Expanded the comp beyond Queensland and New South Wales will open it up to fresh talent. Meaning a bigger talent pool. Expanding into north Brisbane means that the talent pool is divided further not expanded.

Thats the whole point of a draft. The bottoms teams get to pick the best young talent, instead of 3 or 4 teams hoarding all the origin players

@@troystaunton254 ?? The talent pool is expanded with the dolphins joining the nrl as they will then affiliate themselves with junior clubs that none of the other Queensland clubs are connected with. Thus expanding the talent available for the NRL

They'll be a NSW or QCup team and get flogged.

All the players you listed have one thing in common, they play for storms.. Hugh's was average coming through QLD, paps was nothing special at tigers.. it's not really about the player, it's the club "Melbourne storms"

@@ethanriice8456 excuse me! Justin Olam was already on superstar status for the PNG Hunters. Storm only chased after his signature after he shredded the Fiji Bati team when he played for the Kumuls. Not everything is about the STORM DYNASTY CULTURE! Besides the Dolphins have a coach that can turn ordinary into elites. I mean wasn't he the one that coached THE WORST QUEENSLAND SIDE to a origin series win over a star studded NSW side!🙄 Wayne knows how to turn a team around and work with what he is got. He just needs the right scouts to pick true potentials so the Dolphins can actually say they built their empire from the ground up and not through buying talent or handouts.

@@redone6171 olam wasnt super star status. I'm from PNG and I've been following the hunters since day one.. there was many players above him on the hunters teams. Then he signs for Falcons a Melbourne storms feeder club and plays along grant paps tino curtis scott😂😂😂 that's the storm system for you.. if he stayed in the hunters, he would have never reached this level.. storms change players.. look at brenko lee, average player, plays for storms makes the QLD side. Something in the water . Wayne Bennett can only couch star studded teams. He wont be able to build

Do they announce (AFL and NRL) how much money they put into the local juniors and pathways for the local talent? Be pretty interesting how much they actually give out yearly.

I have to agree with Rob on both those , Gus can be a chocolate moose & the AFL are year's ahead of the NRL , they only need a team in the NT & TAS and they'll have team in every national city in the country !!

Yep. Was horrified when my son came home from school with a Auskick pack. He left footy for AFL the next season. The way they run the juniors is very impressive, they take no rubbish either carry on like a goose and you are facing a life ban.

@@kers225abk2 Yeah the AFL expands clubs expecting to lose money. GWS run at a loss for many many years and the AFL was more then happy to let them spend and grow with marketing, juniors etc. Now GWS is established and competitive... the NRL expects profit from year one

when the broncos started there was no salary cap though that came several years after.

If you remember they had the Western Reds in Perth and Rams in Adelaide. Both lasted 5 minutes.They cant even get good crowds in Sydney

@@leonmoreton9463 those teams were folded because part of the reconciliation between arl and super league was getting the comp down to 12 teams from the 22 that were spread among arl and super league. The reds were actually quite a popular team and so was the rams. They were folded for political not financial reasons.

I mean 9 teams in Sydney and 1 in Brisbane is stupid and has been stupid for a long time. A second Brisbane team is a sensible move, and an 18th team now has to happen because 17 teams makes no sense at all. The schedule is going to be ridiculous, with a bye every single week. The second expansion team should go somewhere like you've suggested. I think Perth would be the best option. There's plenty of expat QLD and NSW people living over there with mining gigs, and WA locals enjoy sport and will get behind a team.

Yeah Gus is a flop but you are wrong. The bulk of his plan at Penrith was developing their juniors. Which turned into the great group they have now. So it worked

LOL what a stupid thing to say. how do you think the panthers got there. they had Gus to pull the club along and make hard descions and move the club in the right dirrection and build the junior clubs up etc. to get them in the position. he is the one that got to-o and lui into the developmet for the panthers to go on to promote them to 1st grade.

I’ve been arguing for a draft for years. But fools keep arguing that it won’t work under the current system. While ignoring that a draft gets rid of the current faulty system.

Thats actually my issue with the comp, Teams should play each other twice, for a fair comp, but they dont :/

Now Less teams will play each other twice without having to extend the season win win

But that’s football the biggest sports on the world, relegation works you got massive clubs in the lower tiers like Sunderland Portsmouth Coventry Sheffield Wednesday and United etc etc all striving for the prem you haven’t the fan base for more than 17 teams on NRL bless you take it outside Queensland and Sydney surely Perth would take off ?

@@michaelblythe6525 Last time Perth had a team they lasted three seasons and folded with 7 million Australian dollars in debt and had small crowds. Interest was big at first, their opening two home games got 20K plus but that soon died out.

@@RugbyLeagueHistory Perth was a decent team, it was the super league war that did them in. Perth is far richer and more populated now since then so there’ll be a decent supporter base. And eastern state expats in wa would finally be able to watch a nrl game.

They should of all done what Souths did and took the NRL to court.

@@The10thaccount A draft happens every year in the offseason, where every team picks new and upcoming players from around the country. The teams that come last get first picks, in the hope they slowly gain enough “good” players and get better. Whereas the top teams get the tail end picks. NFL, NBA, MLB, AFL all use the drafting process. It’s exciting for the fans too, if you’re team is terrible throughout the year, you at least have the chance of picking up one of the best young prospects in the offseason.

@@Adrenakine how would a draft really change anything? teams like the bulldogs/tigers/newcastle have a huge pool of players to choose from and they seem to just ignore them. They're heartland rugby league clubs and too afraid to give a plodder the boot

I don't think giving the Tigers a 15th home ground is the answer. Moving a Western Sydney team is the wrong move completely given the junior talent pool out there. Relocation could work but tough decisions would have to be made which is not something the NRL excel at and they care so much about "history" more so than the future.

@@Mr4thQTR I also thought about the Titans. I can't see either club become consistent league heavyweight clubs. I would say Titans probably have it worse because thr Gold Coast clubs have always struggled. Tigers at least have Balmain history to lean on.

Back in 2007 Gus said Michael Searle should be running the league. That didn't age well.
