Can't believe all the negative comments. This guy is a phenom. What're you all deaf? Even if he doesn't play it with the exact nuance of Jake his version is just as good as any of Ozzy's guitarists. As great as Jake was do you guys actually think he played all of Randy's stuff note for note exact? Be realistic, no one can play exactly like some other dude.
warptek Gus is fn awesome, no doubt. But if you play a classic, I don’t mind it being played in a lower register, but you’d best be accurate on all the nuisances and hooks that make the riffs the song. Ya know man? I think he does a great job, a good interpretation. 90% wont know the diffs.
warptek Agree, the mother of invention is well , making it your own. If playing guitar was a contest of exactly matching the originator to the letter I would be using orchestra instruments and studying classical music. If that’s your goal, then bravo keep doing it, but if expanding your understanding of an instrument you should listen to the building of learning a song. Either way, it’s to enjoy a craft of self expression, not criticism of what is different from your point of view. Keep on chugging at it and using the masters music to get there. Enjoy the journey.
For those who hate this man, go and watch classic ozzy's riffs exclusive guitar magazine's video he play both versions. it's just he prefers his own style instead of copying whole thing. He do some small variations.
My little brother, RIP, loved that period from Ozzy. It makes me sad to hear that Ozzy doesn't really dig that stuff. I love those albums. And Jake. Props to Gus, of course.
Mam is this song have great guitar work in it. It's really impressive to listen to and watch how nuanced the guitar is. A real Master of the instrument Jake E Lee is.
Wow! So many people complaining "he's playing it wrong". In this video the only real difference is the F part Jake does by the main riff, and Gus plays it lower, BIG DEAL. It's the same descending notes but different string held as a chord, so it's actually an improvement. Anybody who doesn't understand that doesn't comprehend guitar. The whole point of the guitar is having the same note on several different strings for positional or tone choices. Many classical pieces also are arranged and played in a variety of ways. There's other things Jake does with this song that are redundant and irrelevant, like before the chorus Jake holding the F# bass with the chord changes... WhoopDeeDoo. I think it sounds better without it when hearing the guitar alone and most people listening could care less. Jake was doing a few "extra things" to show technicality trying to fill big shoes. The worst is live he can't hit the last note of the solo after the scale build up, which is kinda lame because then it takes 2 guitarists to play it right.
these people who bitch about the chords are fanboys they cant accept other styles of playing because they dont know how notes and chords works they are egos and they must show how great jake was jeah i like him too but dude i love when someone playing it good and give tribute dont be so angry man this world is full of cry babys..
That's exactly to a tee, what Jake is doing on this. Hats off Gus...A+ Jake E Lee is one of the most original & interesting guitar players of the last century. Saw him live Bark at the Moon tour Ft Myers FL...was awesome...
Nope. Jake plays it differently. Cool thing about this song... everyone plays it differently. You can take this song and make your own version of it. It will still sound like the song, but played in different ways. I have watched many players, including Jake himself, teach this song. They ALL show you different ways to do it. Which actually makes it very confusing if you are trying to learn it.
I guess sounds closer than Zakk, seen Jake teach it himself, his hand muscles are old now, & doesn't have the youth he once had. Ultimate Sin album is his peak, fuckin amazing guitar. He sounded like no one else but him. Like George Lynch, Alex Lifeson , Jimmy Page & John Sykes...original "sound"
I honestly don’t get the plethora of comments saying “oh it’s not how Jake plays it.” He’s not Jake, he’s his own man. He’s basically doing tribute work whenever he’s doing stuff with ozzy because he never got to write his own album for the man, of course there will be differences. What matters is that he’s playing it so close as to be respectful in his cover while being his own person and letting himself shine through in his own way, it’s quite amazing how close he can sound to the originals while still being creative. He’s not changing anything drastic, he’s just making subtle differences that stand out because he’s that good.
lou velandia "including Gus G"...whatever that means. This is ain't no cover band. Gus is (was) Ozzy's guitarist. The way he played it is the right way.
This is not WRONG: It is just a different fingering of the same notes. Not exactly how Jake played it, but sounds just as good and a LOT easier than the stretch from 10th to 5th. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EI9q0rh8RNM.htmlm6s You can be a copycat guitarist or you can add your own flare and own what you play - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-iiJTSNmoGCw.html Gus completely acknowledges that he plays it differently from Jake, so no, it is not wrong. Just the Gus G version.
