights movement. I don't remember seeing a Rosa Parks museum, but maybe it was not built at that time. We did visit a number of other significant sites in the movement. We are full time now in our fifth wheel, but I did get a laugh out of the "purge" comment. My advice to all: Just do it!
Have I seen drone video from you before? Great footage and you operate like you have been in the “Air Force” forever😉 Looks like a great place, but since it is 3 hrs from home, we always make our way back home from trips. I still can’t believe you skipped the beaches of the panhandle, but I know you are trying to go visit your son!
We have had drone footage sprinkled throughout our videos. It has been hard because it is not allowed a lot of places! We also had it in our video from last week as an opener. We will include it as much as possible.
Enjoyed meeting and talking w/you at the Planet Fitness in Prattville. Thank you for the tips for myself and my wife for our trip out West this spring and summer. Hope to see you on the road sometime or if we can make contact, we'll give you a tour or tell you where to go to find a lot of history in the area.
Just saw this 2 yrs later, but going to Gunter Hill next week to see our grandson who's stationed there. We LOVE COE parks. Have you ever stayed at the Airport COE outside Waco TX? Beautiful view of Waco across the water at night and gorgeous sunsets.
If y'all come to Tiffin for service you must stay at COE campground at Piney Grove in New Site, Ms. It is our favorite place. We have met several Tiffin owners there. We would also love to meet you guys. Cindi and David
Thank you so much for the recommendation. I evacuated Florida and came to Maxwell AFB but they could only reserve my slot until Sunday. With a Hurricane, I was looking for another spot and found you guys. I appreciate it! I did see the Rosa Parks Museum driving in. Thumbs up!
So funny!!! We just watched this video and it was like you were talking directly to us about purging! We took a break from moving into our fifth wheel to watch this! Video! We are moving out of our Sticks and bricks this weekend and are a month away from pulling out!! We are so excited and exhausted. Sure do enjoy your videos and really look forward to meeting you soon.
We literally just booked our spot at Gunter Hill for October. Once we finished, we sat back and noticed you had a new video out so decided to watch it. So weird it was about Gunter Hill Campground. haha
Great video you guys! We Love Love Love our Planet Fitness Membership. They are always in big cities so it can be hard to fin them sometimes, but Thomas and I have gotten really good at planning our stays around the gym. He's lost 30lbs and several inches. We are cracking down in May and June food wise. Gotta get them beach bodies ready 😂😂😂😂😂🏋️♂️🏋️♀️ ~Stacy~
Thanks Stacy and please congratulate Thomas for us. We know how hard it is to drop the lbs although it is so easy to pick them up!! Food is killing us right now too! Every time we meet up with family our diet is out the window.
Our favorite is Corp parks as well, Come to Arkansas we have lots of great Corp parks. Have to add this one to bucket list. Spent quality time at Maxwell AFB for Leadership schools and plan to visit the base so that park will work great. Thanks for sharing. Bloopers are so Awesome! Safe travels.
I started laughing because I am purging right now ... too funny ... house went on the market today... hope to see you on the road in the next 6 months ... love your channel!
COE campgrounds are some of the best kept secrets, but we kind of like that. They can have magnificent views and wildlife but not all are close to a major city. we have a seniors pass so they are really cheap as well.
Regarding your upcoming birthday challenge request. 1. In Daytona, they have the Dale Earnhardt racing experience where they teach you to drive like a NASCAR driver then they put you in a actual NASCAR race car where you can drive it or sit next to a driver as you ride around the Daytona race track at 80-120 mph. 2- In Riverhead NY. There is the Long Island aquarium, where the staff puts you in a steel cage and puts you into a tank full of sharks. Just 2 suggestions. Happy birthday Jennifer Aniston.
I just looked up the aquarium! That looks like fun! I was looking at doing it in FL but this looks easier and just as fun. It might win! Thanks for sharing!
Definitely gonna subscribe. Montgomery is my hometown and I don't think I have ever been there. Great practical information. Thanks for sharing and hope you guys continue to travel, have fun, be safe and inspire others!
Great video! Thanks for the tip on Gunter Hill COE campground. Somehow, I had missed that one. We love COE campground. If you are headed NE, stop into Desoto SP in Ft Payne, AL. It's on top of the mountain and one of our favorite stops. FHU, cable, and WiFi. Have a great trip to Va Beach.
We love the army Corp campgrounds. You should check out Raystown Lake. Not as big but the lake is awesome. This was the last camping weekend until spring. 28 mile lake.
THANKS for sharing!! There aren't many photos available on the website for this campground. Which site were you guys in? Trying to make reservations for an upcoming trip. Thanks so much! Great blog post too that accompanies this video! Full of awesome details!
It's strange to hear you talk about Rosa Parks, et al. I lived at Maxwell AFB during that tumultuous time. My dad was stationed at Maxwell and I was in high school. I will never forget the Bay of Pigs. Scarey.
The purge started last year, but you're right...there's still LOTS to purge! LOL But my garage is so full waiting for warmer weather to start having yard sales!
What a beautiful spot! Those COE shower rooms though--looks like no divider/shower curtain to keep your fresh clothes and towels from getting sprayed from the shower--all one big open area. Maybe there was, and it just didn't show in the quick look-see. But I have run across such a shower setup at a national park, and it really was impossible to keep my dry things dry!
We went here based on your recommendation and loved it. Only stayed one night. But we were disappointed with the front desk couple, he was trying to help us get moved to a pull through since we were only staying one night, we didn’t want to unhitch. He was helpful, she wasn’t very friendly. When we talked the loop, there were many pull throughs that would have worked for us for one night, we could tell because the incoming reservations were posted at the sites on the posts. We decided it wasn’t worth trying to get it changed, it was disappointing and unprofessional for her, probably the wife, work campers, to act that way. We saw a herd of cows walking around and a herd of deer. Very nice. It’s a great place, wish we had more time here. Plus we left our access pass at home, paid $26, full hookups. Still a good deal. Which loop do you prefer?
Sorry to hear you didn't have a great experience there. Unfortunately, there are those out there that have bad days and take it out on anyone. Take a pic of your access number so they next time you forget the card....you will have the number handy.
Thanks! Purging takes forever. I would start today and go slow. Just keep repeating spaces until you are done. I made a video on purging if you look in our early videos.
That's right, Phil. Check her out..lmbo, hilarious. Hey...When you lean into that camera and said," Purge!" I laughed so hard. I was half thru a pint of butter pecan. I'm like he's saying workout, eat right, and live my dream. Was Phil a PT instructor or what? Lol...thanks for sharing.
Dang, I thought I had the camera covered up on my computer but you saw right in at all my junk. Actually, I am proud to say that I managed to get a whole bag ready to donate today. Hopefully a little every day will get me there. Safe travels.
You both are so funny. It's funny I thought you could see us perging. Haha that's what we are doing we leave the end of june. We are living the norman life. ☺ great video.