I haven't read a bad comment of Gus but I didn't read all & if anyone does think he sucks then they must hate OZZY cause Ozzy knows how to pluck a great guitar player😊😁😎
Allow me to preface this by stating Gus is an outstanding guitarist period. He wouldn’t have played for Ozzy if he wasn’t. In regards to BATM, he is for the most part playing the main riff correctly, but those stabs at the very end are not the way Jake plays it. Jake was kind enough to do a brief tutorial on the main riff at a guitar clinic which is posted on RU-vid.
I've been attempting to learn the second half of the of the riff on F for a while. Thanks for the display. Awesome job. Not hating...I've seen Jake play it a different way.All the little changes in the song are usually lost by most.I wish that some new music would come out that's this good. All computers and bullshit. So grateful I was able to grow up with this. Rock and roll and guitar heroes forever.I LOVE Randy and Jake the best. Zakk was good....not even close though.Gus G. Is awesome.
yeah people are bashing this guy. I've been listening to Jake since the 80s and his rhythms are the most complex yet resonating. but I only care about how it sounds...this cat sounds great!
Insane. Love that ESP too! The galloping part is like impossible for me to do. Not sure why I can't get it down it's like no matter what I'm doing I just can't 😤🙃😭
Anyone of you who think he is better than him must see this-Gus G (Ozzy Osbourne / Firewind) - Guitare Xtreme #70- on you tube and then send your own tape to ozzy and replace him.Jake E Lee is my favourite guitar player but gus g can play too.
I saw it in Milwaukee on the same tour with Motley Crue. Feb, 84. I was working for the promoter, and was backstage from 6am when the crew started off loading the trucks.
Gus G has his own style and tone. Is as great as other people's? Maybe not. but that's the beauty in it. And besides, its a little bit different live than recorded (as is with every guitarist)
"then you do a little thing here on the d" :46 he's feelin it! It does sound stupid hearing youtubers say TAB out loud. Get that pull-off goin on your A string-and down pick on beat 4!
Most people are so full of crap. Every guitarist plays songs with their own style. It doesn't have to be exactly like the original. Randy Rhoads didn't play Black Sabbath tunes as originally recorded. I don't ever hear anyone complaining about that.
interesting... iv'e been playing that rif like you for decades. i know it's not how jake does it, but it sounds like the same thing without all the stretches...
I looked at the finger pickin. Its very similar to the song that ben dampleryersteindeen does on his debut cassette of “turn da kick bass to dirt”. Off the single track of “gretta poo poo”
Hello gus!!!! nice play!!! gus just one question please (if you read this) what is your branch strings. I mean, i use dimarzio and the 0,09-0,42. So, what about you? do you use a normal range or a mix one may be? I would like to experiment with the one you use....thank you so much gus!! i see you in Murcia!!!!
You know I wasn't sure about Gus g until I seen him with Chris Broderick on a video on hereand I'm a player myself and I'm a real stickler and there's things I still have to learn you know I'm not trying to act like I'm the guitar virtuosobut Garcia showed me a lot man and you know props props paid to the man he he's really a great guitarist I really like him and I also like Chris Broderick so you know great going man great going don't understand why you're not with Ozzy no more I haven't reallyher why the separation took place because Zach being back as I mean I hate to say it it's almost boring because it just sounds like the same thing I've been listening to for 30 yearsyou know Jake was a little different the key seemed over at Jake's playing a little bit Zacks a great guitarist but I liked him a lot better when he was branching out on his own not Black label society but you know just doing stuff with like Steve Vai and yngwie malmsteen and great players like that I said I think that was a much better gig for Zach in my opinion because I saw him smile I don't see him smile a lot around Ozzy
Gus" patented un-nessesary finger movement" while still achieving thorough results" gus is correct". Also is always on to something within efficentcy. Stellar sustain" as well.
Ya, A= 392Hz is D standard. If you look at it from a recalibration of what A is then playing stuff lower or higher is still right regardless of tuning. That's what most guitarists do that don't tune to A=440Hz anyways.
I know it’s not exactly like jake plays it. Every guitarist is going to put their own style in a song. I do like Gus’s way better than zakk. I think zakk is awesome but he has become a characture if himself
Gus could with ease play it as it was done on the record but gave it some new flavours instead. Jake E Lee who came up with it can't even play it today ;)
